If being diffrent hurts....

I'm not one to jump on band wagons (or at least I think I don't) but sometimes something you experience just feels right. Watch this, it would make anyone feel better about themselves no matter what social spectrum they fall into.

Never heard of these.. Wayseers before.
But it does remind me of something I've taken into heart for years and years now, and that's how I've felt about myself and my art in the past. I've been kicked down so many times by nonconstructive criticism, but I keep forcing myself up and trying to stay positive and learn from my mistakes, even if the process is sometimes very slow.

(edit, typos and clarified my intentions better :P )

sorry, I just heard a bunch of clichéd catch phrases and nonsensical juxtapositions of images and principles.
I didn't find anything particularly moving or interesting in the video.
it just sounds like the same new-age garbage that all those TV crystal-sellers and pyramid-pushers are spewing.
it certainly didn't help me feel "less different".

This video seems to be saying that the only entity possessing actual faults is the government and people in authority (e.g. the usual targets of pop videos); personal shortcomings are actually strengths, it just requires a creative re-labeling...

It's cool to learn to love yourself for your idiosyncrasies, but not to love blindly - else you can't grow as a person.

I agree with what Worba said. The video shares an awful lot of attractive ideals that people easily take in, but people should try to be rational about it and not jump into the band wagon (Just take the positive bits from it, it doesn't force you to become part of the sect even if you agree with being more positive about yourself).

which doesn't change that all I heard were clichéd new-age catch-phrases.

the part about only the government having faults?
sorry, I call bull on that one.

People have faults. Learning to overcome them is what makes you better, not trying to cover them up and calling them "qualities". That's just bull.

edit:
I'm just going to pull out of this discussion. I find it pointless. People will believe what they want to believe. We see this every day. That's what gives us things like the Westboro Baptist Church and their ilk.

Who are you responding to? My post or the video? :?

I'm not sure if it was me, but I'm sorry if anything I've said has been taken in the wrong way. :P I'm not a follower of these sects, and I remain suspicious, but I don't think Tyga meant the video as anything but as a bit of a heads up for anyone who's feeling down and not some kind of "Let's go against our goverments! They're all flawed and evil!"

Edited my original post, I think my intentions came out all wrong. And editing more typos -.-

well, you did mention the government wrong thing.
I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your comment to mean you completely agreed with the video,

Yes you misinterpreted - I said "This video seems to be saying that the only entity possessing actual faults is the government and people in authority", e.g. I was criticizing the video for doing that.

I didn't agree with the video at all.

It's perfectly okay not to enjoy or agree with the video, even to find it harmful, but let's go a little easier on the derogatory language, okay?

I found the video to be a little preachy, to tell the truth. Also, a lot of the views and opinions in it felt a little misguided and simplistic.

It did, however, remind me of a late 90s song in the same vein; Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) which, I feel, is a far superior "feel good message" sort of song.

I'm sorry Mania, I didn't notice anything derogatory in anything anyone said.

"bull" = bologna = horse-pucky = untruth

it was aimed at the message from the song, and not at anyone in this thread or on this forum.
heck, using just "bull" was even a very polite way of avoiding swearing at all. it is in common use where I live and there is nothing derogatory about it. I'm sorry if you found it such. I will avoid using it in the future.

Oh, bull is fine - I actually meant 'new-age garbage' and 'pyramid-pushers'. ;)

I suspect I share your opinions there, but after training in a Wiccan coven for a couple of years I try not to say those things around people. You never know how they're going to take it. (Derailing completely: remind me to post sometime about my friend in college who had a nightmare about me and became convinced that I had cast a black spell on her.)

And I apologize if that came out harshly; I really just meant it as a gentle suggestion, but it doesn't quite read that way now. *cocks head* Hmm.

I'm very sorry Mania.
My sister is a "guru" in some god-forsaken cult thing, and I guess I'm a tad sensitive about "new-age garbage" and "pyramid-pushers"... I've heard SO much crap spewed by these people, so much unsafe, unhealthy, lies and deceitfulness.
I've heard my sister literally tell someone with cancer that the cancer was all in their head and that they should stop immediately taking the anti-cancer drugs they were on.
there's just too much of that going around these days while people are desperately searching for alternatives to the "standard" religions which appear to be pushing people away with a renewed fanaticism and return to "traditional values".

Generally, I don't get involved in discussions about religion. But when people are selling that "you don't have any faults" they are just qualities if you "re-brand them", well, sorry, it raises my hackles.

Too much of our modern society is involved in denying our personal responsibilities and refusing to accept who we truly are, and not working at bettering ourselves.

You know what I thought after seeing this vid? "Oh neat, I kinda liked it. It's defiantly on the wonky scale but it helped me feel better after this bad day I just had. I think I'll go share this with the Petopia forums. I haven't been there in a while and I know there are a lot of creative and nice people there. It might brighten someones day too"

I have experienced first hand how crazy and harmful cults can be. I myself have been cult-free since I was 6 years old (Thanks Mom and Dad for the shitty start to life!) and I plan to stay that way. Off to the rant thread....
