Some old mammoth models that would look great in Uldum...

Something I noticed a few patches ago, around the same time the untextured winged lion appeared, there are two new mammoth mounts hidden away in the files.

EDIT: apparently these are old! Sorry.

They have a different overall shape to the Northrend mammoths, their fur is orange (and I'm not sure if it needs more texturing yet), and their tusks and the callousing on their trunks looks like stone. All in all they scream 'Uldum'. Actually, they scream 'huge new money sink!', but also 'Uldum'.

From their model names "mammothmount2" and "mammothmount5", I'm assuming they're two- and fiver-seater mounts. I could be wrong about that, but the Northrend mounts had the number of seats in their name and these look about right.

Anyway, here are some screenshots. The potential two-seater seems to be mostly done:

The potential five-seater is missing the skin for the seats on its back. It kinda looks like it's carrying a small factory of some sort:

There is only one colour so far, "mammothskinorange". Unfortunately there's no wild beast counterpart to these models, but we can hope they'll also appear in Uldum at some point. You can remove the saddle in Wowmodelviewer and it looks mostly right, except for some sharp edges around the collar where the saddle would normally be.

These look cool...and they got a hairy asian elephant vibe to me. I really don't like any of da mammoth/elephant mounts...I'd use dat 5 seated only to transport people...and even then, I've yet have a need to transport more than one person, and my motorcycle can do. Need more flying passenger mounts really.

I'm pretty sure those have been there for a long while. I remember stumbling on them back when I was making signatures. At least a year, I say.

Odd. I hadn't noticed them before there was a model update in a PTR patch, but you're right. I thought that patch introduced them, but they were already there. They're in the live files as well. Ah well, they still look like they belong in Uldum, and hopefully we'll see them.

I think I remember those being the original Northrend ones, although I could be wrong. I think the five-seater you mention last was the first datamined mammoth model found, but it was later scrapped for the newer ones.

I could be completely off, though, and I don't remember the models being that finished, either.

Yeah, those are prototypes of Northrend mammoths that were scrapped. There's concept art existing of that kind of mammoth too. Quite different than the ones we got, huh?

Yeah, I actually much prefer that to the one we got--it looks so much more noble, balanced and real. Like an actual powerful animal rather than the lumbering cartoons we have in-game

I prefer these ones as well. xD They look very calm and soft, so cool.

Can I switch mine for these? Plus get rid of the bouncing while you're at it, I'd be thrilled.

Oh neat, I don't recall seeing these models before. I really like the appearance, I agree that they seem to have a desert/Uldum style to them.

There, updated the title to reflect the age of these models. Sorry, I obviously got confused on this one!

How dare you confuse this kind of stuff Wain! Just kidding! :P
I remember seeing these a while back in WMV as well, I just figured it wasn't worth mentioning since others here already said it. XD I do think they look lovely though and it would be kind of neat if maybe one of them made it as another mount gained through Archaeology or something.

I never liked the mammoth mounts, no matter how many people they seat. Something about them just irks me; maybe it's because of how many douches used to sit on them randomly around Dal, blocking views of anything important, like questgivers. The only ones I have are only to boost my mount numbers.

I would like a Elekk available for the Horde, however.

As much as the current models are more in tune with wow ideology of their design style, I too really like the look of these over the current one we have. They really do look a lot more of a balanced and noble look to them. I've never seen these models before either, thanks for sharing, they're great. :)
