i have read on many threads concerning and using a pet abandon macro to tame some of the 'unusual' appearance buffs on some pets. i have tried this and all i end up with is no pet. what am i doing wrong because if i can get one of the glowy bears from darkshore would be nice esp since i am 85 and one shot em ><

just keep trying it until when you go to tame another pet it says something along the lines that you already have a pet summoned, something like that... then you just exit and re-enter the game and you should have it beside you or in your call pet, i dont need to do any damage to the pet for it to work

I'm not sure if they even work on the glowy bears. It's gotta be an actually box on your target buff. But I've not seen them so I don't recall if they have an actual 'buff' or not. It takes a lot of time and patience. You may be doing it at the wrong moment.

It does. I have one.
It's a buff called "Consumed" or something along those lines.

Doesnt need to be a buff, the bears in Zul'Drak with glowing feet can be tamed with the glow, same as the moths from the small outpost place for the cenarion expedition in terrokar forest where theres evil red&green moths that glow blue xD Ashtail boars as well~ lotsa pets! XD

I think the ones without an actual buff can't be stabled. With the exception of the flaming piggy. Not sure, but I think that's what the thing ws with them. Death or stables wipes the effect.

Stabling pets with the perks you snatched whether you did it the hard or easy way do seem to bug the hunter out, i had a few perk pets and i had to relog everytime i looked in the stable but they never lost the buff, it was back when Cata was just released and a hunter running around with a perked Ghostpaw Alpha directed me to this forum to learn how i get a 'fake' grimtotem spirit guide :3
I havent had a perked pet though that stayed with me long enough to see its way to the stable since a GM told me it wasnt a good idea for me to do it, theres been a lotta contreversey over snatching perk pets but most ppl are saying, so long as its appearence only, its not a concern (i have played around with some pets like the oil-stained wolf for an hour or two though)

but do the moths and bears keep the appearance buff or is it lost upon death is the question now as from personal exp the oil worg and bird and pig are not lost upon death or stabling.
only way i know this effect is lost on the bird and worg is from arenas, too chicken to try those guys in a BG yet the pig keeps flames in BG with no problem.

some of them do indeed retain the perk after death but arenas clear every buff from everything that enters it, BG's are different in that they dont clear every buff you had prior to entering. I cannot say what happens to the pets with perks that arent labeled as a buff. For pets who retain the perk when killed, it means you can merrily kill and/or be killed without risking losing your pets buff.

here... read the quote and then the clarification below it.
Pent wrote:How to tame appearance buff pets: (the following is VERY important) but you have to be at least level 18 on the hunter you want it on and have two pet slots purchased... and have no pets out or dismissed ... in other words you have NO pets on your character unless they are in the stable.
Make the "/script PetAbandon()" macro and put it someplace that you won't hit it on accident.
Step One: Position your L.18+ Hunter near the mob/beast that you want, and start taming one.
Step Two: Your hunter should just let the tame go through and let the mob/beast get tamed. When this one is tamed it will NOT have the appearance buff. You will need to DISMISS the pet... do not abandon it.
So now you will have a pet in one slot with the other slot empty.
Step Three: Then start taming the next beast (that has the same appearance buff as the one you just tamed use to have) as you did before EXCEPT you want to cram on the PetAbandon macro with 2-3 seconds left on the tame til the mob/beast is tamed and abandoned (or was it)... now go and try to tame another beast (just try to tame something) if it says you have too many pets then log out and see if you have a pet on your character select screen... then log back in and Call Pet and you should have the appearance buff pet. If it doesn't tell you you have too many pets and you start to tame the next beast just let the tame complete and abandon that pet, but do not get rid of the one pet in your other slot til you have the appearance buff pet. You will need to repeat this step as many times as it takes.
I had a little bit of trouble doing this on a realm that had low latency for me, but after I loaded up a few downloads/youtube videos my latency went up and I had no problem doing this after 2-3 tries.
Clarification: You don't have to be L.18 to tame them... you just have to be AT LEAST L.18 to do that method...
At level 18 you get the ability to purchase the second pet slot... You can do the technique I mentioned at any level passed L.18, BUT you must have at least two open slots on you (not counting stable slots at all).
Also, if you think that doing this might get you in trouble with a GM then use your own judgment. Just don't tame beasts that gives you an advantage over someone else and everything will be fine... maybe.

I've tried it with the moths and many have claimed it cant be done unless its an actual buff.

Remind them politely that most of the "pet appearance" buffs are hidden buffs! Not just the moths, but the burning boars, the blue-mist carrion bird, thistle bear, ice-paw glowy bear etc!

Oil-stained wolf took me an hour to get, cleared the pools a few times and by the time it finally told me i had successfully tamed one i ended up with 3 LOL I dont understand why it sometimes decides to do things like that but it happens :/ My undead hunter cant seem to get The Lone Hunter anymore with the hunting blade, had it once and never again
