RIP Sophie *sniff*

Ok, so my mouse Sophie was about 2-2 1/2 years old, fairly old for a mouse, and fat as heck. And terrified of heights. But those things were what made her so lovable. She was a sweet mouse, despite being rather lazy, and she made me giggle countless times. Example: "She'd be a mage: lazy, can conjure food & water, and the slowfall works out as she's scared of heights", "I have a pet black mouse, I have a pet brown mouse, I have a pet white mouse, and I have a pet Lump (aka Sophie)." Yes, her nickname was Lump. And even though I joked about her often, I truly held her in my heart.
So one day I'm checking on the mice, just sayin' hi, and Sophie is lying still and pale. I gulped. I knew what that meant.
So right now she's in the freezer in a plastic bag (so she won't rot or stink) and we're gonna bury her in the most beautiful place I know: Moss Beach.
She was my second favorite mouse (the first being Pipsqueak) and now Pirate is very depressed, rather unusual because normally mice just give their dead friends a sniff and then ignore them. Even with Ghost and Vanilla in the cage Pirate won't sleep with them, she goes in a little corner instead of in the big cozy nest like she usually does. And she won't eat. Normally Pirate loves to forage around for food that the other mice have tossed around and buried under the bedding (aka the name "Pirate" as she's searching for treasure ^_^) but lately she just sits in her corner. :( I hope she finds a new pal soon, Sophie was her big sister ever since Hyacinth died. Also, the wheel feels more empty without the WHACK WHACK WHACK at bedtime when Sophie is running on the wheel. Her butt was so big her tail went back and forth whenever she ran, slapping against the wheel's wall (one side is a wall attached to the cage bars, the other side is open). And Pirate is not helping either. I feel so sorry for both of them. Let Sophie ascend to mousie heaven where there will be endless peanut butter that will NOT stick to her fur all over making her a walking peanut butter blob. And let's hope mousie heaven isn't too high off the ground.
We love you Sophie! <3
