MY OWN CLONE! Ideas for more varied player models

Let's discuss something that I'm sure the majority can agree on: the homogeneous nature of Azeroth. Everyone looks the same. Sure, the faces and hair may vary, but everyone has the same twenty-four bodies, twelve per faction and two per race. If you're like I am, you wish that we had a bit more freedom in how our characters look. And this thread is dedicated to ideas on how that could be done (without going too crazy ^^;).

My idea is to give us two additional choices: Body Height and Body Width. There would be 3 choices for each.

For the Height choices: the current heights would be the tallest the characters could be; with the shortest being a head and a half shorter, enough of a difference without being too small; and the middle height halfway between. For the short races (Dwarves, Gnomes and Goblins), the differences would be far less, maybe a half a head difference (half-head, quarter-head, normal height) but still noticeable. Using the Human as the baseline example:

For the Width choices, they'd be a little trickier. Generally it would operate the same as Height, current size is the largest, and two sizes smaller. Something like a 20% decrease in Width between widest and middle, and 20% between middle and slimmest. For the curvaceous females, the hips and breasts would also be reduced. The slimmest women would be Pettaneko, and the largest would be Boobs of Steel with Hartman Hips. The males would go from a bit weedy to average build to the normal steroid-infused madness. For the short races, the changes would have to be less drastic, and in the case of Blood Elf bfemales the normal size could be the middle, with a somewhat thicker body for Large and an even slimmer build for Small (the differences would probably be the least drastic).

And as a final comparison, all three options used together:

(Of course, the heads wouldn't vary so much ^^; )

And with those additions, the world would become a bit more varied place. Teenagers fresh off the farm would mingle with aged veterans who've seen it all, women can look down on men (some of them, anyway XD ), and more variety would make the game feel more varied and interesting.

What'cha think, and what ideas do you have?

I know Blizzard probably won't ever do it, but I love the customization options that both City of Heroes and Rift. Even Star Wars Galaxies (which is older than WoW) had a pretty complex character customization setup. Hell, I played City of Heroes for 2-3 years, and while the game play was "meh" I enjoyed creating my characters and revamping their costumes over and over (and winning several costume contests along the way :P ).

Anyway, I like the idea of more character customization and I would love to see Blizzard update their system. I unfortunately don't see it happening until they reveal more about Titan.

I would love to see this. While I don't play anything other than WoW, I once messed around with the character creation on Conan Age of Barbarians (or whatever it's called) and that was great. Tattoos and scars and stuff.

I love this idea. Always thought it was odd in WoW for a mage to have the same muscular build as say a paladin. Mages should have the option of being more skinny/wry in build because to me it'd fit more with a scholarly type than the overly-jacked warrior build. If that makes any sense. Height options would be nice as well. Perhaps have a set range for each race and allow players to adjust these things on a sliding scale to create the toon they want, similar to the CAW (create a wrestler) options in the WWE Smackdown vs Raw console games. Could add in something along the lines of the in-game barber shops to allow players to adjust these things, like if they wanna show someone that's grown up and gone through training sorta thing on a RP realm or something.

I love it. I have always liked the customization of games like the Sims (though that is way too complex for WoW as of right now). My husband still insists that you should be able to pick "cup size" for women. haha. He used to play Star Wars Galaxies also- we both with there was more customization in WoW.

And, for the record, I wouldn't mind adding some more curves for both genders to the mix that aren't dwarves or tauren! Orcs and male Draenei are close.. but not quite there.

*giggles at the thought of a pudgy blood elf*

I would absolutely LOVE to have options for height, eye color, and even some tattoos (I mean, it's not like the tattoos don't already exist in game anyway)!

I was just thinking the same thing. Putting height and weight on a slider might be too much to change code-wise, but having a handful of body types should be easier to implement. I could see short/average/tall with the standard build, plus maybe short-and-stocky, average-but-skinny, and tall-and-muscular.
