Nerd Rage [discussion about it]

Ok it's not a discussion about 'nerd rage' so much as, items that cause it to happen. And I really have no where to talk about it and no one to talk to that will understand really and just need to get it off my chest as I don't want to blow up on a friend of mine.

Basically the movie, Avatar, is the cause.

Now, up front, I'm going to say that while I do not loathe the movie, I do not love it. At first it gained my attention in trailers, but then when I saw the one defining factor was well just the CGI but nothing else, coming from the majority of both sides of the story, that and a few other factors turned me off/away from the movie.

Now since I've not watched it I don't have that much of an opinion about it, but unlike Twilight I don't go out of my way to bash it.

I just don't want to watch it.

Now my friend, she's seen it, evidently just now or she has a second time, I'm not sure. She tells me this, via messenger, and I just come off with a meh attitude in a that's nice sort of way. Cause well I'm glad she enjoyed it. But no matter how much I tried to say, sorry I'm not interested, and as it escalated tried to show my points as to why I wasn't interested, she threw it all in my face, claiming I'm not interested in watching it because of my father [bad blood between us] and not giving it a chance etc etc, it felt like she was just saying, No you can not make informed decisions, let me make them for you.

So I nerd raged, snapped, signed off. Still unsure if she understands, and not gonna probably get a chance to talk to her a bit as evidently she's mad also, that I ran away to prevent nerd rage from developing worse :|

Again I was just using Avatar as an example but, have anyone else ever had a case of nerd rage over something you and family/friends didn't see eye to eye with?

I am using the term nerd rage, not as an insult to computer geeks, but like road rage/roid rage, it usually explodes from something small, insignifigant and stupid that you or the other party usually realize after the fact, or something upsets you, but again it's petty.

that and I find it funny to go NERD RAAAAGE in gchat hellscream wise when I'm mad about something on WoW >.>

Everyone in my family disagrees about everything. Stuff like that happen, if you can't stand being around someone you dislike, even if it's just temporary hate, I find it better to leave. Obviously you did too, and if it prevented more gaps from being formed, good. Otherwise, well... For example, both my sister and my mom insist that twilight is awesome. I anybing else contains vampires, it's a ripoff. If it was made before twilight, then twilight made it a hundred times better. /sigh. I can't stand being around noobs, and when they are at me the worst with their nagging, I shut them out from my mind. Taking a "break" is a very good strategy.

Also, I loved Avatar. I can see why you don't like it tough, it had apparent flaws.

I'm glad you understand my dislike and see I'm not really bashing the movie perse. Also my god I feel sympathy for you too >_>

And yeah I ran cause I didn't want the fight to escalate cause yeah friends have arguments and stuff but tbh I didn't want to risk blowing up at her over a stupid reason, ie a movie, and hopefully I can explain cause you know just, one of those days, and then one small thing piles up and snap over a stupid fuss fit :|

I didn't like avatar either, but I can understand if other people do. I dunno I'm not really an expert, but it might just be a little deeper than a simple case of nerdrage. Maybe she wants to spend more time with you feels you are losing touch as friends or something. I'd just give it some time and then try to explain. I don't think its possible to know someone and never disagree with them once.

It's more like a simple disagreement was getting out of hand, as I said it started out as a simple 'I like it I want you to see it' from her basically and a 'I'm sorry but i'm not interested' in it, and well escalated from there. We spend time together so it's not about that, it's just a stupid argument over a stupid movie- not the movie itself just, if it had been anything else I'd have called it stupid too.

And didn't mean for this to come off as a 'my rant only thread', I know everyone needs to vent and not everyone likes myspace/twitter/facebook/livejournal etc.

Just thought it'd be fine to make a page to vent cause sometimes talking with people who are third party helps you get things from an unbiased perspective.

Sometimes you just need a little rant >.>

I actually liked Twilight till the last book. Don't hate me. But I just hate all of the fanfare around it.

I think the books are awful, but the movies are pretty entertaining in a good way. And Taylor Lautner is sexy. A-hem.

Heh, I can understand a dislike for Avatar. I thought the CGI was good and all that, but the story... Eh, didn't catch me as much. Although most of the nerd rage I see comes from... Yes, you guessed it. Twitards. I've come across them left and right, but last year at Anime Boston... OHBOY.

You don't come into an Anime Convention yelling that Alucard from Hellsing is a ripoff of Edward, unless of course you want to provoke the wrath of over 9,000 anime fans. (Which can be just as crazy as Twitards, though I still think Twitards are worse.) Oh the humanity. XD Yet it was hilarious!

-pats- It's okay Veph. :< They got thrown out for 'attempting to cause a riot' and hell they almost did. XD

I would've been in that riot. Cause Alucard is just that sexy for an animated man...

I need to get around to finishing Hellsing Ultimate... My favorite manga series, by far.

Real vampires are sexy.

Twilight teaches horrible lessons to young women.

Yep. Twilight is one of the most horrible things mankind has ever inflicted upon itself.
"I want vampire babies that'll break my spine! That's beautiful!"
"I wish my husband Edgar was more like Edward!"
"I'm nine years old and setting myself up for disappointment!"

As for the 'nerd rage/road rage' thing, I'd honestly say that's actually pretty common. Or at least, judging on the number of people that come to me for advice and tell a story of this sort. Usually people are just stressed, or stubborn, or being pushed too far, and that tension explodes in a totally different fashion--over something stupid, like movies or whose turn it is to do the dishes or whatever. What else do they call them? Kitchen-sink fights?

As for Avatar, I thought the movie was stunning--until I thought about it an hour or two after getting out. The film itself is very engaging and really pulls you in, and will envelop your senses. CGI wise, it is fantastic, a masterpiece. But all the visuals tend to overwhelm you, and you don't even think about the story until you're out of the movie and realize, holy crap, all I did was watch Pocahontas or Dances with Wolves...alien style. How was THAT original?

As for Twilight...it needs to go burn. Srsly. I would LOVE to introduce a Krusnik (Trinity Blood ) into the Twi-verse just to see these supposedly all-powerful vampires find themselves no longer at the top of the foodchain. VAMPIRES ARE DELICIOUS.

Let's not forget one of the all-time classics, one of the best movies I've probably ever seen, and talking about it makes me want to go watch it again. The sequel was ok, but the original is just bomb. <3

(Oh and I loved Avatar. Whether or not it was original is beside the point to me. If I enjoy a movie, I enjoy it, regardless. I think it was fantastic and I've seen it three times now, and will go see it again soon I'm sure)

I really loved Avatar. :D

I knew that the plot was far from revolutionary, but never during the course of watching the movie did that matter to me. Sure, it's been done before....but so what? I personally love the story and think they did a fantastic job with it. I think it delivers some important messages and overall it was just stunning. The plot and the visuals complemented each other beautifully, and even after having seen it 3 times I still find myself at the edge of my seat during the action scenes.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially having grown up with a lot of the movies and shows about nature (Fern Gully, Captain Planet...seriously, the 80s were great for giving that pro-earth message to kids, and I think a lot of that's lost these days).

Veph sums up my feeling about Avatar quite nicely, even though I haven't gone to see it three times. Movies so expensive... D:
Only reason I didn't like the movie more was because I didn't get firmly attacted to any of the characters. That's what does it for me. I need an absolute favorite for any movie to become the BESTMOVIEEVAR type thing.

I even had a prejudice against the movie going in too.
It stole the name of the Airbender movie! >:O <--THAT is nerd rage.
But sadly, I'm not expecting much from the Airbender movie anymore either. Damn you Shamalan! Damn you! T-T

I'm very skeptical, too, but at least Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have their hands in it, which gives me hope that it won't go too far astray.

And also, I agree with everything Veph said. :D

Are you telling me that there really is an anime or manga with a vampire named Alucard?
And people actually like it?!?

Oh gawd, pleeze... No, no friggin' way! This can't be true...

I may repeat myself but...
Downfall of the occident!
Mark my words...
