Why did they even bother changing it to Core Hound from Dragonkin if it wasn't going to be tameable.

Maybe you'll get lucky in the future?

I believe this is how many other "newer" tames went - changed family class a patch or two before they became tameable.

If you want a Drakeadon just get Chromaggus.

Are they the same color as Chromy? (Because I can just hear people winding up to complain if they have the same skin...)

Yeah they're the same model as Chromaggus.

I have Chromy but I can't help but wonder if despite meleeing for 80k and doing other nasty things, whether they would be just as easy to tame if they were tameable, because of that nice 2-tier stairwell you can use for a kite path.

Then again, it might make killing trash too easy... "kill the big guy, let the hunters tame the dogs"

Why? For consistency and theme. It made no sense that one was a core hound and the rest still dragonkin. I pointed this one out to Noah in a post with a bunch of other wrongly classified things. If so, the "Memory of Chromaggus" in ToC5 should also no longer be a dragonkin.

Being in current xpac raid content makes them less likely to be tameable. Maybe by the next expansion they'll be tameable and nobody will care too much.

As a hunter with Chromaggus, I'd be okay with these guys being tameable. xD
Considering they hit hard, come with a bunch of other trash, and you have to kill two bosses (who are currently relevant) to get to them, I think it's be just as much of a challenge, if not more, to get one as it would be to get Chromaggus. (who hits like a kitten, has no trash that comes with him, and has bosses before him that can be easily steamrolled through (minus Razorgore))

Razorgore is the big stumbling block of BWL. Not only do you have to have one person with you at least, but they have to know how the fight works AND what to do when it all goes pear shaped (which it does most of the time).

Everything else in that instance is cake.
