LOL! That happened to me once with Deathwing, after the punching Deathwing in the face quest... I wish so much I would have gotten a screenshot!

It's a bug with the Call Pet spell - whenever you have something that follows you around for a quest, the npc somehow gets his own Call Pet, even though it doesn't actually work. As far as I know you also need to have an empty pet slot for it to happen, and it probably doesn't happen every time. I remember encountering this (rather amusing) bug on the Beta a lot, but to be honest haven't been paying any attention to it reoccurring lately. <.<
