So, heres the thing. I think doing the most dps I am able it important, for the most part. However, I really CAN'T stand any model or skin for wolves.

So, Petopia forum, whats the next best thing to a wolf?

I've seen a lot of hunters using cats. I personnaly love cats, but yeah...My volf gives me a boost of AP, wich is good for raiding. I've seen hunters with raptors also... *shrugs* Most hunters on my realm use Wolves for raiding.

Yeah, nearly every raider I see uses the wolf for the AP bonus, but I hate using them.

If you're not BM, I'd say cat or raptor would be the next best thing. You could even use a wasp if you don't have a feral druid in the raid. However, I don't raid with my hunter (and haven't raided on any character in a few months) so I can't say from experience, that's just my thoughts.

I'm MM and I did hear raptors were good, so I'll consider that. Maybe a kitty.

Well, this page goes into pets a bit... http://elitistjerks.com/f74/t52682-raid ... _3_beyond/

But adding to it, just about any Ferocity pet can make a GOOD dps pet... abilities or not, each pet in this tree is within 20-50 dps or so of another for overall Pet + Hunter DPS. But there are also a few Cunning pets that can make great dps pets too. Serpents, the DoT is nice. Wind Serpents, Lightning Breath is a powerful attack. Chimaeras(BM) Bit hight than Wind Serpents.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the wolf models either (Skoll is an exception, he is a Spirit Beast not a wolf :P ) but I researched on Petopia and found one that I could tolerate, when I dualspecced to BM/MM. I wanted the best pet to compliment the MM spec. I didn't expect to like it much, since the wolf's lower tusks bother me greatly, but I'll sum it up by saying: MM spec is gone but the wolf is still with me.

I don't use her very much, but I like the Outland wolf models better than original game because they're bigger and less scrawny.

You can always try one out and see if you like it, give it up if you don't.

Raptors and Cats are both good for DPS. I used a Winterspring Pride Watcher for a long time, before I had to make stable room for the Spirit Beast.

Hmm, those winterspring cats are nice. For now I'll use my pink Tallstrider.

When I actually do Raid with my Hunter, I tend to use Caliban (He's the Winterspring Pride Watcher.) OUt of all of the pets in my stable, he's the highest in DPS at lvl 80. I agree with you. As much as I am a wolf person in RL, I just can't seem to dig the wolves in WoW.

Thats me exactly. I love wolves irl and used to love them back in TBC, but now since its been so influenced that wolves are the only good dps pets, I lost all interest in having one in WoW.

One thing I've found that keeps me able to use a wolf, (and a cat back when they was 'teh 1337') Is I use one of the most non-existent skins possible... So, when wolves were first becoming big, instead of nabbing one of the god-awful starved worgs or a BH, I grabbed an armored worg. Then, after a few weeks, a ton of people had that skin, so I released him and got Ironjaw, the only bicolored wolf in-game, had him for a few weeks, same thing happened to my surprise, so the next one i chose was a Plagued Wolf, and i haven't seen anyone else with one on my server... So yeah, I try to keep my pets Unique, that helps me from 'joining the mob' a bit, b/c most of the time they just have an unnamed Starved Worg that they don't even care about except FH nowadays....

Personally I'd reccomend Raptors for ferocity pets if your a non BM hunter. They come in alot of different character models and have a decent family ability. I don't like cats because
1. They're over used
2. Prowl gets annoying when your pets casts it when you don't want it to
3. Their family ability got nerfed big time

If your a BM hunter, I'd reccomend either Devilsaurs, Core Hounds, or if you can get one, a Spirit Beast. All of them have good special abilites and are not to common. Now which one of those you pick is up to you. I tend to think Core Hounds are a bit better at PvP, but Devilsaurs are stronger in PvE or raids. Spirit beasts are good at both, but they are harder to get and prowl gets annoying. But these three also share one big disadvantage. 2/5 time you walk into a city, some newbies going to continually ask you where you got it. I once walked in Org and some lvl 10 continually followed me around, begging me to give him my pet....

Sadly, that happened to me, and thus I cant stand wolf models.
I first used the demon dog from Zul Drak when no one had it on my server. Next thing I know, everyone's running around with it. Then I get an armoured worg, seeing as I had never found anyone else with it.
Everyone has it now.

I am a raiding MM hunter and hate wolves as much as other people in that forum do.
in last time i am thinking always more often of a cunning pet for raiding, everytime i see my wolf i have to hold back to don´t abandon him.
I am thinking about using a cunning pet, they dish out ok damage and also have good supporting abilities like roar of recovery.

so far i tested:
Serpents
Carrion Birds
Raptors
Cats

Of course, the 3 ferocity pets dished out the most dmg, but the supportive aspect of cunning pets are very nice too ( roar of recovery) especially at longer boss encounters.
i think it depends on your playing style and even if i am raiding, this game should be fun, not about having highest DPS

I tend to swap between BM and Surv when I'm raiding with my guild, cause they actually like certain pets. Like in TotC, during the fight with the Horde/Ally group, I go BM and yank out my Core Hound cause of his slow casting lava breath that pretty much stays on the enemy 100% of the time, plus I like that lil bit of interrupt from Intimidation. When I'm Surv spec, I'm either using my cat or wasp. Usually cat, cause I have the red wasp from Sholazar and he's freakin huge from some reason and it annoys the group sometimes lol.

Wasps and Raptors are solid choices. Wasps especially if you do not have a Druid applying Faerie Fire. If you do have a Druid doing that, go with the Raptor. Then goes Cat, Moth, Tallstrider and Hyaena (last two are pretty much equal, but the Tallstrider's Dustcloud may provide some nice utility).

As for Wolf skins, the original ones are the best, and I use the barking one from Mulgore. He's bland looking but he barks when clicked on which is awesome :)
I like the white one (like the Ghostpaws from Ashenvale) and the greyish-purple ones (like in Tirisfal).

Aww lucky you with ghost wolf...seen a few on my server with that see through ghostly wolf of ghostly goodness.

You know I saw a few posts on the hunter forums mentioning a cunning pet to raid with, i.e.
http://www.wow-petopia.com/html/familie ... rpent.html

I got the least used, Murk Spitter; & I forget if it was really good or not, guess I'll have to try it out.

You mentioned PvE BM to go for Devilsaur or Spirit Beast; is the dps difference in these two about equal? I recall seeing that Devilsaurs' were better at single target, I guess both would be about the same 'shrug'.

I've got a Diseased Wolf, but have used:
Shy-Rotam, though seeing several folks with Gondria, considering getting a Frostsaber Pride Watcher, & naming em Cheshire hehe

Now if blizzard would remove the color change from the Drakuru Raptor I'd definitely have one of those.

Well for BM, with the gear I have (what I plugged into Female Dwarf) It goes Devilsaur>Raptor>Spirit Beast> Wolf

Spirit Beasts are unfortunately not great DPS. For BM Wolf is still tops but Devilsaur is a very close second and the rest of the "heirarchy" is about the same.

As for raiding with a Cunning pet, they are really very sub-optimal. Some Hunters keep a Wind Serpent on hand for the Blood Prince Council fight and use their pet to juggle the Kinetic Bombs as the ranged attack helps here, but it's certainly not used for the DPS.

I've tried using my Spider in the Faction Champions fight in TOC but the Web ability is on too long a CD for it to be valuable as compared to the AP boost that Furious Howl gives, which contributes a lot more to the fast burn on the healers than Web does for crowd control.
