I guess this is some sort of reference? What does that thing (what is it!?) have to do with our pet developer?

It's like the Bat Signal, only it's an Ark because it's for Noah. ;)

A box? A thing you store synagogue thingies in? The thing Indy went after in the first movie? Wikipedia seems to have failed me, as none of those make sense. Except maybe the Indiana Jones one.

Either way, this "joke" belongs in a museum. Because I don't find it funny. :/

Did you click "Bat Signal" in the other post? ;)

I know what a bat signal is. -.-

This doesn't make any sense. SO.
Light up the bat-signal to get Noah to go after an item featured in the first Indiana Jones movie? Right...

If you're referring to the ark, it's the large ship used by Noah to carry all the animals in. x)

Not that kind of ark! It's Noah's Ark, as in a really big boat for pairs of all species of animals. :) That's why Noah is Noah. :D Because thanks to him, we have all sorts of rescued species of animals. :)

It's a dual reference to the bat signal (from Batman) and Noah (who is so named from the Bible verse of Noah's Ark).

Edit: Kalli beat me to it. XD

Oh. I thought he was named Noah because it was a nickname or something.

Still, that's a boring joke, and religiously prejudiced. -.-

LOl Kalli thats cute!

And Saturo.. if you dont find it amusing or religiously "prejudiced" which really I dont get how.... please refrain from posting. Just because you dont like it doesnt mean the rest of us dont. Its running joke on the ptr thats all.

And having to explain a joke will always kill a joke no matter what

Really? It's about as prejudiced as nicknaming someone after something in Greco-Roman mythology; it's a story that stems from a religion, and has gained some cultural significance outside of its original context. For example, if I use terms like 'David vs. Goliath' and 'Trojan horse', there's a cultural significance attached that exists outside of a religious context. Just because Christianity isn't dead doesn't mean that referring to Judeo-Christian stories, fables, and tall tales is promoting a religion anymore than referring to Greco-Roman mythology.

(takes a deep breath...)

Really, are you guys really jumping on Saturo because she didn't know/ like the reference?
And then you are telling her to go away and not post anything about stuff she disagrees with?

Wow. Just... Wow. :o

If I hear a bad joke I tell the person telling it. It is our right to disagree about stuff, and since "we" have the freedom of expression, "we" don't have to shut up and let you have your fun. "We" get to say our opinion.

She didn't insult anyone, she just shared her opinion.

So relax guys.
And take it in stride.

There is one last thing, the story of Noah let alone David and Goliath do not have any real cultural basis separate from Christianity which of course is the religion of the majority of the people in the US. I know of no such tale, story or cultural reference that speaks to them that is not religious.
I remember in WWII a Japanese general called us a "sleeping giant" but it is very doubtful they were referring to anything "biblical."
The US is a secular democracy, the story of Noah has the same cultural value to the country as a whole as the story of Thor, Spider Man, or Little Foot. Asserting otherwise is unfounded and foolish.
Noah, David and Goliath and any other biblical references are strictly that, religious, and to assert that it is not is blatantly wrong.

Disagreements happen.
Some people find some jokes not funny or offensive.

Should they be quiet and go away?
No. They can share their opinion just like everyone else.

If you can't handle descenting opinions, it is you, not them, who has the problem.

I am sorry if you don't like my opinion, but I can and will share it.
Just as you have a right to share your own.
You may not like it, but you do have to respect it.

So now that I have said my piece, I shalt retire. Good day and good hunting.

No not jumping on Saturo at all, I understand if she may not have got the joke. What I am saying is her comments was uncalled for really thats all. Some opinions dont have to be expressed in that way.

This is a running joke on the ptr cause we have yet to find the spiders on the US server so it was called for Noahs signal to make to it spawn
We are all pretty bored sitting waiting for a spawn so we keep each other amused that way thats all ^.^

Actually, the story of Noah's Ark isn't just Christian/Jewish. Both it and the flood are mentioned in Gilgamesh under different names. Gilgamesh is the first story ever written and was written before either religion had any sort of stronghold. There has also been archaeological evidence for a great flood.

Just so you know.(:

Last thing I will say on this off-topic tangent:

Turgus, my point was that the nickname of Noah was given because it is a relatively well-known reference within our culture that those outside of Judaism and Christianity may know of (I bet everyone here has heard of 'Christmas'). And yes, these stories are seen outside of a religious context. Viewing Noah as a saver of animals isn't really a religious view; viewing Noah as a devout and faithful follower of God is a religious view. Which way is this developer who's been nicknamed Noah being viewed?

The way that indicates "savior of the wee animals!"

;)
