I went into a gamestop a few weeks back and one of the know-it-all gamer guys I've come to respect let slip that Gamestop would be giving out special mount coupons for those who order specifically from them. Some kinda mount that goes with "cataclysm" really well. I've not known him to fib, but then it might have been a cute little ploy to get avid wow players to secure their pre-order with Gamestop by him slipping some prime inside info. I've heard nothing official, but I can deduce some things...

pros
- Some of the newer games have had special "store related coupons" with certain pre-orders that gave you some upgraded armor or special items in a game.
- Game stores have been "buying" the creation of these special items from game companies for lots of money, there's a lot of incentive for Game Dev Companies.
- WoW is, if anything, a game with room to indefinitely fill with extra items (ashethic stuff, not game breaking)
- If Game Co. XYZ decided to "buy" the creation of a blue phoenix (for example) and give all their pre-ordering fans this mount... Who would pre-order anywhere else?

cons
- I could just not believe him cause its never been done before.
- I could not believe him cause I see no shred of advertisement, leak or anything on the internet about this. No evidence. /shrug.

Not sure what I believe on the matter, but I'm generally a skeptic till I see it advertised openly. Has anyone here heard anything on the matter? What do you guys think? We know most people playing now are going to pre-order the next expansion. Would a cool mount or a cool in-game item make you choose where you got your pre-order of Cata?

I'll also remain skeptical of this, however if it turned out to be true I would totally buy from Game Stop just to get that special mount. >.> Specific stores don't mean much to me anyways, I just go to the closest/cheapest one for convenience. A mount would definitely influence me to buy from them.

I don't see how they would negotiate that kind of perk with Blizzard though. What about places that may not have a Game Stop? What about other franchises not having any special coupon to give away? I'm highly doubtful of it overall, but still...for the sake of argument, it would sway me.

I can see this being true, but I wouldn't pre-order until there is something official about it from Blizzard.

If there was a special pre-order item, I may do it through them, but only if certain things happened.
First, it would need to be confirmed by Blizzard.
Second, Gamestop would need to have the CE.
Third, I would need to be able to pre-order the CE into Canada. I don't have a local Gamestop, so I'd need to get it online, and the Canadian versions of game stores are notoriously bad for not getting everything in stock that their American bases do.

Otherwise, I'll be camping out in front of Best Buy/Future Shop the night before release again. First in line FTW!

I would honestly love a limited Cata related mount. Though as you've said.. it's never been done before and so I'm also skeptical until we see something official.

This is a preview for Darksiders... Check it out at the end of the video, the pre-orders get a special in-game weapon... exclusive to gamestop... There's also "gamestop exclusive limited editions" of games like bioshock 2.

If this is becoming a trend for Gamestop its friggin smart marketting. AND, if they are smart enough to do it, there's no telling how much it may escalate... What happens when everyone cancels their preorders with Best Buy or Amazon... or Walmart. I'll bet those distributers could toss a wad of cash for an exclusive item to pull people away from gamestop. lol I could so see Amazon giving a coupon for a "mini-thrall" pet or a pink spectral tiger mount...

By the by, have they tied all of those nifty new mounts found in the game files to where they are supposed to be found in game?

I don't like the idea of limited time mounts. I have the spectral tiger and its great, but in a way it sucks. Other people realllly want it and ask all the time how to get it. I hate that some people will never be able to get it and not having a black bug mount or a huge amani bear I dislike the frustration of it all.

On a side note I love Darksiders!! And if you didn't get it from gamestop you can still get the weapon the code is found easily for free online

Wouldnt they put the exclusive mount in the Collectors editon? like they did with frosty Etc that would make more sence. Would suck for peeple like me who dont live in the Usa

I'm not gonna believe it until Blizzard confirms it. To be honest this just reeks of the bleeding scams I've been getting since the leak of Cataclysm.

IE Blizzemeraldgm whispers: Blizzard is going to be releasing new mount blah blah blah go to [keylogger.com] to get yours!!!!!!

This makes sense to me, too.

It would be a nice change for the Collector's Edition freebie to be a mount rather than yet another vanity pet. Age of Conan (R.I.Pieces ) featured a rhino mount when released, and Blizz does tend to take notice of what sells.

Seconded. A change up in from a whelp to a mount in the Collector's Edition would be a welcome thing.

But if Blizz decides to do it as a pre-order reward, if its true, I hope its not just for Gamestop.

You know, stranger things have happened. With the "mount-splosion" we've seen in wow over the past couple years, they may indeed be moving towards mounts over pets for the CE, but I don't have any information on that at all. And, I'm pretty sure the CE contents will be listed officially on MMO-Champ before too long, so we'll have that answer soon. To be honest, at this point you should pretty well know if you want to get the CE. If you think about it too long, they'll all disappear (like blizzcon tickets last year lol - Release-Login-Lag-Reload-Soldout)

I certainly don't mean to lead anyone the wrong way (scams and whatnot). Scrutinize anything you hear about and never give out your information or click on random links that may lead to keyloggers. If you DO happen to hear any tidbits about Cata stuff from anyone (like store employees), pass it along here.

There was a guy in a store that said we'd be getting chicken mounts. But he also said CS:S had a singleplayer mode... Either way, that chicken is already in, as a noblegarden thing.

isnt the chicken mount a TCG mount? im sure it is.

oh ok i got mixed up oops. I wouldnt mind some new mounts 104 is just not enuff
