Alright guys, I need your help. I've been arguing with my S/O way too long on this. We got talking about Mythbusters explosions and the topic will not die. The big question is: are the explosives measured in force or in physical weight? I say that if they said "800 pounds of explosives" that it has that amount of blasting power. My S/O says it is the weight. I'm hoping someone with a science background can help me out. Also, feel free to rave about Mythbusters/explosions/Jamie's mustache.

I'm pretty sure it's the force of the explosion they're talking about. Unless they specifically say it's the physical amount of explosive substance.

There are bombs that are called "mega-ton" bombs.

It actually is a comparison to the force of Trinitrotoluol (TNT). It's pretty complicated as it has to do with temperature, air pressure and other stuff.
So when they say, they found an 800 pound bomb, they actually mean: "We've found a bomb that would have had the same destructive force as 800 pounds of TNT would have had."

At least, that's what I understood from that wikipedia article.
