Grunter woes

I have been trying for about 3 months to get Grunter even camping out waiting for the realm maintenances to happen then hovering in the area for long periods of time. I've been playing this version (I say that because I started playing WoW WAY back in the day when they were tiny little characters, fog of war, build your own buildings blah blah blah) for four years or more I think and I have yet to encounter Grunter 'in the wild' and have only seen him four or five times as someones pet.
Why in all the world (of warcraft) is this little piggy so stinking hard to find /get?????
Why torture us??
Is it that someone just forgets to put him in there and goes "ooopppss"??
If they're going to 'retire' him they should just do it.
I've heard he's got a 32-48 hour respawn time if not longer, if he appears at all. Am I the only one on the Argent Dawn server that cannot get this guy????
I think I'm just going to throw in the towel and go tame a warp stalker.

I've heard a lot of terrible stories regarding Grunter's apparent stealthing abilities and extended vacations. He has not being retired, he definitely exists, but I know he's a pain in the butt to camp for.
Do you mind me asking what the reason you're after him specifically for? Just curious if you want that accomplishment for getting a hard-to-find piggy, or if it's due to his high level, etc.

A couple of years ago, I too camped Grunter. For approximately three weeks, I checked for him when I logged in after work, and then before I logged off for the night. Finally, I started killing all of the pigs and waiting for a respawn, and lo, one night that actually worked... Grunter was among the pigs that spawned after I killed everything.
At that time, he was the highest level black pig, so there was good reason to camp him. Since pets "age" to within five levels of your level now, I wouldn't go thru that again (Unless you're really into the hunt)... I'd get another pig with the same skin.

Sorry to revive this so to speak. Been really sick since Thursday.
I do a lot of Dungeon runs so a pig would be a excellent pet because of it's armor. Plus he's been the only oinker (that I've seen of) in that skin within my reach. I just got the Northrend expansion but alas I'm still to little for that area and have only seen hellboards in the Outlands. Not to mention unless I let go of my new Warp Stalker I'm out of room.
Maybe some day I'll 'stumble' upon Grunter and get extremely lucky. But as of now he remains VERY elusive.

Since they got rid of the "Elite Tag" on pets.. You can have the same black skin from a number of areas and they will work the same

Didn't want to make a new thread just to ask a question, so, first zedxrgal did you ever get your grunter & if so where?
I am asking because of location, wowhead lists grunter as various places: near the cross-road, mainly south east-ish, completely west of netherguard on the cliff side, though I've never seen any boars there, & finally around serpent's coil mainly: south of netherguard keep, & east where all the shadowsworn are at, I've circled that whole hillside with not a snort nor a squack of any animals near the shadowsworn.
Thottbott lists two 'dot' locations:
-south east of the cross roads
-south of netherguard
Both times I found my Grunters on my other hunts was south of Netherguard... so I am asking if anyone can validate any of these other locations?
Edit: I hope he spawns south of netherguard cause with those elemental portals spawning... around the cross-roads, fear he may get turned into pork chops during my off n' on sleeping

I tamed Grunter after about a few days a couple of weeks ago but it was just by luck. I left my hunter there and scanned the area then I'd do some BG's or log onto my Dk for a bit. Then I was getting ready to log off for the evening and I decided to check once more and he happened to be there.
While I was around there was a decent flow of peeps there lvling and killing everything around so I think you will get it but its a pain with all the traffic in the area.
Good Luck and I can understand your frustration..

I looked at the spawn map on wowhead. The spawn points are pretty close together. When I got him he was south of the keep near the road. This was one of the points wowhead identified.
http://www.wowhead.com/npc=8303/grunter I got him around 56 31 Hope this helps.. I never went up near the keep in the north.

It's lovely one of his spawns is right where the elemental rift spawns every hour ... argh 'shakes fist of doom' two days later & no porker, rawr! Think I might give up on this one... so frustrated

Knowing my luck he got turned into pork chops by those darn elementals in my sleep...
With server restart 5am yesterday I'm not sure when he'll be up, but hopefully it'll be near netherguard.

His new skin is also identical to one in game, Domesticated Felboar, I do believe.

I tamed Grunter after I believe 32 hours or something crazy like that and it was at the crossroad area but to the east I guess you could say.

Where the white circle is, that's where he spawned for me.
I ended up releasing him however when all the hellboars were made tamable. For me, back then, he spawned at 3:10 am server time and I had him tamed by 3:11 server time. I checked my SS's /logs.
Good luck.

I went camping for Grunter today after work. Did not see him but I did get Ravager (rare Hyena that made up for me losing my scarlet tracking hound) and Spiteflayer (unique skin come Cat) all within 30 min of each other.
Grunter seems to be a pain in the arse to find. I do love his new skin (come catalysm) so i'll probably end up taming a tamed hellboar instead.
