guide to finding and taming

I have been asked many of times, in game and on forums, why I have so many rares as pets on my hunter. Also been questioned my [Frostbitten] achivement after getting it complete three times now. So I would love to share the information I know and go off and how I go about finding rares.
First off;
Finding your rare eilte:
There are many ways to help you find a rare eilte you can use the two addons NPCscan and NPCoverlay both are very nice, if you cant download these addons there is the old /tar marco and wowhead.com-ing the npc and looking at hhis/her map from there. But even if you do this NEVER just stay in one place for the following reasons;
1. Rares normally have two or more spawn points, so while your sitting there waiting it could spawn somewhere else and well you miss it.
2. You can draw attention to yourself, either from the same faction or the oppsite. I have seen many people waiting on a mob to be ganked or in general 'OMG I just killed [mobs name]!!1!111' taunts and killing can be a bother to some people.
3. You waste alot of time just doing nothing. Sitting still = nothing done really

Three simple enough reasons don't ya' think?
How to find the mob is easy enough and I personally go off the ' one rare in one area' idea. So plan your flight path you will take of the area, making sure it covers all the rare eiltes in that area, why you ask? Simple you cant have your mob spawn until another one is gone this way you still cover the rare you want and then some (and since all rares drop something nice this would equal just that little bit more gold in your pocket.) If you use NPCscan you will not have to bother with /tar marcos the addon should do it for you if you clear your catche file every time you log and avoid using a rare pet, if not make a /tar marco with all the rares names in it and don't miss anything! If you use this method you will set timers off faster like for example: in Zul Drake a rare spawns every 5 hours after death/despawn. A made up example but you understand why killing off the unwanted rares is useful. Another note to add, don't expect to get them fast you won't be the only person out there looking there are two factions fighting remeber.
Once you found the rare:
Ok yes above level 20 you have your trap but thats not the only way you can always ask for help, as most rares don't like traps that much and can break free. Paladins, Shamans, Priests, Mages, Druids and other Hunters can help you tame.
Paladins can stun and bubble, more arggo for you.
Shamans tremor totem and bloodlust, can't be feared and casting speed increase.
Priests fear ward means bye bye fear, also they can heal without taking to much arggo due to fade.
Druids can place a target to sleep.
Mages can turn them into sheeps.
If you don't have access to these classes you can always use the tame trick, in which you pop your CD's to tame faster (only works in BM.) Still not fast enough for you? Gem yourself with haste but hopefully not on your raiding set or PvP set.

Things to remeber:
1. I told you this was just going to be a little post.
2. If its tameable and you don't want it doesdid itn't mean there not someone out there looking for it, always help others it polite and kind.
3. Never stand still!
4. Always make sure you don't kill a mob someone is trying to tame, most have gone though that I don't see why you think you can do it to.
5. It's nice to have a gather prof since youll be flying around there will be alot of skinning, minning and herbing to do :o don't waste a chance.
6. Have a hunting buddy , or maybe a vent to talk to people many hours doing nothing and seeing teh same places can be a pit bothering so trying keep distracted enough so you wont get that bored.
7. Last but not least HAVE FUN!

Thank you for reading this and I hoped this helped someone I will edit more information and you can give your ideas and views to the most helpful ones I will edit here and give you full credit for the help.
also I am sorry if the banner makes this bigger then your screen I did it based of the size of the forum from my coputers point of veiw

Also another addon for finding rares is Silverdragon. It pops a target id on my screen when I pass through an area a rare has spawned in.

I'm having some trouble finding the ID# for Death Howl. My NPC scan does not have it and I cant find it anywhere. Does anyone have it?

I would love a post with all the ID#s- it might be here in the forums already but since I'm new to this forum I didn't see it. If so, please guide me in the right direction.

Thank you all!!

Nice guide, and adorable pic up top :D

One thing--if you're just checking spawnpoints now and then, of course move. But I quite disagree with the "don't stand still"--as will quite a few rare campers; I think it's a matter of opinion. If it's something with multiple spawn points, with multiple hunters camping (rare hunters or WoW hunters), having someone at each spawnpoint is probably best. If you're moving from place to place, it might spawn just behind you, or spawn somewhere that's already being camped; you might find that if you're circling, all spawnpoints will wind up camped, and you have 0 chance at getting it.

If the zone is empty then by all means circle the spawnpoints, but if there's heavy camping going on, I strongly recommend picking a spot and sticking to it!

Love the layout, and love the picture. <3

If I'm hunting a rare with one spawn point, I tend just to park and go off and do something else, read, crochet, watch TV, do uni work, whatever! NPCScan has an option where it'll unmute game music to give you the signal, which is incredibly handy since I usually play with the sound off and have my own music playing on top. =)

These are all basic things we know as hunters, but it's nice to have for the newbies. =3 I say, well done!

TLPDResource.com has a screenshot of Vyragosa flying overhead of someone fighting Dirkee, I believe...so I'm not real sure about 'one rare per area.'

WAIT. WAIT. WAIT.

HOLD BLOODY EVERYTHING.

You're kairii? Really? Why does nobody tell me these things? And I was all, "Huh. Their art styles are remarkably similar."

...People need to let me know when people change their names...Or you'll have a sad Azu-kitty on your hands.
