So I had another hunter yell at me.....

First off I understand where this particular hunter is coming from.

"So I've seen you around the zone a lot and since no one has said anything obviously let me give you some hunter tips."

Pause for a second. I have had my hunter for 2 years or so. I take great pride in knowing the ins and outs of all the characters I play. I do pretty darn good damage, I know some of the more fun thing like the disengage jumping and such. I am confident enough in myself that I can give out info if so needed. The short of it, I don't need tips.

Continue.

Basically they launched out this paragraph to me about running around with Magria in Hyjal and Molten Front. Setting off every hunters NPC scan and this hunter in particulars targeting macro. Saying that I was upsetting a lot of hunters. (Which was interesting since I happen to know most of the good hunters on this server) I named it Magria. I like the name. I did not intentionally do it to upset anyone or grief any hunters. I run BM and it just happens to be my pet of choice so it's almost always out.

Long story short this person who I never heard of before jumps on me about this one thing and calls it a tip. "I shouldn't run around with it out and I should never ever ever ever name it the same name." He actually said never ever ever ever....

I hadnt even thought of it being an issue and I would be more than happy to change things around IF he hadn't immediately told me what I should and shouldn't do without actually talking to me first.

I just laugh about it. While I understand what he says, rude way to go about it.

lol

If that happened to me?...

1) hearth back to Org
2) Get Banthy and Anhk out of stable.
3) Parade around the temple, asking in /1 if I'm doing it right...

When someone tells me something like this, I usually reply that I'm doing it on purpose to cache those mobs for the other classes that are looking to kill them before a hunter can tame them. Normally they understand that, though some still get pissed off. Can't please everyone. :|

Annoys me because like every single hunter that tames a rare pet on my server names it the same name pre-tame and then I see it on pet tracking and I run up and it's a hunter pet. I mean there must be 10 dethtilacs on my server and like 9 skitterflames/kirix/ ankha's. It just bugs me because then I have to go reset my cache so my npcscan will go off when I see the pet I want :(. Also IMO it shows a lack of creativity when people name their pets the same name they had before, but I understand some people just do that so

Name it the same name if you want, but running with a rare pet near the rare pet's spawnpoints where there are likely hunters still camping is considered rude.

If he was polite about it, then yeah, he was giving you a tip. The people who keep doing it to me--parading their show pets around while I'm camping--I really get infuriated with. It's nothing to do with elitism and everything to do with being respectful to other hunters.

When I have 24 other partners that I cherish, I personally do not see the point of giving fellow hunters a surge of false hope and a tripped cache as they pull the same long camp I had to. Especially in Hyjal, right now, when there are so many hopefuls. We don't need the NPCScan warning anymore. They do. But I suppose it takes wearing the shoes for some hunters to understand that.

Nor do I see how that makes them an "elitist huntard". This person was definitely brusque, yes, but look at Hyjal. If you were still hoping to hear that alert go off after sitting for hours, then find it's a hunter pet, you'd likely be a bit put out yourself. Especially if you missed a spawn during a cache clean.

This patch has made too many people an alternating nightmare of griefing and absurd vanity. My Banthalos will be joining me in the Molten Front, but I will not be adding to the mess in Hyjal itself.

Yeah, pretty much this. It sounds like the OP was being rude. I had someone yanking out their magria every so often while we waited for Ankha. It was worst when a flagged horde did it.

I know people get excited about their pets- I wanna use my guys for the dailies! But I stick to using the spiders outside and spirit beasts inside if I don't use an older pet. I already feel kinda guilty that the spiders set stuff off outside. :( But I just want to use my guys somewhere.

I can see a 'rude hunter', or 'a frustrated hunter who is tired of someone standing near the spawn point with their pet named the same as the rare spawn' hunter. But elitist? Dunno about that.

Like I said. I understand where he was coming from but he implied I was upsetting a lot of people. I know most of the hunters on the server and they would come to me. I never even heard of this guy. He came at me rude. I stayed polite. I don't intentionally go out of my way to upset people. Not even opposing faction. I inadvertently erked one guy. He came at me rude. Just funny how he decided he wanted to handle it.

Honestly use the pet you like. I mean ya I've had to drop out of game to clear my cache when a hunter comes by with a spawn, but its their pet they can use it if they like. If they are purposely standing at the spawn with the pet that's one thing. If they are doing dailies and what not, and using the pet I see no problem with that. If I tamed a new spawn I wouldn't want to hide it in my stables because It might set of someones NPCscan.

No he was being a douchenozzle. It would be one thing if you were sitting on a spawn point for extended periods with your pet out, or going out of your way to grief him, but no - you're just doing dailies and otherwise minding your own business. If you really want your pet to be named Magria, then do it.

I don't use npcscan, but I do use targeting macros for rares, and yes people using the original name obv do set it off... but ya know what? They can name their pets whatever they want, and it's something I have to accept and work around. That's just life.

And I do.

Put him on /ignore and waste no more time thinking about it.

You might've been upsetting people, even if they don't say something. I get frustrated when someone sits by a spot with their Rare the rare. I don't send them a tell to scream at them though. I just kind of sigh and clear my cache because 1) They could be clueless 2) They could be trolling and why give them the satisfaction? 3) Maybe they forgot to put it away and parked. 4) They just might be running around.

It IS a bit thoughtless to say, use the cats on the regrowth area. But I just try to be thoughtful.

He wasn't entirely right to yell at you and go on and on either though. >> He had a point, he just covered it in jerk.

Offtopic, I adore vocaloid (Mizki forever! Or Iroha maybe...). But yeah, you can't please everyone. I find just not using them in *that* particular zone is compromise for me. Also, my happy common Bananaspider(TM) never sets off alarms, which is a pleasant perk.

This is why I think the addon NPC Scan is fail. It's stupid that an addon is going to trigger because of a pet. SilverDragon never does this and it works exactly like NPC Scan.

If they give you more trouble in the future, tell them to go install SilverDragon and get over it -_-

I use neither, but I had heard that about SilverDragon. How maintenance-intensive is it, e.g. just add some NPC IDs to a list and then it's hands-free? Or do you have to do additional caching / updating / etc?

Ya, I've already seen someone with Banny sitting "afk" on the Malorne statue with other hunters giving him /rude emotes.

Until things die down on my server, I just won't use my Banny while in a Hyjal. Sitting in Org showing off is a different story.

This is just plain silly any player that has the right to use a macro because hes to lazy to get a rare any other way, also has the right to use his pet anywhere he wants. If you have business in that spot then everyone just has to deal with you there IMHO...

Agreed with SilverDragon. I only have NPCScan for mobs that aren't rare but I want to look for anyway (i.e. baby green spider pats).

SD will alert you when a rare is-
a] moused over by you
b] mouse over by a party member
c] their name plate is in view

It DOES NOT require cache clearing. It DOES NOT give false alarms because of this.

I try to not to have my rares out in the same zone I got him from. I don't want to set off any false alarms with NPC scan.
