Finally got him! Stood on that tree, fought off a few hunters, befriended one across faction, then POP! I Actually saw it spawn! Now I'm going to help the other hunter if I can!

I've tamed all four wotlk spirit beasts with out a problem (paid for loque but worth it)

I even got the green devilsaur and atona just fine!

Even the twilight highlands spirit wolf and the alliance mount skinned cat with out any issues!

But then came the four in hyjal... never before have i hated a zone...

Yes! magria! i found him/her/it last night right after the spirit beast wolf! My luck in cata is the same as wotlk! . . . or so i thought...

That bird... Ban'thalos... After staying online all my free time the past 2 days I SAW HIM! I dismounted, arcane shot him, deterrence when i was near the ground. THEN BLAMO! i get hit so hard by his moomfire spam, i deleted my level 85 (not really) moonkin in hopes blizz will nerf moonfire! I died; i ran back to my body though and reset. My heart was racing. Another hunter was going after it! i wish him the best of luck. He got him to the ground, but he dies aswell! He had 2 friends help hold the beast down before he got back; or so i thought. Right in front of my eyes THE FERAL DRUID FRIEND OF THE HUNTER KILLED HIM. It was tapped, I couldn't do anything! Couldn't tame... nothing....

And now i sit here, sulking; both in game and in real life...

It gets worse; the hunter said to me " yeah now hes dead so my pet can spawn." I was horrified... im told that "he will spawn again" but they don't understand.... i've been online for the past 2 days JUST for taming that thing. He wouldn't even let me try, the other hunter just wanted him dead.

So I post on these forums to hopefully cheer myself up and maybe get some words of encouragement... I also wasnt able to sleep the past 2 days due to anxiety of waiting for it to spawn.

PS: What is the spawn timer of this beast anyways? Perhaps I can wake at the right time to claim?
Was this asshat hunter true with this bird and the other spirit cats of hyjal sharing the same spawn?

Only the 2 cats share a spawn timer

Ban is on a timer of his own which is 6-17 hours

but don't let it get your down. This has happened to all of us at one time or another, and its true the rare will respawn. Hopefully just for you.

Thank you.... I'm kinda messed up when it comes to the game right now; i cant find my niche and i think this has become my new one.

Rare hunter is a very good niche IMO, but you will run out of stable slots fast.

Yeah i'm there only have 3 slots left.

Actually theres a way to get Ban'thalos without fearing a deathfall!!!

The "Tree" is the tallest one near the stone Malorn alter, near the Flight path. You can stand right on the tip of it, drop your freeze trap and then mount up, fly straight up (spacebar) untill you are able to target Ban'thalos when he comes around, tap him and then fall, you should land back on the tree. Hit deterance and tame, he should get caught in your tap and vola! New owl!

I have actully spent my time camping in that tree. I went afk to watch some tv kinda tired of positioning myself on that tree over and over so I just left my chick afk on the deer statue. I came back and saw it, panicked and was way to jittery and twitchy with excitement to even try to take the time to get on that tree....

You can position yourself in that tree long before ban spawns. You'll be able to see him from there.

Definitely my favorite strategy for getting Ban'thalos. I had parked my hunter in the tree for most of the day and while I was in a random Z on my paladin, I get a whisper from a guildie I helped tamed him the day before saying that he had spawned. Finished the boss I was on, switch to hunter, lay trap, fly up shoot and tame.

OT: I truly hope that you will be able to get your spirit owl soon. Just brush off those that do these things and be kind to other hunters and kharma will see fit that you obtain your pets

For sure people see a rare they want to kill it. In the tree people have less acess to him, and he'll hit your trap pretty fast and alot less fall damage. That hunter was just plain rude, there is no reason to kill it cause you think it'll make something spawn when you see a hunter trying to tame it already. Why not just let that hunter tame it. And why would he think Ban shares a spawn timer with anything else.. *sigh*

And non-hunters wonder why I have so many hunter alts...

Same thing happened to me last night- now I'm back to camping in that dang tree with Morga.
*offers a hug* we all go trough the same things over and over again....

At least I was able to help an other hunter tame Karkin today with Findu, who's waiting for Skarr to pop up.
