Pet naming schemes.

Some people name their pets after movie characters/anime characters/etc I've heard a lot of random themes from people on the forums, so do you have a naming theme? and what is it?

I actually just noticed a majority of my pets were named after songs or artists when I was thinking about it and was wondering if a lot of other people have schemes.

I'm not really sure if you can call mine a theme or not, but most often I will wiki like....'lion' or 'wolf' or something similar and usually pull names from mythology and history. Sometimes even names from popular books, like my Skoll's name is 'Victor' after Victor Frankenstein. I find it fun to find names like that. Some of my pets are named after gods, some just names from mythology in general, like my wolves, and even still, I have a few from just straight up technical names. Jadefang's name is 'Chamosite' after a green type of shale rock. xD

I tend to name mine after mythology, literature, anime characters, Japanese words or real words if I cannot think of anything else.

I'm varied. :)

This one tends to name pets within an underworld/hell and Goetic demon theme. (IE: Judecca the Wolf, Lethe the Warp Stalker, Leraje the Runehound)

It's a little dark, yes, but being that he is a "retired" warlock I found it rather fitting.

My tiny hunter on Moon Guard has a famous musician naming theme. So, for example, she has Coltrane the Wolf, Sinatra the Lion, Crosby the Fox, etc...

Sandwiches has....types of sandwiches. ;)

Kallimon has a majority Cajun/Creole theme.

And of course, Kalliope is Greek mythological characters (no gods, just mortals/demigods; the gods are my mounts ;) ).

Hmm, my troll Gazini has all of her pets named after Voodoo loa and African gods for the most part. I'm sure it's common theme for trolls, but I love it nonetheless. I have a casual night elf alt who's my Japanese themed hunter. Other than those two I don't really stick to naming schemes. :)

On my orc, my pets are named anything from cool word combinations (Grimfang, Ripgrin, whatever) to mythological names (Leviathan, Valak or Behemoth, etc) to descriptive words like Derelict (my skeletal bird). Anything that fits, no theme needed! ^^

For my Forsaken hunter, I tried making up a list of words associated with negative emotions and ideas. Anyone can feel free to use this theme & names, ofc :P

Bane, Woe, Misery, Torment, Voodoo, Grief, Bleak, Gloom, Sorrow, Agony, Vex, Hex, Jinx, Rage, Horror, Blue, Rotclaw, Malice, Vice, Spite, Chaos, Sin, Wrath, Fury, Avarice, Shame, Regret (not all of them are "taken" yet, as she's a lowbie, but quite a few are!).

Over two hunters...

DaTara, Nehro, RileyTucker, Stormello, and Summerly are racehorses.
Atraxi, DoraBella and Galiffrey are from Dr Who.
Agarina, Archduke, Doncamatic, Faris, Murdoc, Rhys, Takeshi and TwoD are all inspired by my music tastes.
Marceline was from a cartoon I was obsessed with.
BaiYun, Goma, Hopkins, Index, Kamaji, Koga, Maru, Sakii, Sora, and YukiTatsu were sprung from my anime love.
Lily, Sunder, Dozer, Gravity, Hopkins, Rosco, Stellan, Azzro, Bartok, Issac, Repose, Sundrop, and Whammy were short and classy enough.
Gustiver is a long story that makes me emotional.
Irridescent looks as such, Hadronox looks like... you guessed it. They weren't very creative, I'll admit.

Seems to vary. One thing I refuse to do, one thing I cannot stand, is naming a rare after itself. Don't get me started. HUGE pet peeve.

My theme Ive tried (and failed horribly at keeping up with) has been trying to name pets after god/goddess. Sometimes it works out well. Other times Ill be listening to music and get the urge to name a pet after the singer of whatever Im listening too.
(course my lion Rayne was always going to be named that after my cat :) )

i don't currently have a naming scheme, because i just can't seem to find one that i click with. i tried board games once, but that didn't last (although my deathmaw is still named risk). i wish i could find a good one though! my bf's hunter is named acapella and he has all music named pets (motown, fugue, calypso etc) which makes me super jealous to no end lol.

I don't really do naming schemes. When I named my first pet, years back, I was going to do a lesser Norse deities/aspects theme, so I named my boar Baradis after one of my Lady Freyja's aspects. After that, though, it's just invented fantasy names with something of a Slavic feel to them at times: Anevka, Dharr, etc. My yellow fire spider is named Citraxia, the Cit- being 'citrus' for the color, and -axia being a spidery feeling name.

I pretty much just name my pets as what feels 'right'. For a while, I was only naming my pets in languages other than English (I'm on a European server and have a selection of languages to choose from) but there's too many names that just jump out at me. So I still have my Doden (Death in Swedish), Panzer ("armored" in German) and Dai ('Gimme' in Russian), but Shiva and Ebonlocke and Cheshire are in there, too.

Varethyn doesn't have much of a naming theme either, also opting for a mixture of things that suit the pet such as Myst the ghostsaber and Boreas the white rhino (with ice effect!)
Kwillix's pets are all named after mythical beings that suit the pet or pet family (with the exception of his crocolisk Ripfang who I keep meaning to rename Nemesis >_>).
Lakita's pets are (in the process of being) named after various music styles.
I'm also tempted to make another hunter and name my pets after Legend of Zelda characters... I just need a name for the hunter :P

I like using a theme for each of my hunters. Ones I've used include: rocks & minerals, characters from a novel, starting with the same letter, plants, alcoholic drinks, food, poker terms. I tend to be less strict about following themes on my alts, though, if I think of a good name.

Lately I've been naming my pets after in-game weapons. I've got Neretzek, Iblis, Mo'krosh, and Valius.

Sort of. My Pet Journal hunter, Solaira, has pets all named after the PokeRP that took place on the forums, and her name comes from my main character. It's funny to post a new pet and see the owner of the character go, ":D You chose my character!"

Other than that, not really. I have a fearow in my soul silver game named McKay after Dr. Rodney McKay from SG:A?

Most of my pets are named after mythological deities or beasts, the majority tending towards Slavic mythology. The others are simply names that "fit" for them, be it Inkspill the violet and indigo beetle or Cloisonne, my Karkin.

My "wasp brothers," Rex Ashil and Zora, are Obsius and Cyprus -- archaic deviations of obsidian and copper respectively.

Kaelys's pets are for the most part named sorta simple, semi-descriptive things. Anything with a more complicated name I just say he got help from his mate, his father or a friend with.

Kaenn's pets are all biblical names. His backstory pet was named Eve, his first in-game pet was Lilith and it just sorta went from there.

My wee little undead huntress has gross creepy pets with cutsey names, like Snuggles the plague bear.

Just tamed my last Molten Front tame, Kirix. Wanted to name him after my fiancee since he's been helping me with all these tames, but I settled for naming him after my fiancee's weapon, Akirus (the Worm-Breaker) so I don't break my theme.

I use comic names for one hunter, and names based of 40k for my troll hunter, i'm still looking for a theme that will fit for my worgen hunter...she collects all canines :)
