WoW Petopia Community

Right now the General Chat forum really covers everything that isn't directly pet-related -- which theoretically means that it should be the place to post your favorite survival build, your favorite raid instance, or your favorite band. I'm thinking that might be a little broad and maybe we should break that up some. What do you think? Would any of these options be useful?

I think that some more forums could definitely be beneficial.

Perhaps one for strategy/playing tips.....this could have threads that fall under specs, talent help, raiding, etc.

Maybe have a General Chat for World of Warcraft (other WoW topics that don't necessarily fall under Hunter categories) alongside with the other one (which could be based on more real-life stuff)

I could probably set up some hunter specing guides if I had the place for them.

Personally, I like them the way they are. But that's just me.

General WoW could be by itself without subcategories (and probably should be).

Too specific? I'm just thinking that a hunter looking for information about running a beastcleave comp in arena might not be thrilled at having to wade past stickied threads of RP addons.

Don't add too many forums!

Just add a Hunter one and leave the rest.

I say at least seperate the General Forums into the normal Off Topic Forums (For random stuff in RL) and the General WoW Forums (That doesn't always involve Hunters or Pets).

But I also like Kalliopes idea. <3

I'm leaning towards something along the lines of what Kalliope suggested. A few main categories for forums and then sub-categories beneath them. As for the sub-categories themselves, perhaps we don't need as many quite specific as what she mentioned, but something similar.

These are my ideas for 4 categories:

• Pets
  Self explanatory. All pet-related topics could go here.
  
  Hunters
  This could be more about asking advice about playstyle, be it talent specs, pvp, raiding, etc. The class in general.
  
  World of Warcraft
  All other WoW topics that don't involve hunters or pets.
  
  Chit-Chat
  A general board for random chatting/real life stuff/etc.

That seems to encompass all topics that we might bring up and in a neat manner without being too cluttery. The decision for the sub-topics are up to you.

Getting too fine-grained for relatively low traffic forums generally isn't a good idea - it makes things too sparse and there are too many subtle shades as to what belongs where (which makes it hard to decide where to go to read about certain topics as well as where to post new topics).

That's why I voted for just splitting the current "General" into "General WoW" and "Non-WoW" forums (under whatever names).

Given the nature of Petopia, I think having a dedicated pets-only (but not other hunter elements) forum makes sense, and if there's a General WoW forum, I don't think you gain much by making a hunter specific forum alongside it.

I'm not attached to having so many sub-categories, btw; I just didn't want to slight any particular group by leaving someone out. >_>

Could combine General and Casual Playing. Then it's only four subs, which seems more reasonable.

I suppose the pet and hunter forums wouldn't have to be split, but I really like the idea of Petopia having pet-specific forums.
