Do you sometimes tame something and regret it?

Or even just not feel it?
I just tamed Ghostcrawler and one of the skittering green spiders. I feel nothing for either one. And I feel kinda bad for it. Should I try and see if we can bond even though?
I think ... I was more into the pursuit, for these, than because I wanted them for them. And I don't like that feeling.

I know exactly what you are feeling. I call this "the obligatory tame". I wasn't all that happy wih ghost crawler but he was my first spirit beast ever I was able to get my paws on. I've actualy bonded with him over th past few days and snce I only pvp anymore I have been cycling through all my unique rares I've been fortunate enough to get so they all get some love regrdless of being an obligatory tame or not lol. I even named my gondria "Sigh" because I was questing on a druid alt when she set off my npc scan and felt like I had to tame it because she was just there.
You will love them just give them some time

I don't think anyone would look at you any differently if you let them go. They will spawn again. :3
If you aren't feeling it, then you aren't feeling it. Sometimes you just KNOW you're gonna love your pet immediately when the tame ends and that bright flash of gold rings around them for that split second and you're squeeling like a two year old over it. I've had several pets that I thought I really liked and they just didn't click with me after I had them. I think a test period of bonding would really be up to you in the end. :3 Don't force yourself to keep a pet, it'd end up seeing more stable time then anything that way and you'd just feel even worse. If you feel like you need some time to get a bond going then I dun see the harm it would do, but if you just keep looking at it and don't click with it, again, don't force yourself. There could be some silly common pet out there waiting on you to come by and fall in love with it and take it home. xD

Terrorpene on Kallimon never clicked. I felt obligated to tame him because he was up and no one else wanted him. It was amazing to feel how different things were when TP tamed Kalliope. Jadefang was cool and green, but ultimately didn't speak to my heart the way Kirix does. I have no regrets.
This can happen for common mobs too; Kallimon ended up with a red runed demon dog and a green wind serpent, neither of which clicked with Kalliope.
In the end, regardless of how rare (or not) the tame is, if you feel nothing toward it, then that can't be helped.
Oh, and an edit re: Ghostcrawler - I didn't name mine properly the first time and it always bothered me. So I retamed him and gave him the name I should have in the first place and he clicked. You never know!

This is a great question, and I've come across the same dilemma! Like yourself and Splaticus, I'd tamed Ghostcrawler because I loved the idea of a challenging tame. Once I had him, however...it just didn't click. I gave him about a week of PvP and PvE work. By the end of it, though, I still didn't feel anything for him, and ended up letting him go.
Other times, however, I've surprised myself and fallen in love with pets that I didn't originally think I'd look twice at. Anthriss (yellow rare lava spider) is a great example; I'd tamed her because others were trying to kill her. I named her MissThriss, and she's really grown on me after some harrowing world PvP moments. I'd also replaced my Ashtail (rare fox) with a Baradin Fox (the exact mob that dropped my Fox Kit minipet). I think it's just a matter of what you experience with the pets. Maybe give yours a chance for about a week, but also don't feel bad if you don't click and you each go your own merry way. Like IRL, it happens!

This happens to me way more than not...
My main had every Northrend Spirit Beast at some point - but I figured I didn't really need nor WANT so many, so I kept only Gondria. However, at some point I started really missing my Arcturis, Rune... And so asked a GM to restore him and said goodbye to Gondria. Nowadays I make a clear point to not tame Spirit Beasts on Nanyana: she already has Rune and Karoma she named Lyall, and there is absolutely no need for any more, no matter how good they may look.
She also had Jadefang at some point, but I never really used him over a Beetle, so I simply let him go. All I can say is, I'm extremely picky on pets on my main, and she finds it really hard to bond with new pets. The only pet she would never even consider abandon is her Ghost Saber, everything else came in late Wrath or Cataclysm.
Whenever I come upon a rare pet, I always either find another hunter or tame it myself. The latter pretty much always leads to me abandoning the pet later - to me it's really hard to bond with something I just happened across. The more I worked for it, the more I'll end up value it, which is why I always go for the hard tame, even if it's a common skin.

I think ... for Ghostcrawler it's that he's not the right fit for Mindala. Min is a Marksmanship hunter. It's not just her talent tree, it's her personality. She's never going to use him; he'll spend his whole life in the stables
I guess I didn't realize just how deep that went into her nature. Stupid of me. It's my first spirit beast, and I think the last for her. I don't want to take in pets and never use them. I have a Devilsaur but again I think I'll let it go and embrace her nature rather than force Min to be someone she's not. One doesn't do that with characters one loves.
It felt wrong even when I was doing the tame.
Also, and part of why I didn't feel it; Min tamed Karkin last night. He's the crab for her heart, I think. That one was panic and glory and a tear or two ...
The spider ... she already tamed a common yellow one, the first one she ever met. She don't need another. The only one of the rares that tempts her at all is Deth, and she's not absolutely sure there either.
So they're both going to run free and I thank her for her honesty and apologize for my stubbornness in wanting to go against her nature.

I've also had quite the opposite happen recently. I went to see if I could aquire olm the wise just to see what he actually looked like in game because I was severely underwhelmed by his pic on petopia. I ended up falling head over heals for him. He has a stunning low-keyness and doesn't overwhelm like some of the spetral beast glows. I even find him more attractive than banth.
Like the others said its about how you feel and how willing you are to make room in your stable for them.

It is done. Both roam free, as does the devilsaur; she also released several other pets that she hadn't taken to.
And then she went to Huntress Kuzari and asked to abandon the way of the beastmaster and focus exclusively on the marksmanship she loves.
Golden, Mindala also found a Ghost Saber when she was a young hunter exploring Darkshore, and Anevka and she are bonded so close I don't think either could function without the other.
I didn't think she'd bond with the Madexx we found, though, and she did. She just went into the zone on a whim, flew around a bit, and there she, Matreska, was. One of the unwanted brown/bronze ones.

Exactly the same here, and excellent description
I look at it as challenging myself as a hunter. I've tamed Karkin, Ghostcrawler, Solix etc when nobody's around and abandoned them shortly thereafter, although when hunters ARE around, I will whisper every single one of them (sometimes on both factions) or go so far as to do the pre-tame maneuvers (Deth, Solix, or Skitterflame kiting for example) FOR them.
Console yourself with these:
1. Part of playing a game can be pushing your limits and seeing what you can do in the framework of that game, including trying out hard or strange tames.
2. You never know what pets you'll like, and you'll never know what odd pet loves you may have missed until you try them all!

Magria and I were at odds, there were some hunters who were after her but i ended up stumbling upon her when no one was at her patrol route and she looked really gorgeous so i tamed, and today i released.. same for sambas, i tamed him cause i was like OMFG, i had him early on in cata but never did i use him, he got a little play time but back in the stabes he went, and now hes running around Uldum lol

Yes sometimes... but it's never with the rares I spend hours on in staring at my screen to get. I honestly think the harder the pet is to get the quicker I bond with them. When I stumble across rares out when leveling a toon or just on my rare spawn rounds (cata and wrath rares); if I happen not to be able to find the little guys home I feel obligated to tame them and try to bond with them. This has only worked out twice, and surprisely one was today. With Dart and Soriid the Devourer.

There have been so many pet that I've loved how they look, and I've wanted them and leveled just to tame them, only to just...not...click. Its very sad to find a pet much anticipated that just doesnt have that bond. Today I actually released a Blue runic dog, I absolutely love the model, the color, its a beautiful pet, absolutely wonderful, and yet whenever I used it I felt like I didnt have a pet at all. It just wasnt there for me.
I also find myself somewhat limited by a Strong bond though, between myself and my Red Hyena, its such a strong bond that we have that I almost feel guilty not using him, which sometimes taints my experience with other pets. Makoes and Nanaki are partners 100%...which doesnt leave room for much else.

This happened to me with Sambas and any sort of spider pet. I still have sambas in my stable never gets used, when i need to go MM i use Skarr or the mulgore wolf. I can tell a pet isnt for me when i cant think of a name i ended up with the cliché name of Pride compared to the wolf called Skychaser and Skarr called Sakkari

Mindala seems to do OK with cats in general; I have four (Sambas, ghostsaber, white maned, black maned) and all get love. [This may reflect the preferences of the roleplayer coming out in the character; in RL I have five cats.]
Min's first pet was a boar that she tamed just outside Orgrimmar; he's still there, because there's a bond; they've been through a lot together. He doesn't get taken out as much anymore, but in my mind it's because he's old and she wants to go easy on him.
I don't have much trouble with names most time; this is what comes of being an aspiring fantasy novelist. Names come easy.
I'm camping for Terrorpene right now. I hope that one bonds. And Skarr; but Mindala and he already have a history, he's killed her four times I think. Before I knew the right taming skills.

Not really. I usually pick my tames based on what they look like, rather than their rarity. I pondered the wee green spiders, but will stick with my lovely Broodqueen.

Yup. Let's see....Skoll, Loque, Arcturis were these tames. I tamed them because they were rare, hated them, dropped them like they're hot.
Gondria and I have the oddest relationship. I had wanted to love Gondria. Tamed her twice on the spot. Finally, I decide I want a spirit beast and I'll take whatever I see, except deep down, I know it's Gondria I want. Days of lazily searching all of them provide nothing until finally I see and tame Gondria. She's now my hunter's go-to BM pet of choice.

I understand what you mean, I did the same with Ghostcrawler as well and I actually didnt click with Terrorpene for a very very long time.. that is until I had fun pulling him out at firelands and freaking out my guild leader

Even if they are rare if they don't click they just don't click, sometimes its really hard to release them but that open spot could go for something you really love. I understand the whole rare is up, have to tame it

Think of it as bait and release. People do it when fishing all the time.

I've had this feeling a lot of times, yes. Karoma, for instance, was a 'release'. He and I never bonded, because Arcturis had my heart. I still have the Venomous Skitterer I tamed for the 'obligatory tame' feeling, and really should let the thing go. I'll never use it. Panzer is my go-to pet for tanking and always will be. I almost had that feeling for Sambas, but then I found his proper name, and ever since he and I have been fairly solid.
