Can someone please show me how to tame an oil-stained wolf? A method that still works in 4.2, not old guides that may or may not work.

Get it killed as the tame finishes, spamming Revive to make it despawn as tame completes. If you do it right you'll need to relog to see the pet. Don't take it into Arenas or Rated BGs.

Any move that can one shot the wolf will do. I suggest a rogues back stab (its what I have used). The second it dies you will need to spam revive. If you have no pet to revive you failed. If you see the gold ding from the tame you failed. If it doesn't have that buff you failed . It will take time just do it till you get it, and you will eventually get it.

When I got an oil covered hawk I used the method of timing out my Serpent Sting to see how long the DoT took to kill the bird, and then adjusted it to my Tame Beast cast and timed it from there so that the tame ended right as the last tick of SS killed it.
