Do you ever become "tired" of some of your pets?

I realized that some of TÄrnfalks pets no longer "spoke" to her, I had no real bond with them, and had only tamed them because of the white color, or because they looked good on my other hunters.

I have the past days released a bunch of pets and retamed some new onces in order to see if i can bind with them. I am still not ready to release Loque, Krush, Chromagus or the rare golden worm... but tbh... i RARELY uses them anymore I just wish i could give them away to some hunter who would be more then happy to take them over from me. The purple warpstalker is being rehomed with my Dwarf as it will fit her better :)

These are my new pets (so fare )... funny enough it seams that i now color co-ordinate pets with my gear; atleast some of them (not intended though)

I can totally relate to this. I recently have started getting rid of pets (even spirit beasts, which I never thought I'd do) in order to get some different and in many ways, less rare pets for my hunter. Many of these really clicked with me, and I love them! As much as I like finding rares and taming them, there is something about clicking with a pet that really makes the hunter class fun for me.

On a slightly related side note, I have now tried to (and failed to) tame Kirix on two separate occasions. I am on a PVP server and my luck would have it that the two times I have seen him on, I've started getting camped. :( Ouch.

Here's hoping the third time's the charm!

GL with your pets. :D

It happens. It's definitely not something to feel guilty about. Kurasu has been through pets in his time that just 'lost that spark', and occasionally I'll even get them back when the 'spark' comes back. And I have the same problem: losing interest in a rare, but feeling bad about releasing it because of what it took to get it. Poor Terrorpene is due for release at some point, for instance. And I dropped Karoma finally when Ban'thalos came around.

Actually, yeah, I'm going through a bit of this now in fact. Gonna get a bit lengthy here, apologies.

My one and only wolf for the longest time(and my go-to pet for everything) is a tamed Thunderlord Dire Wolf out in Blade's Edge who I named Umbergore. I think my love for his skin came from camping Barnabus back around mid-Wrath - after waiting on him all day, anxiously pacing back and forth on my dinky little ground mount I had him stolen from me in a massive show of asshattery by a blood elf hunter, who then tricked me into dueling and killed me with my own wolf. I wasn't really very knowledgeable at that point, and even though my level-capped guildies came out to teach him a lesson I didn't really get over the loss of what I thought should have been my dog - until Outlands, at least.

Funnily enough, despite him being my favorite pet I don't have any screenshots of me now that aren't of his butt. Have a screenshot of the PTR instead - just pretend I'm an orc, hah:
Image

I love him and everything about him, something about his model and his animations just struck me as a grumpy old man sort - and after a faction change and many many hours of leveling, who wouldn't be old and grumpy? He's had a huge impact on my roleplay, but in theory he's getting pretty far on in years and, really, I'm kind of tired of looking at the same wolf all day. He doesn't even fight anymore ICly - he's at home, playing babysitter for Vee's daughter and her moderately annoying worg pup.

Figuring I'd just say he died during the Shattering, I let him go once before, and when the realization finally struck me I dropped everything to petition a GM for his return. He was only gone for a few days, but it still felt like I had lost a close friend. And yet he stayed in my main roster for weeks before taking his spot back in my stables, and I look at him for a long time every time I clean them out. It's not that I don't love him anymore, obviously, since I asked someone to restore him, but I just don't feel as attached to him as I used to be. He still sees his fair share of dungeons and he proved useful on the PTR(during Ulduar, where everyone either had a cat or a spirit beast, hah), but I wonder if it's time for a change all the same.

I've decided to adopt Caboodle's wolf Lemmy and see if he gets on any better with Veeka, and so far I really love the black coyote skin, but I just can't bring myself to let Umbergore go. For now, he's staying tucked away in my stables. Maybe another faction change back to my old Draenei self and a clean slate will make him more attractive again, or maybe it'll give me the will to let him go and say he's finally passed on. He's served me well through many a level and haphazard oldschool raid PuG, so in a way just talking about it makes me feel like I'm losing my real life dog. This is all absurd of course, since he's just pixels, but it's a little jarring to know that I'm thinking about getting rid of my blob of reddish brown pixels. :P

Currently, I am actually tired of ALL my pets :o I have no feelings about which pets to use at all, end up using spider for MM and regular corehound/SB for BM just because I don't care about much.
Except Moony of course. I'll always <3 Moony!

So yeah, it happens. After I collect all the Spirit Beasts (this patch I gotta get 4 now instead of 1, greaaat -.-) I'll probably do a massive pet-clearance from my stables, including at least 1 Spirit Beast (looking at you Gondria, sorry :()

I'm definitely feeling this way about my Krush... I simply grew really tired of this huge dino sticking his ass in my face, so I got a barking wolf to fill his place. Granted, I never abandoned him, but he very rarely sees daylight anymore.

Nub: Can relate. My "Umbergore" is my Rak'shiri, Moonlight. I mean, that cat was with me through everything. When we could only have three stable slots, I had Moonlight, Midnight (My old panther who been a good friend for quite some time.) and the free space reserved for hell knows what. (I'm positive there was some pet I adored that I got rid of eventually.)

So here I am, Outlands with Moonie, when I see a black owl. And I'm like, ooh! Pretty bird! Guiltily drop Rak and tame a bird. Five minutes later I'm off to Winterspring to retame Rak'shiri. After a few days and a nice player whose name is lost in time to me, sorry, Moonlight is back at my side.

From there, Moon was my trademark pet. When you thought Firewing in my guild, it was Moonie. He was a huge part in my RP, this grumpy, paranoid protector who carried quite a bit of guilt from his past that ate him up, eventually. While I no longer RP with those folks and have long left the guild, Moonie was still just that. Moonie. And then Cata came and they took my cat and replaced it. I had to abandon him, but when the change was coming around, I used my first ever pet restore and asked for him to come home. Sure enough, Moonlight came, but I've realized that bond is gone, it's not strong. I'll never abandon him again, but after two expansions, he does deserve a rest and let the rookie, Aralos the spirit beast, show her stuff.

I guess I like to look at like those detective agencies. One prime detective, Moonlight, retires, so his rookie, Aralos, takes his place.

In response to Nubhorns - if you feel any negative emotion whatsoever towards abandoning a pet, it's not worth it :) WoW is a game to enjoy and have fun in - we have 25 slots now, I'm pretty sure Umbergore can take up some space in one of them without causing too much concern. I mean if you really want to get rid of him, that's fine - but if you love the pet and would miss him there really is no point making yourself feel bad or sad over a game that you have total control over! Keep your puppy. You'll regret it otherwise... and he's an old man anyway, he doesn't mind chillaxin' in the warm cozy stables or inn or wherever you leave him while you go running about with those young un's through pits of lava and snow and god knows what else!

---

But yes. Back to the original topic... I get tired of my pets quite quickly, which is why I really struggle to keep any that I don't take an immediate liking to. Even some that I do *like* but don't... um, have personal experiences with? I'll struggle to appreciate enough and usually they get shuffled out as I try out new skins and stuff. I have a nice number of pets now that I'd never get rid of - my common cat, Karma, my blue Madexx, Ruchbah, my coyote Jake, and more recently my Ban'thalos and Deth'tilac, both of whom I've taken a great liking to. Many that I'm very fond of and would feel bad about ditching so I just won't (Skoll, Gondria, Loque, my silithid Snuffles, my winterspring frostsaber pet Aurora, my black hunched kitty from Ulduar that the whole guild helped me get, etc). Then I have a few that my BOYFRIEND* likes and won't let me abandon because he loves them so much even though I really... don't want them that much lol (Terrorpene, Arcturis). Then are those that I used to love... but ... eh. :/ I never use them, and I don't regret not using them, and I don't like them that much anyway - in the case of my Krush, he's wonderful and all, but even if I go BM I'll still use my wolf. I completely forgot that I tamed the purple Warpstalker until my bf mentioned it earlier. I'm really really not that fussed with my dragonhawk - the wind serpent is nice to have around, but again on the hierarchy of pets I'm not overly attached.

* Get this - he gets excited over the pets I tame and won't let me ditch his favourites but hunters are apparently a stupid class to play and they suck and he could never stand playing one. :P gg my friend, gg.

I wouldn't say I get tired of pets, but my stables definitely change over time. Sometimes I'll decide to prioritize different colors. Sometimes a new skin becomes available that I really like. I have no difficulty with releasing pets to tame new ones, so I experiment with different things. But I don't have a very changeable nature, so my stable is fairly...'stable'. :)

I have a bunch of different hunters, so abandoning isn't something I usually have to consider - so far the only one who has "maxed out" on stable space is my BE Khitsune, and the ones shes abandoned have been "upgrades", e.g. I replaced her brown bone spider ("Jorogumo") with Deth'Tilac ("Shinigami") on grounds that her spider's nefarious ways got her promoted from demon to death aspect, and I replaced her armored black boar ("Tanuki") with a spiky blue hellboar of the same name (general power-up there).

Tarnfalk it happens,

I found the best way is to release the pets that you don't use or don't plan on using. I was at 25 for a while now, but getting rid of the simple trophy pets has brought me down to 14 currently, and then I'm planning on letting even a few more go.

If the only spirit beasts that I use are Loque and Arc, why keep Karoma, Skoll, Gondria, Ghostcrawler? (had them all at one point).

One way to look at it, maybe as a RP perspective (even though I dont RP), wouldn't you pet be happier playing in the field instead of locked up in your stables all day? Wouldn't you like to let your pets be free in the wild rather than left alone to be randomly put on display for a bunch of strangers to gawk at?

I think it does happen, especially with all the new pets coming out and using a pet so much that eventually sometimes you get sick of them, or theres the "its rare, must tame it" syndrome which happens to me alot. Or the I love the skin but I dont use it but I cant ever get rid of it like Aotona and Sambas for me..

Oh Nubs for me I had the same thing with Teeka (araga) I just couldnt click anymore with her, so I made her have a change of skin. During cata she went hiding into the mountains and there grew into a frostsaber. It.. worked out just great! And now I could never think of releasing her :) Sometimes a change of skin can help alot.

I recently was able to release a few I don't use at all but hoping that I can add a bit to that.. just for the 4.3 rares we know thats coming

I tamed Sambas ("Virgil") on my BE for that reason - never thought I'd use him, but actually found he was sort of nice to have along on PuGs when in MM spec...

I have made it a point that every day I play on my hunter, I go to the stables and swap out my 5 pets for 5 others. I also make sure that I am selecting something different everyday and that I'm not repeating who I take out. I found this way, I was playing with all my pets, and any that I just did not like, or knew I did not want to play with, I released them back. I still have a full stables, and of course my favorites... but at least I'm not hording pets I will never use. I have been enjoying the swapping out and playing all the different pets that I have.

This is a good strategy, else it is all too easy to get into a rut. While soloing I try to make myself rotate through my handful of Tenacity pets, and for each guild dungeon run that I do, I try to break out a different Ferocity pet. The newest and 'shiniest' ones still tend to get the most play, Aurora (Ban'thalos) being the current guild favorite, but I do like to mix it up. Guild RP events are also good for bringing a full load of pets and changing them out at opportune times: Ripper (Ashtail), for example, is always up for a dance! ;)

I <3 that little fox. Well, all fox models are too cute, really....

For the longest time, I dual-boxed with a pair of Gondrias.
However, a few months ago I discovered the advantages of Shale Spiders, and sort of adopted a a pair of those (I think a blue one and a yellow one? I'm colour-blind, so it gets confusing at times).

But I don't have any sort of feelings toward my Shale Spiders. They're GREAT pets for PvE stuff, I've been having fun doing level 70-80 dungeons duo with them, but... they don't "feel" alive to me. More like my Warlock's demon.

I recently tamed Karoma, and while I absolutely love the look of him, he still hasn't really clicked with me.

I haven't used any of my "original" pets in years, actually. I used to run with a Ravager Specimen (from Azuremyst Isle) on my Horde main, which always got loads of questions at the time (my hunter was barely level 20), but stopped using him once I hit level 60 and ODed on killing Ravagers in Hellfire!

I have one of my slots dedicated to this. My system: I have an add-on that summons random mini-pets, and I have associated all my hunter pets with one or more mini-pets. So whenever I'm near a stable master (or immediately if it is one I have on hand), I summon a hunter pet that goes with my current mini-pet.

i have several of those.but for me its a on and off thing. if the feel for that pet isent right now and it doesnt feel fun to play with right NOW it usually comes back . usually.

Like my grimtotem spirit guide. hes been my main pet sins i tamed him and i do love him alot so hes never gonna go anywhere. just...right now, he feel far from impressing, so hes been slacking around in the stable.

its just when im going into my stable with the purpose of releasing and bring them out i just cant. i remember why i liked em in the first place and thus i cant let em go, even though i dont really use it. >:
