Hey everyone,

Really long story short I have been camping off and on for Kirix and have had to watch others tame him as I wait for a rez timer after running back from GY.

I am wondering what strategies you have used to tame him?

I am a Blood Elf Hunter - Surv/BM and play on a PVP realm. I have been using:

Aspect of the Wild
Haste Food
Haste Elixir
(also have some low level haste potions but had not used them)

I know of the rock strategy, where you jump onto one of the rocks (I've been using the lone rock, however, last time I did it didn't work). Got Kirix's attention with a shot (don't remember which shot), started tame, waited til he cast his ability which I'm dropping the name of at the moment, at the end of it hit deterrence and started tame again. Tame cast went through but no spider, no error messages, and then I died.

At first I thought maybe I should have gone to the pair of rocks with the crumbling one and the solid one, and then as I was waiting for the rez timer I saw a dwarf hunter tame from the exact same place I had been taming from-- and he got Kirix. I did not see if he had haste gear/food/etc, but whatever he did worked.

The second time I tried the same thing, only this time I was out of range when he first popped, but he killed me and as I was running back from the GY another hunter tamed him.

I started camping again 6 hours later, and had a few friends and guildies out there helping me since we are on a PVP realm. It was 2 hours into the camp that we started getting camped by some people (3 hunters, a druid, a priest, a death knight, and a warrior) who were VERY PVP geared. I gave up after that for the evening, and also had some real life things to take care of.

This afternoon my guildie called me to tell me he was up, but by the time I got the computer booted up it was too late- he had been tamed by another horde hunter. I am having a camping Kirix party later and hoping that I can get some help from friends and guildies.

I have also heard of another strategy that doesn't involve the rocks at all, but has you tame pull him, wait til he casts his silence thing, disengage at the very end, pop deterrence and tame. I've also heard if you have a corehound you can pop lust and then abandon it helps... I'm just not sure of what to do here. I really, REALLY want this spider.

Any thoughts? Help? Advice??

Sorry to hear about the missed tames! I managed to tame Kirix second attempt using this method (as listed in Sasrei's thread, with some modifications I'd picked up):

Aspect of the Wild
BM Spec (but didn't use core hound's haste buff, I didn't trust myself with timing)
Elixir of Mighty Speed; Potion of Speed
PvP gear, 127k hp
Macro:

/use Potion of Speed
/cast Deterrence
/cast Tame Beast

I turned my back to the mountain after my first attempt, since in my first attempt I'd pretty much Disengaged myself off the island (doh!). Got his attention with Concussive Shot. I then waited for the punt, hit Disengage and as soon as I landed, hit my macro. I survived the tame with 9k health. I hope this helps, and good luck with your hunt!

I got that haste buff from the rock and tamed him from where you land (you can reach him from Fireplume Peak's island). I hit tame, Deterranced the toxin cast and tamed again. I kept an ice trap under him to try and keep him from evading (idk if it works but I've heard it helps). By the end of the second Toxin cast, he was tamed.

I'm BM spec and had no other buffs except the one from the rock.

*rubs forums for good luck* ... 10 hours since last spawn and no sign yet. lol

This is the tactics I used after dying over an hour or so >_>

I specced BM tried after i tried it as surv but failed miserably.
Have a core hound available with Hysteria(BL) if you don't have a core hour use a haste pot (but you most likely have less time)
stand on 1 of the rocks that u normally use to jump on the isle.
tag Kirix with an huntermark so that you can see where he is at all times.
wait till he turns and runs back to you when you see him coming from the corner pop hysteria and dismiss pet.

when he gets in ranged of your tame beast hit tame (you should have around 20-15 seconds left on your hysteria)
the tame is over in like 4-5 seconds before he even cast the spell
if there are other people you can pull with a shot and then hit tame.

I think you need to have a certain amount of haste to pull this off as well. I've tried to help hunters who have the haste buff from the rock AND using my core hound and they still failed...

What Kalli and another hunter told me was to, and myself to be extra cautious:

Aspect of the Wild
Eat some Basilisk Liverdog and drink a Elixir of Mighty Speed
Cast Ancient Hysteria
Dismiss/abandon the corehound
Shoot Kirix
Disengage when he knocks me back
Pop Deterrence and drink a potion of speed (a second after i land on the ground that is, be careful of trying to not pop deterrence too early or you get stunned)
Tame Beast

Half way through the tame bar i died but Kirix was in my Call Pet, his cloud killed me after he registered as tamed lol

well most of the gear i had was pretty standard for me atleast XD got around 8.70% haste in total without buffs.
