Avast Antivirus is the one I personally have used for a long time, and it's the one my boyfriend uses for his work. I love it, it's always been incredibly reliable. You can download a free version on their site.
Generally you do not want to have more than 1 antivirus program running as they'll often try to compete with each other or tell you the other one is malicious.

Yes, it is bad to run two different kinds. Once that one runs out uninstall it. As for free ones there's lots of different options and it all comes down to preference and which you like best really.
AVG -

Kaspersky -

Avast -

Those are the three most popular ones I can think of, off the top of my head.
Veph beat me to it.

Also of course rule number one. ALWAYS BE SURE TO UPDATE. <3

I'd vouch for AVG or Avast! Though I've had each of them catch something the other scanner wouldn't which is kind of weird.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security. When i'm too cheap to pay for KIS, I use NOD32.
Those are the only two I ever consider using.

I cant really afford to pay for it so free stuff is all i have to work with. Any help would be great Thank you for your time.

No, there is a free version and then there is a trial version. The trial lets you try out the full version, where as the free doesn't have as many features but will stop alot of stuff from reaching your computer. I have Avast and Veph said, it's an amazing Anti Virus program.
