Ban'thalos? More like Fail'thalos!

OK that was terrible.

So there I am, camping on the top of the tree. Heard a spawn time earlier in the morning, so I decided to try my luck. Sitting there, doing nothing. Occasionally summoning my traveler's mammoth and dismounting to watch the vendors fall alllll the way down. Waving to the other hunters that sorta hover right near me, or sit on Malorne's face.

Then he spawns. Heart rate goes up +100.

Attempt #1: I lay a trap down, fly up and to him. Wait... why did I move?! So I make the best of my situation, fly up to him, dismount, parachute, arcane shot... I scattershot his first cast, land... he reset. Wut? I have seen a video of a hunter doing this on live without him resetting. Frick.

Attempt #2: Immediately fly back up, dismount, tag, parachute... parachute... parachute is on coo--SPLAT-- dead. Double frick.

Attempt #3: Run back and rez, shaking my head at how dumb I was in the heat of the moment. Now my chute is up! Eat, get full HP... fly up, tag, parachute, he starts casting.. detterence with 1 second left... IT HIT ME?! 4 seconds, and 4 30k arcane hits later, dead before I hit the ground. Triple frick.

Attempt #4: Run back, rez. Fly up and land on tip top of tree (where I was at the start). Eat and wait for Ban to circle back around. Slowly... slowly... lay trap, fly up, tag, and land on top of tree safely. Scatter his cast, he hits trap, and tame. Success.

I cannot tell you how amazed I am that he didn't get tamed/killed in the mean time. Talk about a squirrelly tame. Resetting, hitting through deterrence, being an idiot and falling to my death...

FYI it was about a 12-13 hour timer on that respawn.

Gratz on the tame! 4th times a charm...? :P it is nerve wrecking for sure.

I was camping Ankha/Magria (Been here almost 9 hours now). And banthalos popped up. Land on the tree while watching 4-5 other hunters fail at staying on the tree.

I lay my trap, fly straight up, land, pop deterrance, and he kills me threw it like what happened to you. I rezz and I'm like "no way he's still there."

I rezzed, and another hunter finally figures out the tree and dismisses his pet. I lay my trap, fly up first to tag, detterance, he didnt even cast a single moonfire, landed in trap (just flew straight down). And he was mine. Other hunter didn't even try.

I think had I known that though there were like 4 other hunters in the area that didn't want him, I would have been a lot more calm and not go darting after him when he first spawned. but with one sitting on the ledge in front of Malorne, on Malorne's head, and a couple hovering, I figured they were all waiting on Ban, so when he spawned I just blitzed.

Funny, once I got Ban, I flew down to sit for Magria. Finally find the spot without a camper here already (and I don't like camping on top of someone, seems rude).

Congrats on the tame!

Actually detterence has never worked on Banny. Even in the ptr from what I recall.

Ban is most definitely on a 13+ hour timer. I waited over 13 hours in his spawn spot until he finally showed. Allies failed and somehow ended up falling off the tree, so I got him, but it was heart-racing! These new tames really do you in!

Banners is a legit hardass and moves for no man or woman. For real, he DOES make you work for it. In-fact, he was the hardest Tame I've had to do.

EDIT: Forgot the kudos, KUDOS!

For me Ban'thalos was one of the harder tames even harder then deth or kirix :)

when I got it I wasn't even looking for it

someone tried pulling it but ended up getting owned by the moonfires. at that point I dint even know the moonfires where from the bird.
so first try I tried getting myself on top of the tree (ended up dead).

second try finally manage to get on top of the tree I drop a trap (dint see the trap ended up on the floor LoL) and fly up to pull the bird. drop down and start taming then I noticed the trap wasn't going off so I ended up dead again. First i thought I was getting killed by a druid only to find out it was the pet.
so I move back to the tree pretty much expecting some other hunter trying to tame it but the hunters that where there were not interested.

so I keep continuing trying to tame it. long story short it took me over an half hour and more deaths that I could count XD(most of them were tree deaths)

But I finally tamed it with a pulling, conc shot, disengage combo in to the mountain side which almost killed me too since the sneaky bird flew straight over my trap without triggering it. so I had to maneuver on the mountain side getting moonfired and almost falling of the mountain XD.

definitely one of the more fun tames since the ""ghost wolf " tame back then.
and definitely more fun then the deth steal/kill/gank fest.

For me, he didn't moonfire at all. Likely one of the allies took that hit. He only melee'd me and hits like a little girl so it was an easy tame. The heart-racing part was the competition and the waiting, and then the possibility of failure. Of course, he MAY have only been hitting like 3 year old to me because I had cast deterrence. That was prolly it. ><

I just watched Carnacki (occasionally on this forum) tame him -- took him a couple tries to get Ban'thalos to get on the trap properly, but he pulled it off well with other hunters also trying for it. Good stuff, and it showed me where works -- I hadn't seen Banny before "in the wild".

I can confirm it's over 13 hours. I saw one one night and tried to tame it, only to have others kill it. The next day, about 14-15 hours later, I saw it respawn.
