As luck would have it...

I just hit 85 last night and I was super excited to add Kirix to my family!
I'd been in and out of the Molten Front all day, checking in on Kirix' spawn area and also the area where the clutches of green spiderlings run about without much luck. I did find the spiderlings at one point, but in the process of dismissing my current tame, they despawned and I haven't been able to find them since.
Tired of being smashed by the better geared alliance, I thought I'd venture out to the Sanctuary of Malorne to try my hand at Ban'thalos. After a few unsuccessful attempts at landing on top of the tree, I finally was able to grab a perch. I alt-tabbed out to do a little research on his tame and to do a little reading on the forums. Five minutes later, I tab back in and there he is - flying just out of reach. My heart pounding in my chest I mount, then dismount to set my trap, then mount again... I fly just high enough to fire off an arcane shot (almost a serpent sting in my haste!!) and fall gracefully to my perch on the tree. Ban'thalos glides slowly to my position, amping up for a moonfire bolt, only to be frozen in place by my waiting trap. The tame finished without a hitch and Ban'thalos had become my bonded.

Excited and encouraged by my recent tame, I decided to try my luck again for Kirix. Neither he nor the spiderlings were there, but Deth'tilac was ready and waiting! No hunters nearby, I shot off an arcane shot and began the arduous kite to tame. Another hunter had rode up and joined in almost immediately. We kited him back and forth, before a third hunter spawned on top of us to join the fight. All seemed to be going smoothly, when at 15% the third hunter began to tame him! Dismayed I watched at the timer depleted and Deth became my enemy, an alliance pet. I fired a few shots at the hunter in my anger and was promptly killed. My alliance DK offered a few words, conveying my frustration... nothing unreasonable, and ended up congratulating the hunter in the end. At least I have a timer now, she says...
I checked for my green spiders again - still no luck.
I left the Molten Front and headed back out to Hyjal. When I mounted up, I noticed a yellow dot on my map - probably just another Obsidium Node - but wait! It's moving! Frantically removing my armor, I rushed down to find Ankha recently spawned and prowling the area. I quickly began to tame, her swipes only tickling my armorless body. The sting of losing Deth'tilac had eased some, knowing Ankha had chosen to join me in his stead.

Another hunter stood by, watching the tame. He offered no words of congratulation nor words of scorn... He showed up just as I clicked my tame beast. Whether he felt robbed of the beast or felt nothing, was unclear. He mounted and flew off without saying a thing. I did feel somewhat guilty, especially after what had just happened with Deth'tilac, but the tame had already started when he dropped down on his drake.
Now to continue my search for the elusive Kirix. And names for my new beasts!
