I was on an alt out in the Molten Front and I saw Karkin up at the north spawn point. My horde hunter has been looking for him casually just to have a neat tank pet to do dailies with. Anyway I log over to my horde hunter, start heading out there. I've already told myself it's either gonna be dead or already tamed by the time I get out there so I'm not holding my breath. I get out there and low and behold Karkin is still just sitting there. There's an ally DK nearby, I don't think much of it. I get ready, shoot it, start casting tame beast, wait for him to start charging the pyroblast barrage thing, then hit deterrence and tame beast again....only to have the DK start attacking it and take aggro, thus fudging up my tame. I tried to save it by casting readiness but by then me and the DK were both dead.

So I have to wait 2 min on Deterrence to come back up. By now a few other hunters have showed up. A dwarf female has come up, I let her have her shot at it, she dies, unfortunately I die too from the aoe of the barrage thing. Now I have a min rez timer but my abilities are all off cd. The female dwarf tries again, only to die again and I get killed by the aoe again. Another hunter comes up that's in the same guild as the DK. He switches specs and goes about taming Karkin successfully, I was still dead (I just hadn't hit accept on the rez thing. I was watching the hunter tame him) and the female dwarf was dead too...none of the other hunters were trying so he got it fair game.

Anyway I switch back to my ally alt and whisper the DK kindly asking them next time a hunter is in the process of taming something to not attack it cause they took my aggro and possibly cost me the tame. They go on to say they were waiting for their guildy to get there to tame it (the hunter that tamed it successfully) and weren't gonna let anyone else tame it till he got there. I told them their guildy was nowhere nearby when I started the tame so I had a fair shot at it. They go on to tell me which is why they attacked it to stop my tame. I told him it was first come first serve (which they told me it was not) and I let his buddy get the tame off, I could have rezzed and killed it just to be rude but I believe in letting people get a fair shot, even if you are the other faction. If you die etc it's open to the next person to try. They also go about telling me you also have to know how to tame it, their hunter has most of the new rares etc, in which I reply my ally main has Karkin, Skarr and two of the spiders...I know how to tame it. They pretty much finally tell me they don't just let anyone have a shot at taming it and if something is up that a friend/guildy is after they will do whatever it takes to prevent other people from taming it (but not going as far as killing it, they won't kill it they said)

I'm not mad, like I said I was looking for it casually to begin with. I'm more just confused at this person's reasoning. I have had no trouble taming Kirix on both my horde and ally toon, My ally toon also got Deth'tilac on her first attempt so I've had some good luck with the new rares. I was mostly just confused cause this person purposefully messed up my tame so their guild mate could get it...and no one interfered with their tame. Like I told him I could have rezzed and started killing it or something but I let him have his shot at it, but to find out this person messed up my tame on purpose just makes me sad. I told them congrats on their guildy getting it and I wasn't trying to start anything but I'm still just confused.

Has anyone else come across this type of thing in their hunt?

I guess I find it weird that the DK didn't simply tag it first and just hold on to it, that he waited for you to start taming and then interrupted. Because if he at least had it tagged then I can maybe see him saying first come first serve?

But I have heard of similar stories before -for example a friend found one of the Northrend spirit beasts and tagged it, then asked me if I wanted it. When I said no he went down his friends list and asked each one if they wanted it. He held on to it for some twenty minutes, preventing anyone else from taming, until someone finally said yes and went out and tamed it. And I've had other people offer to do the same with other rare spawns.

That is a really *random swearing* move. I would say report for griefing, but you weren't actively camping it, so you can't say that in your ticket and they can't look back and see that you were.

From what others have said, and to avoid offending anyone, move on and hope he spawns again. I tamed him at the oddest of times out of sheer luck (thank you, Loki!) and wasn't even prepped for the tame.

I will sometimes that for a guild or rl freind but not a total stranger

I decided to sit out there around the respawn time in hopes that maybe Karkin would spawn again. Around 9:30 pm Skarr spawned. I decided to give my horde hunter a shot at taming him. Me and an ally hunter were taking turns trying to tame him. We both died from each others aoe of the barrage thing. When I got back to my corpse and rezzed a human lock was standing over his corspe I asked the ally hunter on an alt why the lock killed him and he said the lock didn't know we were trying to tame it. le sigh Back to waiting again...this time hopefully for a Karkin spawn. Just wish Skarr would have gone to one of us hunters and not killed.

To avoid barrage in the future, back away while he's casting it and/or feign death. Thats always worked for me each time I've watched a fail tame on those two.
