First attempt at a signature

So this is literally the first time I've ever used photoshop. I did this completely out of boredom while camping madexx, and ended up liking doing it. So.... How did I do? How can I improve?
Also I wanted to use the riding worg pet, but WMV doesn't show it right for some reason so I did the unarmored version.
Second go at it. (with suggestion from veph)

The more I look at the more I think its not horrible. Though I still think I'm bad heh.

Nice work!
My only critiques might be that the characters are a little hard to differentiate from the background. Some shadowing behind may fix this, or a backdrop that's a bit lighter. I'd recommend a pale shade for the font as well, the black is hard to make out against the dark. Perhaps a pale gold colour taken from your weapon to match? I like borders on signatures, but that's just my personal preference since I like the finished look it gives edges. ^^

Most of that stuff I'm not sure how to do, but with my current interest in this it's time to pull up some youtube tutorials on cs5.

Yeah that second one is much better, I really like the background you chose. Its neat

The second one is definitely a huge improvement on the first (which looked pretty good to begin with)! Maybe try a lighter outline (white, yellow?) for the hunter/pets?
