[Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!

I've been seeing an awful lot of this lately, for both sides. ^
Seen many alliance and horde kill rare spawns simply because "Didn't want the horde/alliance to get him" (Their own words when asked.)
I never realized people took this whole factions thing so seriously. :S I mean, we're all the same, we're all hunters here and we all just want to get that shiny rare. Why cause trouble because someone prefers to play a goblin instead of a human? An orc instead of a night elf?
A few nights ago I found Skarr and was holding off on dailies to find someone to come tame him. A worgen shows up, and so does a blood elf. I can't communicate with alliance without logging onto my alt, and the blood elf arrived first, so I explained the strat to her and she tried once, died. As she was running back to her corpse, a night elf warrior swoops in and kills him, nearly dying herself-- I was pretty pissed off at this point, explained to the belf that the cat had been killed, and logged over to alliance. As politely as I could, I asked the night elf why she killed the rare, while I was signalling for her to stop with various emotes. /no, /wait, etc. Her response? "Didn't want a hordie to get 'im."
I've seen various other people in general chats telling people to kill the rares when alliance are trying to tame, but that one with Skarr annoyed me the most, since I tried to get her to stop and someone only had one shot at taming..
Sadly, there's a member of my guild who thinks this way as well..it's pretty much: steal the tame if you can, and if an alliance gets close to it, it's dead.
I just don't get it.

People use faction differences as an excuse for griefing. It's an old story.

I suppose that would be the most likely reason.. 'So and so is the opposite faction, so they can't whisper me if I grief them.'

Yep. :/ And people are very fond of saying "that person is different from me!" and using that as an excuse to find fault. Therein lies prejudice.

Ack, Horde vs. Alliance seemed to suddenly spike in this patch. It's very annoying and makes you want to say, "Seriously? That's your excuse for killing a rare mob that people have spent days, weeks, or even months searching for?". Blizz needs to do something soon.

Eh, I don't know. Blizzard seems to think the Horde and the Alliance got too comfortable around each other by the end of Wrath and took steps (both in lore and in-game) to separate the two races and elevate tension. The "They can't have it if I can't!" attitude is probably Working As Intended from their point of view.

Very true, Magli. It makes sense from an RP/design perspective. It's more of a sad reflection of reality's lack of tolerance.

Agreed
I never saw it much prior to the molten front, but now that there's a bunch of rares in high traffic areas it seems people are going a lil' crazy over it.

Just because blizzard made a lore-based war happen between NPC's doesn't mean we have to harass other players.

its not really harassment its having an advantage over your opposing faction. You are telling them Hay you cant have this pet it belongs to the Horde/Alliance. You can open a Ticket and say hay this guy killed a rare spawn i wanted and blizzard will basically in a nut shell tell you Yea and?

That is the opposite of what I'm doing, I help both horde and alliance tame pets almost every time I'm in the front doing dailies. I want people to -stop- doing that, and be a community to help eachother rather than "If I can't have this then it's dying."
And yes, going out of your way to upset someone, sometimes repeatedly, by taking things from them and laughing at them about it would be considered harassment.
"Unsolicited words or conduct which tend to annoy, alarm or abuse another person." Is the definition of harassment. Rare-stealing often times does one, or all three of those.

This.
While it sucks to lose something you want, in a game like WoW the best way to cope is probably to join the dark side and get even. In the past when allies have killed pets I was after, I'd organize a For the Horde to get my bloody revenge. And you know what? It was fun as hell.
Is it nice to kill rares to spite the opposite faction? No. Would I ever do that? No. Still though, faction wars are a pretty central theme in this game I think, and stuff like this just has to be taken in stride.

its not taking things from them you do not own that rare spawn. If you did your name would be under its name. you have to understand we cant always get what we want in this game simply cause we want it. Its a war based game things like this are common best thing to do is to not let it get to you and move on
now would i do this to another faction? Yes and i do do it to the other factions would i do this to my own faction? Nah i help them normally

The question at hand here is "what makes the hunters of the opposite faction any different than the hunters of your own faction?" The hunters you're helping, Rockso, don't have a claim on the rare any more than the hunters you're denouncing.

I have been on the same pvp server since early vanilla and where as I wouldn't kill someones rare, but I would kill someone simply for being alliance. It may seem silly but I'm fiercely loyal to horde and find it to be better in everyway even though I don't mind making alliance alts to play with friends. I've become a bit more passive in my old age and have lost the if its red its dead mantra, but if even rmotely angered like stealing my quest mobs I will not hesitate to blow every macro and blow somone up just because I can.
And I won't lie if its a rare I want bad enough and its an alliance taming it I will kill them, this has never happened though. I killed a lowbee for setting of my npc scan while camping too.

your right and if a horde comes and kills it wile im helping them tame it then so be it we move on to the next rare at least with that we can determine relatively when the rare spawn will spawn again. There is no point in getting upset over it. Its part of the game its Horde Vs alliance its been that way since warcraft

I'd like to think I'm above this, if someone tame steals from me I don't see a need for revenge. This topic isn't about me, as none of these rares that I've seen taken have been things I've wanted to tame, its the other people that I'm trying to help that I see upset.

You're missing the point I'm trying to make.

If no one owns the rare, then why are you trying to dictate who can tame it and who can't by killing certain people who you don't want to tame it?
If you really need to argue about it though I advise you go to another thread, I didn't start the topic to have a debate over what's right and what's wrong. It's simply, I see others getting upset over this, I see people being rude and I wonder what happened to the community.
And I would like to point out that this thread isn't about me, no one has upset me for about the last month over a rare, I'm just tired of trying to help people tame the rares and have people of the opposite faction kill things because they don't like the race we play.

you dint get upset huh? and as far as not wanting other factions to kill something you might want to switch games cause weather you like or not that's going happen in this game. Like i said there is no point in getting upset and or pissed off best thing you can do is move on

There's no sense in holding on to that frustration, no. As previously stated, this sort of thing is to be expected, especially in an MMORPG. It's extremely naive to anticipate otherwise. However, that doesn't make such behavior humane.
We're not going to solve humanity's problems here, obviously, but some of us are willing to make it a slightly more pleasant place to be. That's all.
