Ban'thalos and wings

Anj and I got into a small discussion. I was telling her how Olm's wings bothered me cause the tips bend unnaturally, like cardboard. She said something like "atleast it's not Banny's lights". Curious, I asked her to explain. She told me once that someone told her, in a dungeon group, to put Ban'thalos away because his wing animations were too distracting.
Now honestly, if it were me, I'd continue using him cause...well..it's my pet. I want to use him and he's a favorite of mine. Not exactly my problem if someone else is getting distracted by wing animations that really aren't that distracting.
I'd like to know how others would handle this situation.

if they ask very nicely, i would put it away for that dungeon. i normaly have 4 pets with me so changing is no problem.

I would gladly put him away if asked nicely. He is rather bright, so I can understand the issue. (One time Ankha was too bright and I had to put her away, even though no one has asked me to) And the group will just have to deal with the missing buff or a tank pet (if a diff ferocity pet isn't with me by some chance) cause I wouldn't be willing to run back to the stables to swap a pet out.

I love my Ban'Thalos and never had a complaint against him, but I run with guildies more often than not so I don't hear complaints. If I were to get someone who wanted me to put it in, I'd say something like ''Ban'thalos does my best dps'' and lie out of my ass. I don't really care what others think, you feign some silly excuse to not like my pet, I'll make up some silly excuse to keep him out. I'm nice until you piss me off, and telling me to get out another pet will piss me off lol..

Yeah, I've never actually had anyone tell me my pet is annoying them. The one time I put a pet away due to it being annoying was Ankha... it was in Lost City of the Tolvir during the daytime and she got so bright that I couldn't see anything but pure white pixels, totally couldn't see her details at all. Happened only once, but she was blinding me so badly I had to put her away. And I was the one who was bothered, no one else said a word to me. Hehe.

I'd put my Ban'thalos, Faith, away. It's one dungeon, I'm not hung up on amg not seeing her for a half-hour. She usually is anyway, Spirit Beast buff always seems to be covered in my groups. Even if it weren't, I'm not one to put cosmetics over someone else's ability to play the game....because yeah, in the wrong light, some of the Cata SBs ARE painful to look at, and I can't imagine what it's like in melee range. I have four other pets, I know how to use them.

I had someone complain about my FluffyYummz one time, said she was too big and to put her away. (my Yummiez is a dvlsrous...so ya...she is a hefty girl but I love her) And when the core hounds did the ground shake when they walked I was told my pet was ban from guild runs..lol.
But for the most part if people ask nicely I'll switch out.

I don't own Ban'thalos, but this. Having played melee classes I know what it's like to run with some derpy giant glowing bird in my face. It's worse than devilsaur butt. :P I don't normally have a problem but when I've got a headache and it's bright and glowy and distracting yeah, I might ask you to put it away.

If I was asked nicely, and there were no opinions to the contrary, and if I had another ferocity pet with me*, then yes I'd switch pets. Once.
*Typically I have one empty slot in case I run across something I like, a tenacity for tough solos, a cunning for outdoor trash, a ferocity for dungeons, and the last slot will contain whichever pet happens to strike my fancy at the moment - might be a 2nd ferocity pet that I can use in MM/SV spec, or maybe just something cool looking.

If someone asks nicely, I don't mind at all. Banny is a fantastic bird but the glow trail, flying and all the effects /can/ be a bit much. I know I don't use it around at least one person because she gets headaches from it. I often keep a back up ferocity pet with me anyhow. Banny's not going anywhere, putting him away for a wee bit won't kill me.

I would say that if it's from some issue that physically affects the person, like headaches, I'd put it away (though, I personally don't have Ban'thalos) if I was asked nicely (or as nicely as someone might be able to manage while being irritated by a headache!). If it was just cause it annoyed them, or something like that... I'd use what I wished. Only because I've had other people that had playstyles that annoyed me (that rogue who decides to pick up some random mob and start tanking it far from everyone else... or that hunter who seems to have aspect of the hawk macroed into EVERYTHING so that the damn screech happens CONSTANTLY!), and unless it's a direct risk to the run (ie.. say that roque is fighting some random mob, and then accidently pulls another pack while maneuvering or something..), I'm a firm believer of people have the right to do as they wish! Even if it annoys me... or someone else. If it's not intentionally trying to grief, let 'em be

Just curious about the cardboard wings...Olm and Ban'thalos have the same base model, along with all other owls, so the wings would technically be the same on any of them.

The wing glow is a bit annoying, probably why my Banny is laying around the stables since I tamed her.

Its just me cause i dont want to bug anyone else's experience but i ask if its ok if i use my flying pet (if i want to use it, i normally dont tame things that fly) and if they say its fine then i'll use it (such as Banny for the first few days after i tamed him, i was so enthralled by his wings lol) and if they find it to be annoying and ask me to then i change pets.... Yes they are our pets and we can decide how we want to use them and what to name them but its kind to change pets if asked because we do share the game with people who have dislikes for some models for more then just appearence

Really is based on the group I'm in.. If ask nicely.. I do not mind swapping out to a different pet. If ignorant.. I won't. Have not really been in a group that has been ignorant about my pets, but have been asked to swap because of noise or size. Most have been very considerate when asking.

Ban'thalos is a pretty pet, but it gives ME a headache when I see it on some other hunter in Orgrimmar (which is pretty bright on its own). The combination of the glow with the flapping made me quickly realize that Ban'thalos probably isn't a pet that I even want to go after. I work in a studio with fluorescent lights all day. When I get home, I already have a headache, and being around Ban'thalos just guarantees that the Advil that was barely working to begin with isn't going to end up helping at all.
I am pretty good at empathizing with others, and if I'm using a pet in a group that I even worry will annoy others (chimaera, devilsaur, anything flappy, anything unnaturally bright), I swap it out for something less ostentatious. After all, I'm not the only person in the world who works under fluorescent lights every day or works long hours or around noisy people/equipment, thus I'm not the only person in the world who could use one fewer headache. I personally don't feel that my desire to have one of my giant, glowy, flappy or noisy pets out justifies making someone else's night worse. At the very least, I would absolutely swap out a pet if someone asked politely. I'd swap it out without being asked...
All that said, I worry much less about using such pets in pvp. There's already so much going on, and chances are that the people annoyed by the pet won't be annoyed for long, because they'll either be dead or run off somewhere else. I just see it as much more of an issue in small groups where everyone is in close quarters for a prolonged period of time (instances, raids).

I only see it happen on Olm's model. when he slaps his wings, just when its bent before he's going up, it bends at a weird, unnatural angle.

They were all done in a nice manner so I had no problem dismissing and replacing Banthalos. But I like using him everywhere because he’s easy to track — sorta like having a “pc mouse pointer trail”

As for Olm’s “cardboard” wings, I’ve never noticed it until Jessibelle mentioned it. I’ve always looked at it as a stylized way of drawing wings in mid-flap.
Btw, Ban’thalos has gotten the most praises from random strangers among all my pets, ever.

While Ban'thalos' effects don't bother me, I can certainly see how they'd bother others, and if someone asked me politely to exchange him for another pet to spare them the headache, I'd do it. I love my other pets just as much, and I see no reason to cause unnecessary resentment.

When I first tamed Banny and showed him to my guildmates, my guild leader commented, "That has to be the most visually distracting pet ever."
I've never been asked to put him away, but then I'm hardly BM for dungeons. I only am if I am asked to bring bloodlust buff, so I'm using a core hound instead.
If I was asked to put him away I understand. If we need the same buff I got a red lynx that needs more love lately.
