2 pets I never expected to love

I tamed Karoma and a purple hyena last night.

I always thought I never wanted Karoma, I was always like eh... boring. But then recently as my roomate was working on his hunter (which he has had longer than me, so a veeeery long time) and he's been looking Skoll. I asked him if he wanted Karoma maybe. He said no he had to have Skoll so he could have a pair of awesome pets. The oil stained wolf which he named Negative, so Skoll would be Positive.

The more I looked at Karoma the more nostalgic I got about the days of vanilla wow for some reason. I think Karoma has actually grown on me more than Skoll which I thought was my A-#1 pet. I went to look last night because I was bored. She was there in one of the last spots I checked. I've never looked for her before so I guess it was just meant to be :)
Well also, I figured my roomate was too far away to get there in time so I tamed it but he showed up in TH just a minute or so later and I was like are you sure you didn't want it.... >.> because he hasn't been able to find a spirit beast so I felt a little guilty since this was like number 9 or 10 for me. Literally the only one I do not have is Banny and I can't bear to let go of any of them. I cycle through them. He just laughed and said too late now! Which is good because I love this pet. :p

And on the other hand we have the purple hyena. I am a creature of utility (for instance I WILL NOT tame a tall strider, they're cool and all but they're ability is just so underwhelming to me and I'm about to send my last fox which is the Ashtail skin packing too). If a pet doesn't have something super beneficial to my dps or basically being a Panzer tank I won't go for it. But for some reason hyenas have started to grow on me so I think I will give him a shot. He's very cute if nothing else.

It's interesting the way I'm watching this hunter's stables morphing from being strictly a trophy cabinet into something a little more personal.

Must be a wonderful feeling! I've never had a trophy cabinet hunter myself, but I can just imagine the warmth creeping in. :)

I adore Karoma and Skoll. And Ned (aka Lone Hunter). And Cyric (my old oil-stained wolf). I just love wolf pets. :D

Yeah, my stables were originally all about the usefulness of the special abilities (especially being a BM and all), but after a while, I started to go for the truly rare pets that nobody has, like a regular cat from WinterSpring, or a raptor which anyone can really go out and get without waiting for a spwn timer to go off. Truth is, we all sit around waiting for that perfect tame, feel great about it, and then we go to the capital city to show off our new pet, only to see about 3 or 4 of them when we land. The truly rare pets are the ones that nobody go for, lol. Don't get me wrong, i have tons of Spirit beasts, and rare tames, but every once in a while, I like to give the "Other" pets some love too :)
Personal Stables makes the Hunt more worthwhile.

That seems to be the thing about trophy pets - you get these shiny trophies, and then come to find out that everyone around you has the same trophy. Your trophy doesn't seem as shiny anymore, so you toss it in a cabinet, and that trophy you worked so hard for and felt so proud for sits there collecting dust. So then you remember the Pokemon card collection you used to have and love, and pull it out again. It's not nearly as shiny as that trophy, but it has a familiar feeling. You look around, and no one else has Pokemon cards anymore, and suddenly, you feel like there's a special something to these plain ol' cards.

Wow, that paragraph made no sense at all. I really need to get to bed.

I think what I was trying to say is, I've had trophy pets, too, but they felt empty to me, and I let them go (Loque'nahak, Aotona, Sambas). The ones that really matter are the ones that don't matter to anyone else.

Alright self, time for bed.

It totally made sense, great way of putting it. :)

Grats on your new pets Splaticus! I laughed at your hyena's name paired with your character's. I also LOVE your friend's idea for Negative and Positive, that's fantastic!
