Revenge of the Deth Strike

Normally, I’m not into posting taming stories, but this one is entertaining for anyone that has ever been griefed by someone while trying to tame a rare.

A few days ago, I was out in the Firelands doing my dailies on my Alliance Hunter (who had just hit 85 about 5 days prior) when my _NPCScan goes off saying Deth’Tilac was up. Even though I thought it was just another false alarm, I figured I’d check her spawn point anyways just to be sure. To my surprise, she was genuinely up, and no one was camping her even though it was the middle of the day.

So, I went and tamed a disposable spider from the nearby area, switched over to my Survival spec, and decided to have at it. Things were going extremely well. Black Arrow was proving to be a wonderful safety net, my traps were landing where they needed to be, and I had no problem rezzing my sacrificial spider. However, when Deth was at 60% health, a Death Knight appeared out of nowhere and started following me around. At first, he was just getting in my face, trying to stand in front of me and auto-follow me around. Then, when Deth got down to 40%, he got more aggressive and started doing the rude emotes like spamming /spit and /laugh and other annoying things in an obvious effort to annoy me and screw things up. Finally, at 20%, he decided he was going to go all out and attack her in an obvious effort to grief me. That ended up being pure stupidity on his part.

When I saw him start to go all out at 20%, I didn’t panic or start yelling at him in /whispers. Instead, I kept my eye on the prize and did the meanest thing I could do to a griefer when it comes to Deth’Tilac being at 20% or more: I hit Feign Death. This immediately cleared my agro, and Mr. Griefer was now at the top of Deth’s hate list. He was obviously surprised by this, and he wasn’t able to outrun the ensuing Deth Strike that she began to cast almost immediately on him. Meanwhile, I got up almost immediately after I hit Feign Death (just long enough to see the crossed swords fade) and fired an auto shot at her so she wouldn’t reset when Mr. Griefer dropped dead at her feet. I also managed to land an Ice Trap at her feet just as she finished Deth Striking Mr. Griefer, and followed it up with a Concussive Shot. From there, I tamed her free and clear.

The story doesn’t end there, though. When Mr. Griefer got back to his body and saw my victory, he immediately started laying into me in /whispers calling me a “Mother ****er”, and “You’re a complete and total ***hole”, and my personal favorite “how dare you **** me over that way”. I found this quite amusing, and just to add insult to injury, I renamed my new pet so that it matched his name with the word “fails” attached at the end. This made Mr. Griefer even angrier, and launched a profanity-laced set of /whispers to me that culminated in him making promises of WoW and Real-Life threats. At that point, I just put him on /ignore and referred his temper tantrums to the GM’s for whatever they want to do to him.

Anyways, when all was said and done, I ended up with a shiny new purple “hot rod” spider that I later decided to rename Dethklok. I really wanted to call her Deth’Klok, but Blizzard doesn’t allow apostrophes when renaming pets. As for Mr. Griefer, I haven’t seen or heard from him since, nor do I really care to. As far as I’m concerned, he got what he deserved, and gave me a good, long laugh in the process. Anything the GM’s do to him is icing on the cake at this point :)

This is one of the best stories I've read! That is hilarious. Good job on keeping a cool head and giving Mr DK his just desserts while getting your rad spider :D Thank you for sharing this tale!

This has got to be one of the best stories I have heard lately.
Brilliant!
And I hope that guy enjoyed his last time on WoW. From my understanding, making real life threats is a perma-ban plus Blizzard getting police involved. I heard they take threats very seriously, (as they should).
But for you, congrats on a well played tame!

Sadly, That's the nature of griefers. They don't much care about who's side they're on, they just lie to cause Pain and suffering. In fact, It's my theory that they believe that they Need to Grief and feel as though they're entitled to do it. They have no self-respect so of course they have no respect for others and Griefing is the only way they can find any worth in their own lives.

On my Server, There's this Infamous Ganker who was Horde for many years and even spent their whole Day Griefing anyone who they could. After Cata, They Faction changed to alliance because (and I quote) "There are more People to gank."

OMG, awesome story!

What a stupid DK. How exactly did you screw him over? He committed suicide if you ask me... and its not like he woulda got a shiny epic out of it or anything anyways, so I don't understand why he got so upset. (Lets not forget you did all the work from the start anyways, he just took 10% of Deth's health when he got stupid lol)

And congrats on your well earned Deth :D

I'm glad you all enjoyed the story, I figured it would give a good laugh to anyone that's been griefed in the past. As for Serenith's question on how I "screwed him over", hell if I know. The only thing that makes any shade of sense in my mind is that he was screwed out of making me miserable by denying me something I was working on. Outside of that, who knows.

Hard to believe he got upset over the 25g tear, considering you can make more than 100g or more in about 20 minutes worth of dailies. He either thought the spider dropped an epic or he was really pissed that he couldn't succeed in griefing you.

Well, considering he didn't get there until she was at 60%, and that he didn't start attacking it till 20%, I doubt he wanted to kill it for a piece of 25g vendor trash. He might have been able to Kill Steal it after I feigned death, but he was taken by surprise when I did that to him. And, he made no mention about being screwed out of an epic, so I believe he was out to grief me plain and simple.

Ha! What a loser! Serves him right for being a crusty little bunghole like that. Maybe he'll think twice about screwing with someone that can dump all aggro, leaving the griefer with a giant angry paintrain gnawing on their head.

I love her name, by the way. My hubby would definitely appreciate it, too. ;)

Awesome story!

I love her name and I'm glad that jerk got what was coming to him. I really just don't get some people. I haven't met anyone that doesn't know about the "Hunter Challenges". I think the only thing you 'screwed' was him being a giant pile of doody. And I'm very glad you did! :D
