Trimming the stables

This will probably sound silly since I'm only level 41 and have eight pets, but I think I need to let some of them go. I went on a bit of a taming spree between 30 and 40 and ended up taming things that I didn't really feel pulled to, or just because I've had them in the past.

I already let Anabelle go. She was a spider I tamed (Darkmist Broodqueen, specifically) in Dustwallow Marsh. I never used her and after only a couple days, I decided to let her go. I love spiders but this one just really did not suit Ariela, and I don't think any spider will.

The other three I'm thinking of cutting loose are: Chauncey, my raptor; Boris, my scorpid; and Ysolde, my wind serpent.

Chauncey seemed like a special tame at first, but after the excitement of seeing Takk in the wild and taming him wore off, I was left with a raptor that I never use. I really can't get into raptors on any character so far (but then, I keep making elven hunters, too). There's something about him that just doesn't seem right with Ariela. Raptors have such a harsh and primitive look to them (IMO), and it just really does not suit Ariela.

Boris was a tame on a whim. He's just a regular Scorpashi Snapper that I found out in Desolace. We had fun for a little while and I even took him into a couple of battlegrounds with me. But, again, he just doesn't really suit Ariela. He has a personality and I like his name, but they just seem like a very mis-matched pair and I can't get that out of my head. Besides, when I PvP, I almost exclusively use Pierre (my monkey). I do like the disarm ability, but I would much rather have it on a white eagle when I reach that level.

Ysolde is my favorite wind serpent model, the white old-world model one. The mob that I tamed is Hayoc from Dustwallow Marsh. I make it a point to get him on every hunter (this time I made it a female). But, just because something's tradition doesn't make it right for everyone. Ysolde is beautiful and graceful, but that's about as far as her appeal goes. She has no personality and I rarely use her. As much as I love this model and family, it just isn't right for Ariela.

I think what really instigated this was that I started to feel like I was getting too much, too fast. I don't want Ariela to be a pet collector. I want each and every pet to be special and mean something, but lately I was just taming things because they looked neat or because I liked them on other hunters. I want Ariela to have her small group of companions, a family, that she can call upon and depend on. I don't want her to have a zoo or a menagerie, and that's what I was starting to feel like.

I can relate. I just did this on my hunter, cutting down from 20 pets to 11 or so. It's really stress relieving, honestly, and it's nice to see such a clean stable.

This led me to go on a cleaning frenzy on Rhyela and a nearly-forgotten alt hunter, Niara. Rhyela only cut two, while Niara cut out about, oh...six or so pets?

I've been going through stables trimmings as well >_< It can be hard but I've tamed some other pets that I love and use so much more, like my wind serpent Lucas. :)

Regarding the amount of food we could get from one of those, i would choose Chauncey. Moreover, food from raptor feeds more than others.

I need to cull my stables too, but I just love all my pets (except perhaps red Madexx, but I feel sorry for it) and can't bear to part with any! I also can't force myself to level another hunter. One is enough, thanks. I don't want to go through spamming *insert shot type here* another 85 levels. How can you guys do it and level multiple hunters!?

For me, each new hunter brings a new life, a new character, a new stable theme of pets. For me it's not just "oh make another hunter to tame a bunch of rares I couldn't fit on my main" or something like that; each one of the hunters I make ends up having their own personality and grouping of pets that makes them unique. It offers me the great chance to collect pets I never thought I would want and keep things mixed up. :)

Rhyela will always be my main hunter, and very rarely can I play another hunter without feeling like it's just a cheap wannabe of Rhyela. That said, I took a long break from the game and decided that if I ever came back, I'd play Horde. A blood elf fit with a story I had made in my mind, so I went with it. But I'm not one of those ones that can have a gajillion hunters, either.

Yeah. Tylendil has the most story of any of my characters, and is my RP "main" while my playing main is my hunter. I adore blood elf mages and just think they have so much potential for storylines. My undead mage, my other blood elf mage, and my human mage will just never be anything but cheap imitations of Tylendil. It doesn't stop me from leveling them and getting free epics on them when I can, though. If I ever type up Tylendil's whole story, it would be about 100 pages long in MSWord, maybe longer. He's got a history that started at level 1 in BC, when I was still on an RP server. As I leveled him throughout Cataclysm, I was sort of making up his Cata storyline as I went along, so his story didn't stop just because I transferred off an RP server.

I manage several hunters by making them very different characters. Rassaa, my main, is my most "me" character. She's got a personality that I just find fun, and it's easy to imagine her reactions to things. Vallrok is another hunter of mine, a troll. He's so incredibly weird that you *must* know his backstory to have any idea what he is. I just love him because of it. It's not like playing Rassaa.
My hunters just end up like that - they somehow develop personalities and then they just bloom. They're not a bunch of carbon copies at all!

Had the same problem on my old hunter. All spirit beasts and used only Skoll and Loque. With this one I will tame only the pets I really love. ^^
