Competitive Pokemon Metagame & EVing

Anyone into competitive battling? I've recently gotten into the competitive scene over this summer, mostly just playing around with a few friends. So far I have four 100s fully trained, and one 31 who is EV trained, just have to level him up now. I also have two 100s that are not EV'd, just waiting for a time to use those berries and get them up there.

Current Fully Trained Pokemon:

Panic (female Gengar) @ Light Ball
Timid
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Focus Blast, Substitute, Pain Split, Shadow Ball
HP: 257
Atk: 136
Def: 138
SpA: 350
SpD: 156
Spe: 343

Fumble (female Dragonite) @ Life Orb
Jolly
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe (HP IV)
Dragon Dance, Outrage, Earthquake, Fire Punch
HP: 320
Atk: 340
Def: 226
SpA: 192
SpD: 210
Spe: 264

Smooch (female Blissey) @ Shed Shell
Calm
252 Def / 252 SpD / 4 HP (HP IV)
Protect, Softboiled, Ice Beam, Toxic
HP: 650
Atk: 26
Def: 109
SpA: 158
SpD: 379
Spe: 129

Jet (male Umbreon) @ Leftovers
Careful
252 HP / 128 SpD / 128 Spe
Mean Look, Moonlight, Taunt, Baton Pass
HP: 378
Atk: 146
Def: 226
SpA: 127
SpD: 333
Spe: 178

Jet needs a complete rehaul, his attacks are not what they should be... his speed is too low to be of any use, so I'm most likely going to be changing his EVs around at some point as well, after Trollface & Boomer are both finished.

In Progress Training:

Trollface (31 male Wobbuffet): 200 Def / 56 SpD / 252 Spe
Boomer (55 male Tyranitar): 252 HP / 60 Atk / 176 SpA / 20 Spe
Neptune (1 male Vaporeon): 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Purity (100 suicune): 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Zero (100 shiny jirachi): 252 HP / 224 Def / 32 Spe

~

So, anyone into this stuff? It's a lot of work, but its a TON of seeing what these pokemon can do. Feel free to post your competitive teams here. Smogon is a great site for anyone who is new to this, Serebii has a section on it as well as a rate my team spot. :)

I was trying to competatively raise my pokemon for a bit, but kind of fell out of it due to lack of time. It is something I really enjoyed doing, and I love having pokemon battles. I guess I'll have to dust off my DS and see what I can come up with.

I think I have a team or two, but not sure if I finished their movesets yet.

It really is fun, if you get back into it we should exchange friend codes and battle!

I havn't done much training, I took a break to play through some of SoulSilver, plus my boyfriend, two of my friend and I have picked up our old game boy colours and are playing through the original games together to complete our pokedex! So that has kinda take up a lot of my time :D

Er, if I happened to have Pokemon White and a patience to do so, I would. Although I've heard it's easier to grind in Black and White then it was in SoulSilver/HeartGold. No AR either. XD

I havn't trained at all in BW, I havn't even beat the League D: All my training has been done in Diamond so far. :) Its not so bad, I can fully train a pokemon in 1.5-2 hours which includes slacking off and getting distracted haha. Its just getting them to 100 thats time consuming.

All my FC's are listed in my signature :)
Most of my teams have all been transfered to my white version, So I guess I should do some training in a diamond compatable games...Probably my platinum. I'll get started on choosing a team tonight :)

Lv grinding was made so simple in B&W with shaking grass and Audino's massive exp for defeating it.

Well, got my team EV trained, going to see about getting them to lv 100 tonight. It took a bit to find the right nature/personality combo for my pokemon, I just hope the IV's are in my favoure.

I used to do a ton of EV training, breeding for IVs, and competitive battling months ago. I never leveled my pokemon up after I EV trained and learned all their moves however, as PBR levels all your pokemon to level 50 for online battles anyways.

I lost interest after I lost my copy on PBR during moving, and it was still $50 to buy the game used, which I was not going to pay that.

Probably my Kyogre was the hardest pokemon I worked on. I caught him over and over until I got a timid nature with perfect speed and special attack IVs then EV trained him. He's as fast as a Kyogre can get with his choice scarf, and we know how annoying choice scarfed, water sprouting Kyogres are in doubles.

He's not my favorite though. My rain dance team was so overpowered that it was boring and I rarely used them online. My favorite team was a doubles team that lead with Kangaskhan and Gengar for a fake out + hypnosis combo, then focus the pokemon that wasn't asleep.

I think my main issue for competative batteling is that I am not that good at stratagy...I am use to a "hit them hard and hit them fast" playstyle. Try to kill the befre they kill me. I am trying to learn to play a bit more statigically...

I should get back into competitive battling, there wasn't much point seeing as how my DS lite was incompatible with our wireless router. Now that i've got a 3DS I can actually connect and do stoof. X3

I totally haven't connected with gen 5 at all, I wouldn't know 80% of their names, let alone their types and movepools.

I am with you Felidire. When it comes to the 5th gens, I havent been able to remember about 80% of thier names. Those that I do remember are the ones I primarily use, or are the "in your face" pokemon like the cover legendaries and Victini, and patrats...

1 thing about 5th gen competitives:

Watch out for Excadrill.

Even excadrill can be countered by a number of pokemon if sandstorm can be removed.
It has a 2X weakness to Fire, water, fighting and ground.
Both fire and water can bring about rain or sunny day to boost their own atk/speeds depending on what you use.

I decided to go back and check the current Pokemon I have on SoulSilver version and... I think their natures suck. D: I'm not sure what the ideal natures are for them all, but a lot of them had natures that gave no stat change. Ballocks. Is there an AR code that changed natures? oO Just curious cause I want an AR.

well, as far as I know there isnt a code to change existing pokemons natures, but there are codes that make wild pokemons natures to what you want them to be. I usually just do a google search for what I am looking for, code wise.

I find this site is pretty simple and quick to look at when deciding what nature/personality are good for my pokemon. nature/personality
And I like Marriland's site for finding a pokemons strong/weak stats and move pools. And finally Smogon for their strat guides for all pokemon.

Well at least you can spawn the Pokemon you want. XD Although should I ever get an AR, replacing half these Pokemon is going to be a pain in the ass. D: -toddles off to do more research-

Even without AR, I can still hold my own in competitive play quite well, and always try to run a balanced team with effective movesets and synergies.
If you want to get the thread rolling again, why not host a competitive tournament? I remember playing in one on a forum that I was banned from a few years ago, they made a handful of rules and then used a random pokemon generator to determine everyone's team, and then gave everyone 4 weeks to train and have everything battle-ready before it starts.

I dunno if we'd have enough people interested for something like that, though. x3

With a little practice, it's actually quite easy. ^^

ooohhh, I like that Idea Felidire!! To have a team selected for you, at random, and then to try to make it work, that'd be an awsome chellange!!

It was pretty fun. I remember having a drowzee, dusknoir, and a horrible beedrill with endeavour/quick attack. xD
