I can understand. I keep culling mine; those that I don't love, don't feel close to, don't have stories for, they go after I've given them time. Let them find another hunter who'll love them.

I wish I could do this - would stop me worrying over what I will do when 4.3 hits >_> Problem is, I can name all 25 of my pets, and they all have stories and mean alot to me :S They also mean alot to my friends, who are always asking how 'so-and-so' is etc, and when I considered releasing some to tame others there was up-roar xD I only have 1 lvl 85 hunter though, and none others even half of that :?

Oh well, goes to stable to stare at any possible 'victims' of 4.3

Good call Teigs. ^^ I definitely know where you're coming from, though I couldn't do it for Veph. While there are definitely 'tiers' of attachments I have to her pets, the vast majority are actually really important to her. I only have maybe 5-7 that are slightly less bonded. I might be able to let them go or exchange them for other pets in the future, but I'm definitely beyond the limit of 5 now.

Oh wow, I could never do that! I can understand wanting to only have that select few that you're really attached to but I love all the pets I have right now. Right now I think my stable is pretty much perfect. I've released some to make room for another but I've gone back and gotten my favorites again several times. Last night I had to release my new rhino, Baby (from the random pet challenge), because I stumbled upon Blue Maddex. As gorgeous as the scorpion is I'd rather have my Baby so I released Maddex and went and got my Rhino back tonight.

Jeez, Teigs! XD I could never, ever do that. I can't even bring myself to release rares I haven't even bonded with. [Well, okay, I DID release Anthriss to tame Karoma, but I really wanted Karoma. >.>]

Teigan wrote:As nice as it is to have all these stable slots, I've noticed something unpleasant about it. I really don't have a bond with most of these pets. They sit in the stable, bored and unloved. I remember when I could name all my pets. They each had personalities and stories. Now, I have so many I don't know who they are or what their names are without looking.

And QFT - I think back in Vanilla / TBC we (those of us who started back then) sort of took it for granted that we bonded so strongly with the 3-5 pets we were allowed, but now that that limit's been quintupled, things are changing, and not all for the better - and you summed it up perfectly Teigan.

I could probably do this, though maybe not by reducing it down to five. I might have to go somewhere between six and ten. But most of my pets, I never use. I have my special few that go with me wherever I go, and that's about it.

In fact, I reduced Ariela's stable down to four. I had gotten up to about eight and was beginning to feel that I was just collecting pets for the sake of collecting them, so I let about half of them go. I was very glad when I did; it was like a relief, somehow.

I've found it's somehow much more fun to play a hunter with only a few pets. My hunter has 11 and that's way too many, I'm going to lower that as much as I can.

I had a lot of fun purging my stables of the borderline pets and replacing them with ones who bond. :) Good idea!

I try to swap out my pets every couple of days having it so that I play with all I have in the stables for a couple days each. If there are any that I just don't like, I release them back. Because of this I have 4 slots available as I'm happy now with the ones I have. I find it good changing them out often and playing with different ones throughout the week.

Being a raider in a 10 man guild that rotates people, I need a lot of buff/debuff pets so I couldn't cut back too much.

On Wassa I could drop all my other tallstriders (I just wanted to collect all the other skins but never use them), silithid, vulture, owl, warp stalker and moth for pets I don't really use, but some like my owl I am so attached too. =( I did just release my fox and just retamed her on a new alt.

I could easily drop most of Ptay's pets as I just found myself collecting white pets. Six of them I use often because I'm bonded or they have useful abilities; the others can go.

My horde hunter's stable is very much a "trophy case". I had a goal to tame all of the spirit beasts, 4.2 rares, and a number of other rares. I got everything I wanted to and feel obligated to keep those pets. On my new hunter I am hoping to not follow that path. Now I know which rares are my favorites - which ones I'll want to re-tame. But I want this stable to have a lot more common skins and more "personality". Tonight I'll be clearing out all but 5 or so on m ally hunter.

Sorry to bump this thread up but I just did this on Rexiah. I found it liberating. I trimmed Rex down to 15 pets from a full 25. I may release more. I now will be taking a look at my other hunter's stables and probably trimming them down.

I think I have 5 or 6 pets that I'm not attached to, rares that I tamed because of OMGRARE impulses and such. But in general I do care about the majority of my babies. Especially my scorpids! I'm looking oh-so-very-forward to finally being able to use them as tank and dps pets in Mists. :headbang:

I have some pets I don't use, but that I really love the looks of or that took me forever to finally tame but I just didn't bond with them (Magria, Skoll, Brilliant Macaw, a few others). I can't get rid of them because I like them, but I'm just not...well, in love or whatever, with them. It also took me forever to get Brilliant Macaw, even though I wasn't camping him personally, so I won't abandon him. I wish I could trim down my stables. I want to do the pet challenge thingy in Show and Tell, I love doing it, but I've done all my pets.

I know exactly how you feel I have maybe 4 that I wouldn't give up for the world, about 6 (including the 4) that I'm extremely close to and have a story behind and the rest are there for their skills or just a rare I happened upon. I might clean out the ones I don't use or care about when MoP comes out but for now I couldn't bring myself to it.
