Incase you guys did not catch it, along with the hunter talent explanations, they also mentioned "Pets can also be specced into any of the 3 trees, so if you want a bear to DPS, you can!" something like that!
1 step closer to my envisioned hunter petopia! now lets pray they add the option to actually choose what ability your pet learns!!!!!!!!!!1

My reaction after reading that: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. NOW MORRIGAN CAN BE USED AS A DPS SCORPID AND BLINDEYES CAN BE USED AS A TANKING PET, AND SNOWPAW CAN BE USED AS A PVP PET. (Morrigan=Tank, Blindeyes=PVP, Snowpaw=PvE)

Actually, to be fair, he said they weren't SURE, but that they were looking into trying to make it so we could spec our pets into any tree.

This is something that I thought should've been added years ago. I even remember making a big long post on the forums about why they should, but it was since moved to a part of the forum I couldn't see.
I really hope they go through with this, finally then people *will* be able to use whatever pet they want. I mean, I will seriously start using like my warp stalker just for fun now. Heck, tenacity spirit beast? Oh god yes...

i kno, i think you guys are conspiring against me, i suggested it twice on here, and i get shuunned for the idea! and now that blizzard mentions it, everyones happy! im seriously overjoyed if it becomes true, it bothered me that rhinos and boars are so underused, first they get crappy debuffs, but then, then they get shoved into tenacity, to make it worse

next to the minimum range thing, i'd say this is probably the second most requested thing from hunters.
and honestly, they should have done it years ago. this is over due, so here's hoping that at long last it comes true

In fairness, rhinos will still kind of suck, regardless of tree, simply because they bring a bleed debuff for a spec that doesn't need a bleed debuff. On the plus side, they'll be a viable raiding buff option.

I, for one, am thrilled just by them CONSIDERING to do this since I've wanted to customize your pets' trees for a long time. It always kind of bothered me that Blizzard was trying to promote pet diversity instead of the old standbys of cat, wolf, and so on, but nothing really changed even in the newest incarnation.
This, I feel, is a possible step in the right direction (provided they go through with it).
However, there will ALWAYS be favored pets if family skills continue to play a heavy roll. While I know they bring flavor to the pet type, I wouldn't miss them if they were gone. Why? Because most of the pets I -want- to use (Dogs and Warp Stalkers, for example) are not really viable in PVE because of their family skill. Most buff pets I find little use in using since, honestly, almost every group I've been in has had a class that could cover the more "mandatory" buffs you'd need in a dungeon or raid.
Is this the case for everyone? Certainly not, since I can only speak for myself. Though I still feel that the best way to promote more pet diversity is to get rid of family skills and have choosable skills (sort of like the new tier trees we're getting in MoG) to add further customization. So you could have a cat with a Furious Howl-like buff or a scorpid with a slow or whatever. I can't say if this is the best way, but it's just an idea nonetheless.
But, even then, I know I'd be more than fine with just having choosable pet talent trees so I could bring my warp stalker with me EVERYWHERE.

haha yea they do, im hoping they completely redesign the pet abilities anyways, maybe just generalize their abilities so none of them are "useless" like maybe so many pets have a snare, so many a stun, so many an interupt, so many a shield wall, or so many a slow, that way, we avoid the feeling of cats of wolves being forced EVERY EXPANSION, and completely making some pets useless, i.e boars, bears, tallstriders, foxes
because lets look at it, Cats need +bleed, so they have mangle, Sub rogues need bleed, so they have Hemo, Arms(?) need + Bleed, so they have Trauma, the +bleed is only helping, fury warriors, and 2 rogue specs, o and our 1 marksman bleed
and every tank in the game has ATK Slows and DMG reduction, making bears foxes and tallstriders completely useless in any situation, spare from having sweet looking pets
so all this "junk" they kept talking about during the panel, makes me hope that they will hopefully remove the "junk" from our pets, i just hate carrying a wolf and cat around because i feel forced to!
(its not that i dont like them, its because it makes me feel like im cookie cutter spec)

Yeah, I'm on board for the pet skill thing.
I love nether rays. I love them SO HARD. And that spell interrupt? Pretty damn useless, since it's on the GCD.
On the other hand... Feroc Windserpents and Dragonhawks...mmmm.

I'd be in trouble if we were able to give a web equivalent to any of our pets. I don't think I could give up Orpheus after all these years, but Ursa would love to PvP for real...he's done it before!
Buff juggling would just be...I don't even know. Like say as a bear, Ursa could take a bleed debuff, ap debuff, or agi/str buff as his "family" ability. He could only have one, but he'd have options. All that's really required (well, aside from the ability to choose being coded, sigh) is more window dressing, making the options all fit the family's description (much like dash becomes dive for flying pets).
Just throwing that out there. Pets wouldn't have to have free reign, but we'd get to pick what we wanted. I wonder just how much our stables would shrink then...
