I was trying for over an hour an a half to tame Kirix but he kept evading or my tame would finish casting but he would just not become my pet. Four times my tame beast cast successfully finished and I was alive but just nothing happened, he stayed a hostile mob. Only once did I mess to where he stunned and killed me. This is beyond pissing me off. Has this happened to anyone else?

I finally got him using a corehound and the disengage method. He bugged out too much with the rock one. This spider is a really a$$hole lol!

Indeed he is. Earlier today I watched a warlock try and kill him. Lets just say that that didn't happen. Kirix always wins... I guess the funny part was this lock tried like 5-6 times before he announced that he was up to hunters in general chat.

It's always very amusing seeing people try and kill that spider.

Here's the little brat who gave me so much trouble. It doesn't show in the pictures but I named him Vermont (with a funny n) because it means green mountain and it's a special place to me. I'm going to keep him and alternate between him and Anthriss by taming them/releasing each time I see them. My Anthriss, Aranea, is my favorite lava spider but she's always up and is an easy tame. I could release Deth but he's harder IMO and the competition for him is still very high. I just went through so much trouble over Vermont so I'm goona keep the little bastard. He is really pretty!


Since I found him mid dailies I figured I might as well make him help me finish since he cost me almost 2 hours of my time. Do the lava spiders just have really big webs or is it the size of the mobs?? They certainly aren't this big in bg's but I wish they were.


And, of course, we run into none other than Skitterflame. It's the first time I've ever seen him and want to tame him eventually but I was in no mood after the frustrating hours spent on Kirix.

Yeah, when I was questing in the Molten Front, I'd always help other hunters tame Kirix if he was up. I advised the disengage method, but many people seemed to like the rock method. It took much longer for them to tame though because of the glitching.

I used the rock method but the haste buff cut the tame beast time in half. I actually think the Kirix tame is more complicated either way you do it, cause if it isn't timed just right he stuns you. I died more times to him, compared to my one death to Deth. The reason I think the challenge for Deth is hard is that it usually takes 5-8 minutes (with sacrifices of course) and all that time you are fighting him, people take note and thats what screws you up more. The actual method is much easier I think.... he has died too many times cause people interfered.

I did the disengage method as well- but didn't have a corehound. I had a potion of speed and a lightening elixir which worked very well for me! Just lined myself up along the ledge and as soon as he punted me I disengaged at the height of the punt, and hit my macro which used my potion, cast deterrence, and then started tame beast. Good luck!

Edit: Just saw that you had successfully tamed him later on in the thread- GRATS!

I think the rock method still works fine. I just rehomed him two days ago to a nice hunter. She died 3 times trying to get to the rock with the windbuff, but once she was there I pulled out my corehound and the tame went off without problems. I always recommend to use the rock at the end of Kirix' path to the left of the "rock stairs" you need to jump to reach Fireplume - not the single rock. I already posted pics of this rock in an other thread, so you can look it up there if you are not sure.
And congrats that it worked out with the disengage-method, I always am too nervous to try this one out

i found whenever i would pull him with a shot to attempt the tame on the rock, he would evade.

if you pull him with "tame beast" then cancel, det/tame etc, it works just fine (at least it did for me)

Use whatever method works for you. Some people click well with one or the other. Neither makes you a boss unless you are in fact, managing the spider in which case his salary is probably in bugs or steaks.
