Question about Transmog

I saw a Level 40 Druid wearing the BoA cloth armor (based off the Dreadmist Warlock tier set) and the BoA staff and she transmog'd them to look like the Season 10 Vicious Gladiator's Felweave -enter item name here-. Her staff was transmog'd to look like the Staff of Arlokk. How's this possible? I thought your character had to own these items to get it yet these are lvl 85 items. With the Season 10 gear being bought with honor points, i could see her farming all the honor required to buy the headpiece, shoulder piece, and chest piece that she had her character portraying but the staff comes from the Zul'Gurub dungeon which shes 40 levels too low to even possibly enter with friends, or is it possible to transport her in? Very unlikley though and very unlikely she would take the time to farm 6050 honor points for cloth items when she is a druid and that she will be replacing all her cloth armor for leather.

You can't transmog cloth if you wear leather. Smells of hacking.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. You can transmog cloth to look like cloth and both sets in question are cloth. This just means that they farmed the honour on their main and transmogged it there, seeing as how they're BoAs, and transferred them over. And if their main had the staff, it's another case of something BoA being transmogged and then transferred.

I'm not sure if you can mail something transmogged or not, but it looks like in this case, they were able to. (Might not be working as intended?)

But the character is a druid. Druids should only be able to transmog leather. But you're right; that's likely how it was done - and if the main is a clothie, then that would make perfect sense.

The druid was wearing cloth. There's no rule saying that a druid has to wear leather. A plate wearer can wear cloth, leather, mail, or plate; a mail wearer can wear cloth, leather, or mail; a leather wearer can wear cloth or leather -- but a clothie can only wear cloth. If this character is a caster druid, then the cloth is probably better for them, stat-wise, than the leather.

Sure, under level 50.

But that's not what I'm talking about.

I was under the impression that you could only transmogrify gear that was of your primary armor class type. Is that not the case? Can a hunter transmog cloth pieces, but not transmog their mail armor into cloth?

Aside from this little workaround with BoAs, there's not much point in doing that.

It's not a matter of your character's armour class. All that matters is that you transmog cloth to cloth and mail to mail and so forth. And there might not be much point to doing it, but there's not much point to not doing it, either. If everybody can transmog every armour class they can wear, it keeps people from whining.

Here's proof that it's possible. Made sure my "I am a hunter" portrait is visible in the second one.

Ahh, I misunderstood then - thanks for clarifying!

I just don't get the point of transmogging two pieces that you wouldn't wear in combat anyway. I mean, you have both to begin with and you're only going to be wearing them under RPish circumstances...aside for players under level 50, I suppose. Eh. :)

Honestly, I don't get the point, either. I'm too busy wishing I could transmog every one of my helms, ever, to my beloved Clever Hat.

Exactly! Or the lowbie engineering goggles. :( Stuff like that!

Transmorging lower armor classes certainly doesn't make much sense at level cap. But while leveling it can work for certain classes/specs. E.g. in the case of a druid, if she's resto or balance she may still be doing fine in cloth gear for pure levelling purposes. She just shouldn't go tanking in it.

Still, I think this may not be working as intended. When transmorg was announced Blizz specifically said they wanted to make sure that lowbies don't run around in tier sets. So I guess the BoAs are a loophole that will probably get fixed soon (e.g. by having mailing clear transmorg effects).

Yea i have no idea if she transmogged the items and mailed them, she popped in at the last boss when our healer left and she was wearing Cloth BoA not Leater BoA. I thought BoA was supposed to be un-transmogrible anyways but seeing her, thats definityly not the case, for now

Heirlooms are supposed to be transmog-ible, but I thought mailing them was supposed to wipe transmogs.

Ya, you can "mog" heirlooms. However Blizz said mailing them would un "mog" the items. May be they found a loophole to keep the change.
