I decided to make a thread on my mount collection progress. I'm not really trying for any achievements, but collecting mounts has become something I enjoy doing in game. I will feature certain mounts I love, and take lots of screenshots. My collection isn't as large or as complete as some of yours, but I'm pretty proud of the ones I do have!

The inspiration to start this thread was my finally looting the Reins of the Raven Lord - a mount I have been farming nearly daily for roughly six months (I don't have an accurate count, since I only started killing the last boss recently and I also took a nine month break from the game in the middle). I figured that I might as well record my collection, and have a place to talk about my triumphs and frustrations.

My two favorite ground mounts just happen to be blue (which doesn't match my armor... oh well).

I finally got my Raven Lord during lunch this afternoon - I had gotten in the habit of logging in while eating and doing a Sethekk run, then logging out. It took me countless runs to get it (I don't know the actual number, since I didn't know to kill the last boss until a few weeks ago), and boy am I sick of seeing the Boots of Righteous Fortitude. I was getting very frustrated towards the end, because it seemed like I was seeing this mount everywhere - PVP, the Darkmoon Fair, raids, the achievement popping up in guild chat, in cities, etc. Anzu was taunting me!

To me this mount looks like a feathered raptor, and being the dinosaur nut I am, this makes me very happy.



My other favorite mount is the Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank. I worked so long and hard on archaeology to get it, but in the end, I was very lucky with my drop rate - it was my third Tol'vir rare, and my 42nd Tol'vir solve.

My last push to get it was over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. I did SO MUCH archaeology over those few days that my hands were killing me by the time the mount popped. But it was so very worth it.



Now I need a macro that will randomly pick one of these two whenever I mount up.

I've discovered that I prefer to use a worm on the Skadi fight. I take out most of the mobs at the beginning in one go - misdirect to position them around the worm, and then have it burrow. Leaves just the last group to deal with, then Skadi. Real fast.

I typically have a fuzzy jormunger in my stable, but I recently decided to try out the old-style worm model. His name is Grub. I didn't think I would like him as much as I do, but his face is really kind of cute.

Good luck! I had it drop for other characters in under 5 runs. Kalhoun isn't having the same luck, unfortunately.

Lunchtime Slabhide kill. Guess Stonecore will replace my Sethekk runs now. Brimstone the fire turtle helped.

Wore my Gilneas tabard for rep - very close to exalted.



Since this instance is just normal mode, I suppose I should step up my efforts and do a few runs in a row. Maybe tonight.

Grats on Aeonaxx! I have no patience for camping, so I seriously doubt I will ever see him. I've only ever seen the TLPD dead, flying over his body while busy doing dailies and other things.

I decided to put my Green Proto Drake in there since I hadn't used him on this character in ages. Now that he pops up from my mount macro, I remember just how much I like him. On my old main, during Wrath, I opened eggs weekly for months and months and months trying to get this mount. Kalhoun on the other hand, got the mount on his very first egg (shortly after hitting 80, I think, right before Cata came out).

I like proto drakes, they're so derpy and cute (I have a funny sense of cute). And I do love the color green.




I was looking through my screenshots and found this picture. I think I took it after upgrading my laptop, and so I could finally see all the pretty new effects in game. I stumbled around for hours, staring at everything, exclaiming to my husband once every 10 minutes, "EVERYTHING IS SO PRETTY."



I know that has nothing to do with mounts, but I'm quite the shutter bug in game - I take A LOT of screenshots. So I'll post some here now and then, because I like babbling.

Anyways...

Here's one I found of Kalhoun when he was an orc named Ragabash! This was taken right after hyenas got their new posture. I tamed one and posted it on the old Petopia forums asking for help with a name. Ohhhhh memories.

Yesterday I took another trip to Outlands. Strange to not have to do Sethekk anymore - this time I went to visit the Skyguard Quartermaster to finish off my Riding Ray collection. I did the Skyguard rep grind back in BC while doing those ogre dailies for the potions used in Gruul's Lair, and I only ever bought two colors of rays.

My Drake of the West Wind popped up from my mount macro. I started PVPing just to acquire him - I was never into PVP, and I actually HATED it. But I really wanted the flying electric iguana, and just doing the dailies was taking forever, since at the time I needed gear from them too. My first few trips into the battle for Tol' Barad were pretty embarassing, but I did have some fun... and it helped me get over my fear of PVP. So this mount has special meaning for me.



I'd love to acquire the Drake of the North Wind as well, but I haven't attempted soloing that instance yet. Perhaps after I get my drake from Slabhide it will become a new goal.

So anyways, I bought my Riding Rays. Cycling through them just for ha-has, I noticed the Green one looks pretty nice with my t4. He's now part of my mount macro. You never really see people using Riding Rays.



Zoooooom.



I don't think I'm done with Outlands quite yet. The Netherdrakes are calling to me. I've only ever done that grind once, and I'd like Kalhoun to have one (or all of them).

I also made a trip to Dalaran for the Armored Snowy Gryphon and the Armored Brown Bear. Need to save up for the two mammoths.

Totally forgot to mention... (probably because I'm pretty meh about the Mountain Horses) that I got exalted with Gilneas the other day.

More time in Outlands.



I started the Netherwing rep grind over the weekend. I had begun the quest line back in BC and had gotten almost to Friendly. I went from there to Revered in one day - doing the quests and collecting eggs between running heroics with guildies. I've had a little competition for eggs since then, so getting through Revered is going a bit slower. Just seven spaces to go until Exalted though!

I also spent some Justice Points on the Wooley Mammoth mount.

Finished my Netherwing grind last night. During the evening, between doing other stuff, I was able to find something like 20 eggs. Once I turned them in, I found I only had five eggs to go before I was exalted! It had to wait until after 10 man Dragon Soul with the guild (my first time there ever), and that ran very late. It wasn't until about 2 am that I was able to go back to the Netherwing area and pick up my remaining eggs. I got ready for bed during the loooooooong dragon ride to Shattrath, man I was so tired. But I couldn't leave it unfinished. I get a bit OCD like that.

I can't decide which Netherwing is my favorite, they're all so pretty.

Onyx is nice and nuetral and goes with everything.



Veridian goes with my color theme more, though his orange spikes are a bit weird.



I may have to just ride around on all of them for a while to decide.

And now I am up to 91 mounts! That's crazy! Guess I'm shooting for the 100 mount achievement after all.

So last night I discovered I didn't yet have the Bronze Drake on Kalhoun. Dragged my BFF with me through Heroic Culling of Stratholme and soon remedied the situation.

I'm not a fan of the old school drake models... mostly because those head spines of theirs impale me through the face and body while sitting on one. I do think I'll end up grinding Wyrmrest rep for the red one though, mainly because I like red. I wish we could get a green one - impaling head spikes or no, I would grind for a green drake.



Kalhoun is wearing The Cone of Shame in that pic - was running Kara earlier that night and the Steelspine Faceguard dropped. It looked ridiculous on him, so I transmogged it (because funny always wins) and gave him silly pony tail hair. Spent the rest of the evening looking like I lost a bet or something.

Now up to 96 mounts. Really hoping for a rare drop mount before I hit 100.

Do you have the polar bear mount from the storm peaks daily yet? It can be a pain to get it to drop but that would give you one more. It's also near a skoll and tlpd spawn.
