My first hunter was a draenei and I remembered how I so much wanted to tame the Volatile Mutation because it was actually a bunny :3

Wow...this is a fairly good idea. Goblin project gone wrong? Tentacle coming out of a wolf? I like.

That would be awesome, but sadly really unlikely. Unless they use the ghost ooze as a reason to say 'hell to it!'

I am fond of the flesh beasts, but I think they'd make better mini-pets than hunter pets.

If you have the Ethereal Soul-Trader pet (which unfortunately is an expensive TCG one), you can buy mutagen to turn your minipets into flesh beasts temporarily. They are pretty cool. Kinda disturbing to turn your little Argent squire into a mutant beast. I never did remember to try it on the Children's Week orphans
As for the topic at hand, I don't necessarily object to either. Flesh Beasts are used as pet minions of other races already, after all. But if oozes were converted to become beasts, I think they'd be better as their own family. There's quite a lot of variety for them now, too.

I was thinking the same, another family like silithid and spirit beast, where their members has a huge array types of forms.

I just think that only spirit of koosu turned into a beast while others remain as elemental.
But logical-wow-ly, they can be a single cell monstrousity, a really huge one.

After thinking about this I have to say that I don't think the slime should ever be tamable. It doesn't fit, I still think the shale spiders should have never been tamable either...they're just not beasts.
The white mutations and the chickens I don't mind though. Those would be great additions.

define beast in terms of wow context. In a hyper fantasy world, I don't think it would have the same connotation of how a beast should look like as in real life, even though their definition might be the same. Lore wise the Ooze might be just a single cell beast monstrosity or a slug like creature that has no real life equivalent.
Dragons for example might be considered as beast if such creature exist in the real world, but in wow it is considered as a sentient being, that are beyond the realm of animal kingdom.

Please don't throw the "Its a fantasy world" argument at me. I am basing it off of what beast is/has been for us in the game with taming(basically things that most people would already consider beast). No matter what you say I won't change my mind RE: Ooze being something a hunter should tame.
It just doesn't fit for me.

I'm going to shove 'this is a fantasy world lol' in your throat wether you like it or not.
besides Shale spiders are pet rocks and pet rocks are awesome. I've remembered joking wanting a pet rock in a thread, and my dream came true so pfft to your lack of belief in ooze can be beast too! If Pinnochio can be a boy, then Spirit of Koosu can be a beast too! XD
Noah if you reading this, pwetty please, people will <3 you forever.

Play nice, please, Pop.
As for me, creatures like the slime as a slime and the flesh beasts do not have a distinctly hunterish vibe to them. The shale spiders at least look something like a spider, and move like a crab due to sharing a skeleton. A slime or a flesh beast would make a far more suitable sort of pet for a warlock, a death knight, or a necromancer class, if we had such a thing.
I don't object to those hunters that tamed the ghost slime when it thought it was a croc getting to keep theirs, nor do I bemoan the ones who tamed the ghost hydra or croc getting to keep their pets. Blizzard very obviously decided that those few isolated pet incidents weren't going to break the game like Garwal-worgen as hunter pet might, given what might happen with that pet in a scrum full of worgen PCs.

For me it's mostly a matter of philosophy.
In a purely logical sense, if it acts and thinks like a beast then it could be tamed in the same way as a beast. Clearly flesh beasts are beasts and are even trained for use by some races, such as the ethereals. In this sense I don't see any reason for them not to be tameable and I think it's just a matter of whether Blizzard likes the look and feel of hunters with them. As for slimes... even if they were reclassified as beasts, are they smart enough to be tameable? Or do they just operate on an "eat everything and see what digests" protocol like a maggot? I'm not sure.
As for elemental beasts... shale spiders are beasts with a life force and a body, just more elemental than organic. There's no reason they couldn't be tamed from this perspective. And Blizzard clearly decided they wouldn't disrupt the hunter "look" too much. Clearly this is a case of overlap as there are number of things classified as elementals that are also beasts (fire hawks, hell hounds....), just as there are a number that could also be classified as humanoids. And there are some in between... fire spiders and core hounds look like they probably have both strong organic and elemental components. There are precedents here, but it seems like Blizzard probably doesn't want to take it too far. I doubt there'd ever be too much risk to the "look" of the game as you rarely see tameable elementals compared to regular beasts anyway.
