Can't figure out... what comes "with WoW"?

I could have sworn I saw Blizz advertising that when you bought WoW you got vanilla and the next two expansions included with it.. you only had to buy Cata.

but on the blizz website it only looks like burning crusade is included.

was that a short-term promotion they were having?
or am I just remembering it wrong?

I'm trying to get a friend of mine to play, but he's chronically ill and has limited funds. I'd have bought the game for him. he can afford the monthlies, but buying the game, plus the expansions, it really adds up fast.

at christmas time they run a promotion to allow you to buy the expansions at a much reduced rate, otherwise I believe you have to buy each expansion. Yes it does cost a bit to get the whole set

Aye, I can confirm this as I picked up a free trial account before reactivating my main account to make sure I wanted to play the game again and they merged Vanilla and BC together as the "basic" game. You have to pay for Wrath and Cata separate.

isnt Guild wars cheaper than that? You do need them to progress to its full potential.

What the first one? proberly but heck Vanilla,BC and warith are all less than $20 here. Yes you do but not straight away you don't not like you'll be in Northrend right away.

You can get to 85 within a few days if you grind hard enough. With how fast leveling is, you can get to BC within less than a day.

Guys, no offense, but you're starting to go way off topic. We answered Suku's question and going around in circles about whether or not you need all the expansions up front or not is getting a little pointless. Some people level fast and will benefit from all the expansions up front, other people are slower levels and explorers and will benefit from buying the expansions as they hit the max level for their current expansion.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made Wrath part of the basic game once MoP comes out. Do you think maybe that's what you remember hearing, their future plans?

Blood Elves came with burning Crusade, right?

I KNOW my friend won't want to play a Goblin, so there's really no need for Cata immediately.

And he won't have any level 60+ toons any time soon (I presume!), so needing Lich King to make a DK won't be a rush either.
