This just showed up on Twitter:
Update - People are wondering how newly level 80 characters will be able to do anything with their level 10 or level 20 gear. The answer is probably in the new ilvl 232 uncommon armor sets + weapons introduced a while back on Patch 4.3 PTRs. However, this is pure speculation and we should probably sit tight and wait for the official announcement.

Scroll of Resurrection Revamp - Free lvl 80 Character and more!
The new Scroll of Resurrection revamp seems to be on live servers and includes a free level 80 character and a free character/faction change for the person you're bringing back to the game! We will probably get more information from Blizzard very soon.

We can only assume that the Spectral Gryphon and Spectral Wyvern Mounts teaser from yesterday means people doing the recruiting also get nice perks.

Thanks to Kaeh for his forum post!

I wonder how long you have to be gone for someone to be able to use a scroll on you...a month?

I think its longer then a month i think its a few month before it works or gets counted might as well try it they might change it since it looks like the MoP beta is on its way within the next few months and then people will be coming back for that ....

Some people are worried we will have something similar to death knight's not knowing there class. Having a toon @ lvl 30 compared to lvl 80 vastly different, and even more so depending on when they come back.

I doubt anyone boosted to lv 80 and not knowing there class will be any more noticable then the hoardes of players already at lv 85 who still cannot play their class/spec or are just naturally stupid.

I guess next friday (my payday) I'll rezz my BF's account so I can get the mount. boost one of his toons up and duel-box for a month. maybe I'll get him hooked again...doubt it though...I miss running with him...even if he's a self-cen....eh...nvm, I'll duel box his account for a month then put it back in the dustbin.

Honestly, 80-85 is a pretty lengthy time. Most of us had to completely relearn our classes for those five levels when Cata was released. I'm sure people will get the hang of it within that time, and if they don't they probably wouldn't have been that great even if they had gone through 1-79 themselves. Recruit a Friend can potentially bump people up to 60 with no effort, it's really not that big of a concern.

Not including in MOP we are *all* going to be re-learning our classes to some degree as well. =P heh.

The problem with the whole "Free level 80" phrase is that it's a misnomer. They're not giving you a shiny new character. They're just boosting your old one. It's not so much "OMFG FREE CHARACTER" as it is getting the person up to speed with the new content.

But regardless, I'm divided in my head about this. It seems just a little too exploitable.

You can just create a level 1 character and have that boosted to 80. Almost no restrictions.
