Looking to right the wrongs that I made over a year ago.

So, as many a Hunter, I've released countless pets over my time playing my favourite class. But none have I missed more than my Dishu and Felpaw Wolf. The two who companied Sandfur, my main, from the beginning to level 70. But.. As fate would have it, it seemed that they were not destined to continue their journey with me through Northrend, as I had the oddest idea of releasing them. Bankotsu the Felpaw Wolf was the first to leave, as I released him as soon as I landed in Borean Tundra, replacing him with a Saber Worg with the same name, thinking that hey, he must have gotten over those horrid wounds by now. That didn't last. He was gone in mere days. I retamed him as a Zul'Drak Demon Hound, but.. That didn't have any more success than the last one. And then there was Duma, my sweet little Dishu, who stayed with me from level 13 to 75... When I released him, I retamed him as one of the Saber Cheetahs of Sholozar Basin. ... God how I regret it. It didn't feel right at all. Eventually that one got the boot and was soon replaced with Vixen, my gorgeous Loque'Nahak, who traveled with me through the rest of Northrend, all the way to level 80. Not long after hitting level cap, I tamed one of the Curse Offspring of Har'Koa, naming him Mngwa, making up the story that he was my sweet little Duma, cursed and hit with amnesia. It seemed to work out this time; I adored him. But after an argument with my best friend (Who knew and also had loved Duma dearly) said it still wasn't Duma, and it would never be Duma. After that, I released Mngwa too.
Now, I've tried retaming little Dishu many MANY times, but its never worked out. It's just not my dear little Duma, the sweet little cheetah who protected me through any quest I took on.
Tonight, I've managed to find both Skoll and Gondria for the second time on this character, released my second Skoll to tame Gondria. So now I'm sitting with Vixen the Loque, Voltali the Skoll, Xaviera the Gondria, Banyru the Ghost Hydra and an unamed Gondria. After finding both Skoll and Gondria, I took a chance and headed to Sholozar... My NPCScan went off the second I flew in. Loque'Nahak! It had also happened when I found Gondria tonight. ... Now, you're probably wondering what this has to do with Duma, huh? Well.. One of Loque's spawn points is exactly where I released Duma.. I scanned the whole Basin, my heart pounding, to no avail. I had gotten my hopes up for Loque.. Thinking that if I had found him, I could tame him and name him Duma.. Of course, Lady Luck seems to love to play with my emotions at the moment.
I've also been planning on retaming my Felpaw Wolf, Bankotsu for Cataclysm.. But.. =/
*Sighs* So, I've come here for advice; what shall I do? Try to move on, and try to forget the regret I have for releasing them. Or try to find a way to have them again, without having the feeling that it's not them? I dunno how I'd ever get lucky enough to have it feel right if I retamed them.. But.. I'm just hoping it might happen...

My personal advice?
Make a new hunter, having them tame the same beasts. They can level up with them and hopefully get that feeling to click.

I have considered that but... It just wouldn't feel right to have them again on a different character; they belong with my main. They were practically brothers to her. (Hurrhurr, there I go, refering to my fan-fic and all XD)

You have my sympathy. I did something similar to myself with Timber and the Strider Clutchmother. Timber...ugh, I need therapy for that one. My first pet.

I tried to retame, but it didn't feel right. Timber is Timber and I was foolish enough to let him go. The Strider Clutchmother I retamed once as the "same" bird, which didn't work. The second time, I decided she was a different bird, and it feels fine. Hortensia (the original) is gone back to the wild for good, but I have one of her chicks.

Blizzard's little warning when you are about to release a pet that says "You can never tame the same pet again." or something to that order is true, though.

I don't know what they mean by it, since you can tame and retame the same rare, named beast or beast type over and over till you're blue in the face...since it doesn't seem to be mechanically true, I guess it's emotionally true.
You could try retaming, just to see if it works. Make up some story of why the pet needed to "go home" or whatever. Or tame a "relative" of the original.

I'd recommend retaming them. From your story, it sounds you had a real profound feeling for those two, and it just didn't feel the same when you tamed some other pets in place of them and gave them the same names. A heart's choice is better than going for a pet with awesome looks.

Sheldon takes vacations from time to time. He's on one right now, in fact, in Sholazar Basin. He needed some R&R so he's sitting on the bank of River's Heart, sipping cocktails with Vephriel's tallstrider Kevin. When he's had his fill of fun in the sun, he'll make his way back.
I never permanently release my pets. I just understand that they need a break sometimes, like we all do, before coming back to work. Maybe they just needed to get away from your bossing them around, making them kill stuff for you for so many levels! But, now they miss you, and want to go back to work for you. Duma knows that the first place you'll go is to the Barrens, where you first met and Bankotsu?...he's a tough wolf and couldn't help but get himself in a fight while you were away, so he needs you to come to his rescue again.
Go to your friends, they miss you and it is quite clear you miss them. Just like my old friend Sheldon, they will be right there, waiting for you, ready to go on more adventures and pwn some face!

Oh great Ho-Oh, its like you practically know the two of them! Duma deffinitely knows that he's the reason I adore the Barrens so much. And jeez, that is totally my little Ban-Ban, always getting into fights! But yeah, I probably should go rescue him.. XD
Anyway, I think I've found a way to deal with this. As I mentioned, No matter how many times I retamed little Dishu or a Felpaw Wolf, they were never the same... But, I only ever tamed just one of them at a time! I'm thinking, cause those two goofs were like brothers, it might work out if I tamed them both! Of course, theres the problem of stable slots.. But, I don't really think I need to keep either Gondrias Sandfur has at the moment, seeing as I don't use either of them (As opposed to my alt's Gondria who I use quite a bit) So I suppose I might as well release those two to get my Duma and Ban-Ban back... <3

Do it! Rarity of an animal pales in comparison to what it means to the individual hunter. If Duma and Ban-Ban are really that close to you, then that's more rare and special than a silver dragon around a mob's portrait.

Go get them both, and post some pics when you're done!!!

Well, I'm back. With cheetah at my side! I went to the Barrens, only to find Dishu at the exact same spot I originally tamed him.. Then I mounted up and ran all the way to Felwood, and managed to get a picture on me, Duma and Bankotsu together. ... After a LOT of trial and error by the way. Damn those Felpaw Wolves are tenacious little things! It took me a while to figure out how close I could get to one without being attacked XD But I did get a rather nice one =3

- Oh-so-close to being attacked by the wacky wolf..

It feels absolutely wonderful! I'm so happy to have them back!
Hehe, still trying to take a few more pictures. Just standing here in Felwood, waiting for Ban-Ban to howl.. (HE JUST DID AND I MISSED IT AGAIN ARGGGHHHHHHHHH) so I can /roar at the same time and get a screenshot.. Its taking a long time XD
Also, been thinking of writing a small fic about Sandfur's reunion with these two

Don't you love when you're in the AH and your pet never shuts up; then you're out in some nice area trying to take a screen shot and they just stand there...doing nothing. They only show off when you're not looking. >.>
I'd love to read a story regarding this trio!

I love happy endings!

Exactly! All he does and sniff the ground and scratch himself! XD He's howled three times now, but I've always been a milla-second too slow >.>

Well then, I'll be sure to work on it tonight!
By the way... Just wondering, do you know about the anime/manga Inuyasha? Something (Well, two of your pets' names) tells me you do. I noticed how you said my wolf couldn't help but get himself into fights, which happens to sound a lot like the character from Inuyasha that he's named after! (... What can I say? I'm a fangirl, so I have to name a pet after my favourite character! XD)

@fire screenshot: What a CATapult! Heh.
Also, you killed Humar? That's kind of mean, what with his long spawntime and all.

CATapult! XD
<.< >.> Maybe. But to be honest, I didn't see ANYONE within my whole trip to the Barrens, so I somehow doubt it'll cause too much trouble.

Lol, I love the ones of him in the tree! And yeah, these areas are so..."Barren" (see what I did thar?)...these days that I often kill rares in lowbie zones, too. If I see a hunter around or notice one in /who (which I don't usually think to do), the rare dies. /shrug. Now if it was one in Sholazar or something that's highly sought-after, I'd make sure no one wanted it first.
In fact I just killed Death Flayer a couple days ago, for the heck of it.

Excellent screen shots! Bummer no one was around for Humar.
