This was something I wanted to mention after posting a few pictures of my pet turtles a few minutes ago. Being part of a forums for red-ear sliders, the site admin made this as one of the top most important topics that I just had to look at. The topic displays a link to sign a petition to stop this very cruel event against poor turtles. As soon as I read about what they do, which is so cruel it makes me want to throw up, I immediately went to the new link the admin posted for the 2012 event that will hopefully not happen and signed away. I also just had to make voice to several other petitions against other animal cruelties other than this because I can and will. I can provide the link if you want to contribute.

There is only slightly less than half the signatures needed to make this stop for good.

I went to sign the petition, but it said it's closed. I agree, that's utterly disgusting. x_x Can't they just go get drunk and beat each other up? Why involve poor animals? Ugh.

You tried the 2012 one instead of the 2011? The 2012 one in the second page should still be current.

aren't there animal cruelty laws in whatever barbaric backwater sh**hole this place is?

where I live this would probably mean prison terms for anyone involved.

I had nightmares about this all night after reading this.

BTW, where the fu** are PETA when it's time to deal with REAL animal cruelty?

Or do they only do causes for "cute" animals?

I am in the same boat with you when I first read about this. It sounded like PETA doesn't have all the power to stop this, which is why this is needed. If I could sign multiple times, I would. Anyway, with the way this goes and looking at my pet turtles which I rescued and rehomed instead, I am glad there are people that care, even if it's a small amount compared to the dbags that blame their pathetic lives on poor animals.

Ah, derp! I signed the petition and shared it on my facebook page. Hopefully some people I know will sign it, too.

PETA are useless when it comes to doing real things that are not "boo you eat meat!" or "boo you wear fur!" they are very good at doing that.
