Why Im not in Napa Academy anymore

Enough of you guys have now asked me what happened to me going to Napa Police academy. I never planed on telling because I didn't want people to think I was pulling a "poor me" story. Anyway here is what happened.

Napa academy was a..rather odd academy, in that it was very easy to get kicked out. They compared everything we did to if we were real cops. For example, one of the items we had on our duty belts was a blue toy gun. Now this represented a real gun to us. Well one day after class one of the guys was changing and left his gun belt sitting in his open locker while he walked over and used the toilet. When he came back one of the drill instructors had stolen his gun. The Instructors likened this to a cop loosing his real gun and he was kicked out of the academy. (It is of worthy note that this locker room was for recruits only, so had this been real the only people who were in the locker room would be OTHER COPS)

But I digress, back to my story. When I entered the academy the first day we were told that it was not aganst any rules for 2 recruits to date, it wasn't illegal, just not recommended. Well there turned out to be a few moths later 2 recruits who MAYBIE were dating...we just couldn't tell. Well one day after class a group of students including these 2 recruits and me went out for pizza. Well one of the instructors was there and saw us. This wasn't a problem ..or so i thought. Anyway this took place on a friday night so it was 2 days before we came back and all of the people at the pizza party, except for the 2 maybe dating recruits, were called into the office and told WE WERE KICKED OUT OF THE ACADEMY! Why? Because the female recruit who MIGHT have been dating the guy was MARRIED! I didn't know that! Not to mention had I known I still wouldn't have told anyone cause its none of my buisness. They likened it to what if we knew our partners were taking kickbacks and didn't turn them in. :x Anyway 7 recruits, including the couple were kicked from the academy.

The only good news is because its so easy to get kicked out there's no rule saying I can't re enter the academy this July...I may or may not do so.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I mean no disrespect, but imo, that place sound so farfetched and full of BS I'd tell anyone I could to stay the hell away. Honestly... they are going to kick you out because they 'think" you may know something, that you don't, that they farcically liken to something other wise unsavory in the "real world" that they have just made up.

That place is just soooo.... omg just so messed up.

It's like saying.... OMG, did you just breath in the steam while taking a shower! That's like breathing in gas if you where in field! You'd be dead by now!!! What were you thinking!!!!! That's it we're kicking you out!

I mean really

I understand the gun rule a lot more than that. Getting into the habit of treating a weapon as deadly is important for a cop.

The other shit is bullcrap.

Agreed with this. The gun thing is a bit of a big deal... What if a dirty cop took your gun so it was less likely to trace back to him... (Okay... so I watch a LOT of crime dramas...)

The other stuff.. That's a bit sketchy. Almost sounds like there was a personal vendetta or something. I mean... just because there was a group of people out for pizza doesn't mean it's a conspiracy >.> Which is almost what it seems they're making it out to be.

WTF. Don't get me wrong I have huge respect for cops but... that's just... deranged. Reminds me of "An Officer and a Gentleman".

Sorry to hear what they put you through Red. I'd think long and hard before going back - as it sounds like they have no concept of personal life, personal space, privacy, or basic common sense.

EDIT: the pizza parlor thing I mean. The toy gun I can see where they're coming from - you're on the clock and expected to follow basic safety rules. But the other thing - after hours, just socializing with buddies... that was sheer lunacy.

Okay, I can understand the leaving behind the gun somewhat, but...
That whole pizza party thing?

>Train cops to be just and only go to extremes when necessary, to uphold a state of peace
>Kick recruits out because of a possibility of being an accessory to adultery, with no trial or investigation being held

That sort of... makes the academy seem very VERY hypocritical, but that's just me...

That's insane. I'd honestly start looking for ulterior motives (and corruption) on the part of the administrators. Are they overfilling courses to get more funding then looking for any excuse to boot the overload?

I'd start looking around for a more serious academy somewhere.
