Exciting "yay hunters!" stories from the beta

I have no idea where to post this, so I'm starting a new thread. xD I decided to run a few instances with Ursa as ferocity, just because....well dps bear. The last instance I got into was Temple of the Jade Serpent, which is more of an 85 instance, whereas Ursa and I are 87. Oh well!
Just before the tank pulled the third boss, Liu Flameheart, the healer left the group. The tank lasted for about half the fight, but ran out of cooldowns. I was already hovering over the growl button and right clicked the moment the tank died. Unfortunately, everyone else in the party was dead at that point. For half a second, I hesitated, debating feigning; the boss still had around 800k-1M hp left. But I decided to give it a shot anyway.
Ursa tanked beautifully! His health didn't spike too much until the very end, when he died, but I just heart of the phoenixed him back up and he taunted right back off me. Boom, dead boss. Boom, she dropped a gun!
Soooooo, yeah. I like this.

I had my pet porcupine save the Ook-Ook encounter. Even though the boss was almost completely dead by the time tank died and left me the last one alive, it was still quite a sight to have that tiny guy tank the remaining few percents of the boss fight.

Beautiful!
Now to wait for some irate tank to start screaming "Hunter Pets aren't supposed to tank! They need to be nerfed!"

Hee, not in this group! They were pretty happy that Ursa and I were able to phase her and defeat her.
Another tank in a different group did want me to make sure his growl was off, though. He'd been running into a lot of hunters with growl on.

So as a general reminder, don't forget to turn growl off in instances, guys!

It might be problematic during Stampede...

Quite honestly, I haven't run into anyone that has the "Hunters are fail" mentality, or just an anti-hunter mentality at all, since mid Wrath, before a touch of balancing was done (not much, but some).
I used to get told that our damage output is OP, and we can button mash for top spot, that all hunters are morons, that I was bad for BM, and that my pet had growl on, NO MATTER WHAT, when there was ever a slight aggro issue.
Now? I'm constantly complemented on being top of the meters, I'm asked by interested players about my many beautiful pets, I'm informed by players with a bit of know-how that they appreciate the buffs I bring, I'm thanked for assisting people in PvP, and for distracting Healers, and especially thanked when I put my pet's growl on in Randoms after a tank dies, and my pet finishes off the battle as a tank.
I think that we're doing just fine as a class. People understand and appreciate what we do and bring to the table. We're not OP, we're not sub-par, and we certainly don't have a best-spec, but are rather balanced, I think us Hunters are just about right.

*nods to Gimlion* Agreed! This druid seemed to have just had a bad day with hunters who were still getting used to beta-y things; I didn't feel like he was really talking down to me at all.
And agreed, Andine; stampede needs to lose that aspect of itself. It smells like a copy of AotD in that regard...sorta. (In that it used to taunt bosses.)

I've been having a problem with my growl coming on everytime I dismiss and recall a pet or if it dies and I rez it. Luckily the tank I run with is my bf but I've noticed each time he told me to turn growl off it was with a bit less patience then before

!

I think pets should just not use Growl and Thunderstomp when summoned during Stampede - because having to summon every non-instance pet before the run and manually turn off Growl... not exactly great.
Talking about Stampede - it saved my group once too during Xin encounter. While people were still alive, we were all (including boss) very low on health. I hid behind a pillar, Stampeded the crap out of the smug Mogu and we managed to pull it off. Maybe we'd have just made it without it, but I like to think I actually helped.

Stampeed seems to sound alot like Army of the dead (DK ability), and tanks have learned to deal with the aggro issue on that ability. So, personally I dont see any problem with it (and yes, I play tanks, I just choose not to get riled up over minor details [on abilities], oh, I lost aggro? is it on another player? No..ok, all good then.)

That's actually exactly why I don't think stampede should have taunts in it. We summon fewer pets and for a shorter period of time.
I was saying earlier that someone may have copied the AotD code and not turned that aspect off...or if it really is summoning our pets, I don't want to go through each pet individually before a run either.

It's less about "oh, I stole aggro from the tank" and more about "oh, my pets are DYING instead of doing damage." And it IS a real death. I just figured out that THAT is how Calydonian ended up needing a res, even though he hadn't been my activated pet.

I don't think they'll be up for long enough to sustain any significant damage, let alone die. The duration is rather short, because it makes just so much damage.

But it happened to me. :/ It may be an exception rather than the rule, but it did happen.
