Those crazy things hunters do...

Tonight, I did something kind of silly on WoW. But I did it because it’s exactly the kind of thing that I love to do.

And I kind of think it’s the kind of thing that Blizzard just loves people to do.

Tonight, I took a hike from Darkshore to Howling Fjord (not nearly as bad a run as it used to be) for one purpose. There in Howling Fjord, right beside the first Alliance quest hub of the zone, is a village of Dragonflayer NPCs - and among this village are Daggercap Hawks. They’re between level six and seven, and they’re tameable beasts that look just like a Night Elf druid’s first flight form.

This means that if you’re brave enough, the moment your character turns level 10 (and you’re Alliance because doing this as Horde would be even more painful), you could run up to Howling Fjord and tame yourself a druid-looking bird.

I started at level 13, ended up at level 14, but I got myself a druid bird on my littlest hunter. I named her Sigyn and I’m already utterly in love with her. She’s staying forever.

I love those Daggercaps, congrats on the tame! They're so pretty. <3

Random question time, do they still have the flight glitch where they don't use a normal flying animation? If not, I'm going to have to tame one on my next young hunter.

I'm not sure. I do catch Sigyn "soaring" more often than flying, and she's a lot lower to the ground than most winged pets, I've noticed.

They don't butt drag anymore, if that's what you mean. And yeah, I've done that hike before. Horde side. It's quite the adventure.

I've done this twice, once on Alliance, once on Horde. The Horde attempt was far funnier. I was probably level 20 or so. Stripped off all my gear as soon as I landed in Howling Fjord (except pants... I couldn't run around with no pants!) and went running for the elevator. As I ran for my life another player had just come down the elevator and saw me barreling towards him in only my pants and started laughing and riding around in circles around me. He didn't do anything useful, but I basically had a high level player orbiting my half naked toon all the way to Utgarde Keep (amazingly I survived the run), at which point I jumped into the water and promptly became shark food. :( Rezzed, tamed, and got the heck out of there!
