Head Enchants Removed

We decided that putting head enchants on the various faction vendors wasn't working well with our design intent for the factions. There is a lot of max-level quest content in MoP, much of it focused around the reputation with the new factions. I think it's really cool stuff -- worlds away from the old Argent Dawn scourge stone days.

In previous expansions, the head enchants on the faction vendors served to force players into that content. You couldn't even choose which reputation to pursue -- you had to pursue the one with your specific head enchant. Our design intent for MoP is to give players options in how to play, and the head enchant design wasn't compatible with that.

Once we decided to no longer offer new head enchants, we made the older ones non-functional or else players would feel like they had to go back to older content or be missing out on power. This way, helmets are just no longer enchantable and you'll have one less required step to get a piece of loot ready to wear.

Shoulder enchants can now be provided by scribes, so those still exist, but they are also not part of the faction reputation system.

Woo my scribe will be making some money off these hopefully!

Sad about enchants on head pieces though, I always liked having to grind up those enchants myself since it was rewarding to hit that "revered" mark with a faction. Players were never "forced" into some content too much, since WOTLK you could just throw on the Tabard and run dungeons.

Maybe they had a lot of complainers or something. Oh well.

Honestly, I expect Head Enchants to become the new Scribe-Only thing.

Considering Scribes will now make the shoulder enchants for everyone, only logical thing is to give them head enchants as their bonus, akin to enchanting rings, bracer/gloves socket, etc.

But I am INFINITELY happy no more rep grind for shoulder enchants. Or entire zone worth of quests. >_>

While I'm glad they removed the reputation requirement for shoulder enchants I'm a little annoyed that they gave the ability to scribes rather than Enchanters. This is something that clearly, IMO, belongs under Enchanting. It would seem like a nice nod to Enchanters, something to make up for the DE button in pug groups that we have no control over.

But scribes could already enchant their own shoulders - it was a natural extension. Of course, it didn't make a whole lot of sense that they could do that instead of enchanters in the first place, but eh...

In Cata you have to grind certain factions tho. Which also means hitting friendly with them and not all factions can be found in their non-home zones like Tol'vir or Hyjal. So you are forced into doing at least enough of the content to hit friendly. Its definitely not -hard- but pre-quests drag it out over quite a bit of time (especially therazane with the shoulder enchants that make you do half the zones quests before you can get a tabard) and thus it does force players to enter the content despite their unwillingness :3

Ugh forgot about Therazane. Point mostly withdrawn

Although I did enjoy Sons of Hodir back in the day since it unlocked the chance at the White Polar Bear from Brunnhildar

Perhaps a common ground would be to allow tabard purchases before doing quests for them? The head enchants were BOA at least so if you had 5 toons, you really only had to grind Tol'vir once (which isnt that bad)

I wouldnt have minded the rep enchants as much if they had been at freindly or honored level instead (and BoA from the start!). I dont particularly like the idea of there not being any head enchants. But I suppose thats one less thing for me to have to worry about...

It was already a grey area but enchanting their own shoulders as a profession perk wasn't anything I would have argued against. I'm just surprised that if they were going to turn it into a profit making part of a profession it was given to scribes rather than enchanters. I'm sure it was to make up for the removal of relics and making glyphs reusable. IMO, it was just a lazy way to do it. They should have come up with something unique for scribes rather than muddy the waters by treading inot Enchanters territory.

Apparently, judging from the thread I started on the Blizz forums, I'm some sort of a freak for thinking this way, lol!

Actually, they're more or less taking head enchants out of the equation entirely. Head enchants = gone.

Bolded the relevant part. You said it yourself; those were about the only things scribes had going for them, so they might as well get shoulder enchants expanded....and save the rest of us the horrible horrible grief of grinding rep. ;)

Also, tailors and leatherworkers split the leg enchants; who's to say scribes can't have shoulders? :)

Engineers should be getting head enchants, instead of removing them...

As long as there are a new version of the Mysterious Fortune Card in Panda that offers maybe a 20k card that I can exploit the populace with, I couldn't care less about relics and glyphs :)

Shoulder enchants hopefully will be able to have a good market share as well for scribes, and since it saves from grinding rep, it hopefully will be warmly welcomed.

One thing I noticed, I wonder the % of scribes (who are high enough for the shoulder enchants) in Cata who actually did the Therazane questline in Deepholm? I know my scribe never did because he didn't want to go through that again for the 4th time or whatever it was.

Whenever there is a benefit mentioned to Engineering, I'll always agree. Engineers can never have too many benefits :)

Engineering gets the scopes and the guns and the bows and the fun toys. xP I'm beholden enough to engineers, kthx.
