If gnomes can be hunters, what should their starting pet be?

I;m guessing a goat. I think it fits nicely to Khaz Modan and it would fit gnome's personality!

Something cyber-enhanced, a bit like the mechanical gorilla in Un'goro or the cyborg raptors in Azshara. I'm not saying those two specifically, and I don't mean something that is 100% robot, but something of a similar nature. Maybe a bionic snow fox

Then goblins should get something similar, just saying
I love the idea of a fox though.

Isn't it obvious?
3-headed Mecha-Pterrodax (It's Mecha-King Ghidorah)

In non-critter form. Suits Dun Morogh and the gnomish nature.
I like the point that these creatures only have robotic type armor, so basically picture a snow bunny in a suit that looks kind of like this, but reveals more bunny beneath.
Definitely not opening THAT can of worms...

Given what's near the area, and what's already in use for starter pets for other races...fox. *has a feeling allowing any race to tame mechanicals would wedge open a door that would be difficult to close*

Oh I agree!
My idea was for an organic beast, but with a skin that includes bits of electronic enhancements stuck to it. Much like you see on some of the raptor experiments in Azshara. Not an actual mechanical creature.
My reasoning was that this would probably be the natural initial gnomish approach to taming a beast: add control hardware, a few extra enhancements here and there. Ba-bing!
Plus I was thinking that affinity with your pet is an important part of being a hunter. And gnomes would have the greatest innate affinity with creatures that are part electronic. Not because of their intellect but because they're descended from robots themselves.
So I thought this would be a cool idea for a starting pet

Edited mine to keep it more in line with the conversation, since I absolutely agree.

A bunny inside a power suit!! How awesome would that be?

Gnomes and pets would eventually go wrong... (besides, they'd forget to feed them, well, I guess that isn't a problem anymore).

Armored I could go for--we already have the armored worgs...and hopefully the armored raptors.
Above: Looks like a feasible reaction from any PvP hunter with a new pet!

Sadly the grubs, if they ever become tamable, will be exotic (Worms). However, I'm still holding out for my three-headed, two-tailed cyborg pterrodax that somewhat resembles the Heart of the Aspects.

Maybe we could ad a little bulb at the end of the tail. If not, then we can stick with the giant genetically modified dragonfly that steals the powers of it's enemies.

*WARNING: Image Heavy*
My ideas:
Cyborg-ish Penguin thing (In this case, M.O.G.U.E.R.A)
Or, just a plain old penguin. A generally calm and very tame animal, but can be extremely dangerous (They will peck the eyes out of seals attacking them). Not to mention, but they would do well in the cold climate of Dun Morough.
The three-headed, two tailed cyborg pterrodax thing that resembles the Heart of the Aspects (In this case, Mecha-King Ghidorah)
Sea Otters, just cuz'
*ERROR: Far too cute for brain*
Cold Climate snakes such as the European Viper can be a great addition, seeing as Serpents will be getting a new ability and haven't been used as pets before.
