Has anyone seen Promethius? It looks cool and I really want to go,but I am a big baby

I can't handle scary movies.

It's rated R,but it doesn't look so bad at all on the commercials. Is it really bloody or scary?

There are a few scenes where the squelch factor is a little /shudder, but nothing that once would not expect from the type of movie, how ever they are normally linked to /gross, yet oh that had an interesting side effect O_o
There is one scene however, (BE WARNED) that is very OMG... I can't look (though i did, that sort of thing never bugged me so much) and my friends said they had to turn away. You know it's coming, and you can also choose to do the same and it make make your stomach turn a smidgen.
Bulletdance wrote:or scary?
I didn't find it scary so much. There's no real tense "omgomgomg, watch out it's behinnnddd you!!!!" moments, though there is still suspense, and lot's on creepy, yet cool, visuals and complex things to keep one entertained.
I had heard mixed reviews from different sources, yet still really liked it and have recommended it to friends. If you have ever seen any of the movies that follow (within the series) there are a lot of things for you to link and relate to, and after the movie, even discuss and geek out over.
Oh and yeah, the trailer is kind of tame, looks more like the movie Contact with grit
(though I loved that movie too) yet Ridley Scott still delivers exactly what you would expect from his prior movies from the same series, yet the visuals, costume design, landscape, interiors, etc. I found just amazing.

What about language and nudity? I am very sensitive to those types of things (yes, I know I'm lame, but they make me uncomfortable).

Um no nude people If I remember.

Yeah, no real nudity, a bit of a sexy scene, but from memory ya only see his back and a bit of thigh? (so bad I didn't pay attention, I was all, "yeah yeah, token pg rated sex scene, yada yada, Next!") so that and running around in space underwear for a little?
There may have been a S@#t here or there (but nothing that I remember <.<) for bad language, but certainly no F### bombs or any thing that come to mind.
If those things make you feel uncomfortable however, I think there are probably going to be other things within the movie that will possibly make it not your movie of choice
.

Well really all the alien designs are all very sexual thats what H. R. Giger was going for when he came up with the designs

All the openings to the Space jockey ship look like a certain female body part but if you have seen any of the first Alien movies ya'll all know that :3
There was a f*ck but it was bleeped out

Oddly enough, I can handle violence as long as it's not like...guts and chunks and things like that. Blood isn't a big deal to me, but yeah I don't handle gore very well, either.
Suffice it to say that I should probably just stick with superhero movies and animated movies.

Thanks for all the info. I'll probably go see it, though I too usually stick to superheros and animated films

to anyone interested in seeing Prometheus:
it's a controversial film.
how so?
Primo:
Well, too many people were expecting answers to questions they had regarding the original "Alien" film.
This film is only obliquely a "prequel" to Alien. It's set in the same universe, with some shared characters.
Otherwise, don't expect answers to anything from Alien.
By the way, don't just get up to leave when the screen goes black at the end... there IS a brief scene there.
Secundo:
This film is titled "Prometheus". I'd highly recommend reading up on the myth of Prometheus before seeing the film. The name is not chosen arbitrarily.
Many people are criticizing the film for posing more questions than it answers. But that IS the nature of this film: it poses questions to which there are no ready answers. Besides, the film is intended to have a sequel, so answers very well may come in a subsequent film.
The film is interesting in handling the question of "who made us? why are we here?"
There are a bunch of symbolic events and images in the film. Some related to the Promethean creation myth, others alluding to some indirect link to the Christian mythos.
One minor hint to add to your enjoyment of the film: be aware of peoples' treatment of the character David in the film. It shines a light on part of the central issue of the film.
Oh, and the opening sequence is NOT what you think it is. Ridley Scott has himself said in interviews it might be, or it might not be, a specific place.

This. I haven't seen it, but whenever I talk to someone about seeing it, I have to explain that the film was originally going to be a direct sequel, which is what everyone thinks it is, but that the idea was sort of scrapped after AVP. So instead they made it a movie set in the same universe about the creation and origin of man, not Alien like intended, since that was sort of explained in AVP.

AVP had nothing to do with the creation of Xenomorphs. :S Promethius had more hints on the creation of Xenomorphs than AVP did. There is a painting of one in the big space jockey room and the ending well yeah

AVP just had Predators using them as sport like they always do in the comics.

Well from what I read online, after working on it off and on for 5-10 years or whatever since the last Alien, with AVP and Requiem coming out, they decided to turn away from the story being a direct prequel to Alien, which is what is was originally intended as.

Well yeah it's not a direct prequel at all but it's got hints at things if you watch closely. They did call it a "sidequel" once

I'm thinking about seeing it - the scene with the engineer ship back in A1 was one of my favorites and it was the closest to whatever it was that drew me to the series (as opposed to the segments with the predators, who just seemed a bad fit imo), so I'll be interested to find out more about them.

The word sidequel makes me giggle for reasons I cannot explain.

I have never seen any of the aliens movies since I would likely cry...or hide or hide and cry,but the movie trailer reminds me a lot of an anime I have called Spriggan. I just hope since I know nothing about aliens I won't be confused a lot. I've seen a lot of the set props and stuff used for the other alien movies and that was enough. Scarrrry.

Melissa: you don't really need to have seen Alien to "understand" Prometheus... but a bit of knowledge of the actual Prometheus myth goes a long way. The film is extremely allegorical.
It's... not quite "gory".. but it's most definitely disturbing.
I don't think it's as scary as Alien was. But my impression is also that that wasn't quite what the director wanted.
To be honest, the only thing that not having seen Alien will do is not allow you to catch subtle references to that film here and there, which in no way will subtract from the experience of seeing this one.
And of course, the "famous final scene" won't have quite the same effect on you if you haven't seen Alien.

Awesome I've always loved mythology so that won't be a problem.

In all honesty, rent Alien.
It's worth a watch.
It's one of the most brilliant horror/sci-fi films (actually it's the FIRST real "horror/sci-fi film") ever made.
The whole film still stands the test of time. Watching it, you don't get the impression you're watching something that's over 30 years old. It has aged VERY well.
And besides, the soundtrack is by one of the great gods of film music: Jerry Goldsmith.
