The MoP professions thread.. (wanna make some money?)
The MoP professions thread.. (wanna make some money?)
Major change that effects all the gathering professions - volatiles have been replaced by Spirit of Harmony, which drops from everything, (or motes of Harmony, which can be combined) which has major impact on several professions.
JC - rare patterns are going to come from discovery, so some RNG involved, but profitable if you get lucky and get the good patterns early. Mounts are BOE.
Engineering - major profit nerf with the loss of bonus volatile gathering when combined with herbing or mining. mounts are BOE.
Alchemy - gem transmute patterns are from discovery, same as with JC, so you need to get lucky here to make early money. Major profit nerf with the loss of the volatile transmutes. You can also skip the living steel cooldown by using spirits of harmony.
Mining/Herbing - good profit potential early, especially since bots won't be able to gather as easily.
Inscription - you'll be making everyone's shoulder enchants. solid money there.
End result? If you had 2-3 alchemists, you might want to drop it on one or two of them and pick up something else. There's not an advantage anymore for multiple alchemists. Engineering will be hurting as well if you relied on it for gathering.

Yep, no benefit for engineers at all...swimgremlin wrote:I wish they would bring back the use of Engineer's mote extractor so that those of use without gathering professions on our engineer could still get the elementals from clouds. Guess it's back to farming mobs.
Re: The MoP professions thread.. (wanna make some money?)
Yep, need to locate good zones for that. Hopefully aoe looting will mean more skinnable mobs.Makoes wrote:you forgot Skinner's early on. All those fast spawning mobs getting killed, Skinner's are going to be kept very busy getting mats for those working on first prof achives.

Possibly, but it sure does mess up planning...swimgremlin wrote:I'm sure that'll change. I can't imagine them being soul bound, it's just silly.

One can hope. Some are speculating that they'll be the new Chaos Orb, others think they'll replace the "elemental factor" in recipes (ie. Primal Fire / Eternal Fire / Volatile Fire). At any rate, I hope they don't keep them soul bound. It's going to suck for everyone if you have to grind for these via farming random world mobs instead of dungeon bosses or gathering professions. At least with dungeon bosses and gathering professions, no one is going to disrupt your questing in an area with lots of mobs simply because they need rare crafts mats, at least not as much.swimgremlin wrote:I'm sure that'll change. Well, the motes of them drop reasonably enough from mobs, so farming isn't really the issue. The concern for me is crafters that you don't plan to level. I have a few of those, so they will be locked out to some degree.Sigrah wrote:One can hope. And they are certainly the volatile/primal replacement, which means the nerf to alchemy, since there is no elemental transmute for Panderia.

That, and I'm not sure what benefits Blingtron will bring, but I'm super excited to find out

Maybe the rocket mounts might be able to go for a pretty penny at first? I'm planning on leveling my Scribe / Herbalist character first, mainly so I'll be able to rack in the gold from hopefully new glyphs, new lower level epic darkmoon decks, and hopefully a new fortune card type gimick.

One problem with your theory there... those aren't BoP, so you don't need to be an engineer to have them. (Same with the crafted gloves for gathering bonus).Spiritbinder wrote:http://mop.wowhead.com/item=87213/mist-piercing-gogglesSlickrock wrote: Yep, no benefit for engineers at all...

There's also the very cool trinket with Cogwheel sockets, but again, those are BoE, without an engineering requirement.
The only higher-end items that are engineering only are Blingtron, the blue-quality goggles, and the various tinkers.
That said, engineering is still in better shape than alchemy... alchemy is really getting the shaft this time around. No "volatile" transmute, and very expensive mats for gem transmutes (Golden Lotus) means very low profit potential from alchemy.
One potential profit sector for engineering is selling those trinkets and cogwheels, those might be nicely OP for leveling.
Engineering is still viable, but it is loosing a bit without the gathering bonus. I don't know what I'm gonna do with my 4 alchemists... erk.
Re: The MoP professions thread.. (wanna make some money?)
Alchemy - getting shafted unless they change something (no Alch trinkets yet either), rare transmute patterns from discovery
JC - same as always, very strong (you are going to need to grind rep to make the JC mount however), rare cut patterns based on discovery
Blacksmithing - danger here, they might take away a socket, and you are going to have to grind rep for the belt buckle pattern
Engineering - lost gathering bonus, but still good buffs from tinkers, potential profit from craftables
Mining - strong early profits
Herbing - strong early profits
Skinning - strong early profits
Inscription - big gain here with shoulder enchants, and BOA staffs and offhands. Inscription is a must if you have a flock of alts that use staffs.
Enchanting - same as always, moderate bonuses, great profit potential if market not swamped
Leatherworking - no real change here, moderate bonuses, good profits from leg enchants
Tailoring - - no real change here, moderate bonuses, good profits from leg enchants
So, Alchemy is the only one really getting the shaft. Inscription gets the big boost. JC, Eng, Alch are all going to get slowed down a bit by the discovery-based patterns, but that's not a huge deal.
The only other issue really is the BoP Spirits of Harmony. If that stays, your crafting alts are gonna be hurting..

One problem with your theory there, if they remain that way (which is fine either or imo) I'd imagine that once you make these goggles, one could always sell them.... for a profit?Slickrock wrote: One problem with your theory there... those aren't BoP, so you don't need to be an engineer to have them. Well that's my guess

Goodluck with your 4 alchemists then... erk.Slickrock wrote:Engineering is still viable, but it is loosing a bit without the gathering bonus. I don't know what I'm gonna do with my 4 alchemists... erk.

Point was, they aren't a profession-specific perk, which means, everyone will have them, which means, no real bonus...Spiritbinder wrote:One problem with your theory there, if they remain that way (which is fine either or imo) I'd imagine that once you make these goggles, one could always sell them.... for a profit?Slickrock wrote: One problem with your theory there... those aren't BoP, so you don't need to be an engineer to have them. Yeah, they might sell, have to see how that shapes up.
4 Alchemists, yeah... nothing worth leveling them in something different, so 3 of them are benched. (Made really good profits in the past with the V Life transmute... oh well).
Anything else we can argue about?
